    I have a Best Seller. The bulb is small and so are the flowers, but it amazingly has two flower stalks, and one of them has six blooms! Incredible! Having seen yours, I am looking forward to this bulb growing bigger and producing large flowers.

    After so many years of buying Amaryllis from the big box stores and finding them to be mislabeled with the wrong names, I got half a dozen freebies from a favorite local garden center after Christmas last year. So glad I did! With your encouragement and that of Danielle of Northlawn Flower Farm, I grew mine outside (in pots) and they flourished. I may have waited a little late to put them into dormancy as they were doing so well, which means they will be coming out of dormancy and consequently blooming later but I don’t mind when they bloom just so they bloom. Thank you for the wonderful information on caring for my Amaryllis! 💚

    When the blooms open use gloves or a paper towel and pull the yellow pollen off the stamens. It slides right off and the blooms will last longer. ( do the same for any lily, tiger, Easter, asiatic etc) Be careful, it will STAIN whatever it touches. Lol.

    I decided to buy one last yr at a garden center, it was pricey, but I figured I'd do the same and plant it outside. It never did bloom, I just put it in my back room I use for sowing seeds. Awhile ago I noticed the foliage growing, and it had a "baby". I pulled the dead foliage, and the baby, planted it thinking I didn't really care when it bloomed. And here I go again, 6 big beautiful leaves, no bud showing, it's been about 3 - 4 weeks now. Your new order look whimsical as well as gorgeous.

    Thanks, very timely. I was just noticing that the amaryllis I put in the basement have reached the brown stage. My problem with amaryllis is that the flower heads often become so large and heavy they flop over unless I use all sorts of stakes. I am sure that it will help to give them the sunniest spot I can find so that they don't have to stretch. One reason to do the pebbles and water in a tall glass vase method is that the flower stalk can lean against the side of the vase. Maybe one could add a tad of fertilizer to the water? They certainly do cheer up January!

    I just discovered this video. In September I look my 5 amaryllis bulbs that were growing outside on my deck all summer. I potted them individually and but them in a box in my garage. I left their leaves on and had planned on removing them one by one starting in late November or early December. My plan was to cut off the leaves and start watering. So I didn’t do this right. Next year I will try as you have done.

    The varieties you ordered are gorgeous! I'm wondering what you did with the small offshoots (of which I ended up having one). Do you plant them up now or do you wait and just plant them out in the garden with the larger ones next summer? Also, thanks for letting us know that sometimes they take a year off - it's reassuring to know that we didn't do anything wrong should that happen!

    I’ve always put my pots outside for the summer. I’m curious about planting in the garden. Do they do well if you get a lot of rain? And how much do you water them? I like the idea of the bulbs bulking up. Mine seem to only make off shoots but not get bigger.

    😅thank you for this wonderful demonstration and info. Perfect timing. I now have 5 amaryllis including 1 that was a waxed bulb (thank you pandemic impulse online buying). They are all in dormancy but I had left them in their pots and put all into a couple boxes behind my bedroom door (live in 1 bedroom condo in Washington DC, so not many storage options). I am curious if the waxed one will blossom again. For that one it’s an experiment. It was an inexpensive one from Trader Joe’s. After it bloomed (only a 6 inch stem with flower), as you stated I cut off the stem but in this case I also peeled off the wax, planted bulb in soil in pot and put it on roof deck with the other amaryllis for the spring and summer. It finally grew leaves and roots. Once I eventually bring it out of dormancy in the new year, will see if it actually grows another flower and maybe a little taller than the puny 6 inches. You make me braver in dealing with plants. Because of you, my cyclamen plant is coming out of dormancy now and growing leaves and buds. My coleus cuttings are rooted at my southern window. Yippee. Thank you for your gentle, positive but also realistic attitude in gardening. I have learned much from you.

      Last Christmas, I also bought an inexpensive waxed amaryllis bulb from TJ’s. After blooming, I removed the wax, potted it up, and left it outside in my garden (zone 10). To my surprise, it rebloomed in August, 2 gorgeous stalks.

  • @melepling2742
    @melepling2742 ปีที่แล้ว

    I followed your advice and left my bulb in it’s pot outside over the summer (western Washington state) It bloomed in August! I have since put it into dormancy in it’s pot. Does it need new soil? Do you ever need to feed them? Should I expect a bloom this winter since it bloomed during the summer?
    Thank you. I really appreciate your channel.

    Amaryllis is a term stemming from Greek, not Latin.
    I know so, because I speak the language.
