Denny Island, Portishead, Bristol Channel - Probably the best film of the island on the internet

Kayak day trip to visit Denny Island. Although there are a number of videos on this mysterious island that sits half way between England and Wales, few of these give you a real idea of what this island is really like to visit. We paddled with the rising tide from Clevedon on the English side of the Bristol Channel, reaching the island as the tide was at its highest. We spent some time resting, then filmed our exploration of the island, then paddled back to Clevedon with the falling tide. We hope this provides an interesting insight into the island that many people know well, but few get a chance to visit. WARNING - The Bristol Channel / River Severn is a very dangerous and changeable area of water, it has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world, the conditions can change quickly and it is heavily trafficked by enormous ships, tugs and other craft. When the wind and the tide are moving in opposite directions it can be very wavy and is not safe of inexperienced kayakers. Only attempt this trip with an experienced local guide.

Me and my mate spent 5 days and nights on the Denny about 12 years ago in 70 mph plus winds! We camped under an upturned boat we used to get ashore from a work boat. We claimed the island for Pill and left a flag out there but it’s long gone.
