Seeing Toxic Holocaust and Hellripper lately, I was stoked for a new Midnight record. But honestly, it should have been an EP not a full-length. I 100% agree that its trimmed too much and extra 5 minutes of songwriting wouldn't hurt anybody. The record still spanks though!
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, I don't why this one was so damn short. It's still solid but some of these songs could have definitely used a bit more time to let the riffs sink in. Maybe this was the last one on his contract with Metal Blade and he just wanted to get it done.
Necrotic Nick- Athenar loves both of those bands. He's got some videos up on TH-cam of him going through his record collection and he's got a ton of classic stuff.
The album is reallly good but left you wanting more, nevertheless i still ordered the vinyl, 25 min shot of relentless metal is still good for my health
This new Midnight album is really good and I think a step up from Let There Be Witchery which was a good album as well. These guys alongside Hellripper and Toxic Holocaust are some of the best bands in the 21st century when it comes to that blackened speed/thrash metal style. Although, this album is short Athenar seems to take lots of influence from Venom and Motorhead.
Necrotic Nick- I really dig this one but I feel like his trimmed it up a bit too much. I liked that the last 2 would have a bit more to them in terms of playing with the riffs or leads. This one kinda leaves a lot on the table that I think would have made the songs stick more. It's not a bad album by any means but I feel like he's nailed this same style with a lot more energy and flash before.
It’s a fun sounding album but doesn’t really do much for me. I feel like it’s the energetic music I’ve heard 100 times. Seems like a lot of people are really digging it though so props to them
Necrotic Nick- It's definitely very derivative but it's very transparent about it. This band is almost an homage to it's influences. I think they've done it better in the past but this one is still good.
I could definitively see this band being a really good live act but the album didn't do a whole lot for me sadly but it's super energetic so it probably works really well live.
Necrotic Nick- Live is always the way I'll recommend listening to this band. Their live shows are a blast. I really dig all their albums but this one felt like it was too short and it really only scratched the surface of their sound overall.
Sorry guys, bored as fuck..same simply riffs for all the album and no hooks..for me hellripper or toxic holocaust for example are top notch but midnight isn't
Necrotic Nick- I love this band for the raw, fun simplicity of their sound. They/ he knows how to write solid, old school bangers but this feels way too stripped down even for Midnight. The last 2 definitely had more to them overall though. It was still enjoyable but I feel like a lot may have been left on the table here.
Yeah Nick, I totally agree with you, I also like THAT simple way of playing that midnight had in previous album but THIS is too much..and i'm not a great fan of technical music, except some bands..2/3 songs good but in the end nothing left an impression on me 🤷🏻♂️..so my thoughts are that bands like Hellripper are the evolution of this genre and midnight were left behind with album like this without progression and solid songs
I think you are very often too critical, even the new priest record didn‘t get a 5 out of 5 from you guys. What does a band/record need to have to get the highest rating? It‘s like you never ever give a 5 out of 5
Maybe you’re not critical enough? The new Judas Priest is hella good, but it’s not a perfect album. A 5/5 (or perfect score) should be reserved for albums that are executed perfectly, but also, really push the boundaries of the genre. If you start dishing out more and more perfect scores, then you’re just diluting the importance of a perfect score.
Necrotic Nick- I mean, a 5 star record does imply perfection and that's tough to pull off. Even while this is all subjective a perfect album is rare. It really has to click on every level for me but again that's just me. I'm not the arbiter of taste. I like what I like but but if people like something more than I did that's awesome.
@@thrallsofmetal yeah sure, I can get your point of view. Although I'm more likely to rate records on the highest standard when I'm very satisfied with what I got. But as you said it's just very subjective, so no offense
Dude midnight hell yeah!!! ...however I hope this doesn't become a buuuuuh !! Moment aye they are sick I got into them and went to see midnight kreator and king diamond ...midnight came on first I must say pound for pound they were the best that night kreator was off on of stuff and king diamonds bass was so loud it made my clothes vibrate and everything was muffled thus gonna have to check this out aye 🤘🏼⭐⭐⭐👉🏼💯
Necrotic Nick- I dug it overall but man, this thing is short and even more bare bones than previous ones. Athenar's always been a minimalist with his style but he makes that shit work and live is always the setting for this band. They fucking kill it live. I missed that tour but I heard from everyone I know that went that Midnight killed it and I have no reason to doubt that.
It's probably my favorite since Satanic Royalty. It Smokes!
Necrotic Nick- I definitely like the last 2 more but this one is still good.
This album rips. It’s so fun. Breaking stuff.
Necrotic Nick- If anything, Midnight will always be fun as hell.
I 100% agree with you guys! Great review. I can’t wait for the new Attic album.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man!
@@thrallsofmetal Attic really remind me of Mercyful Fate, which I guess is totally intentional.

Jammed this band for the first time today, and I really enjoyed it. Like old school Venom mixed with Motorhead, love it

it's such a shame I've never seen them live. it's a modern Venom and I need to see them with Hellripper and Toxic Holocaust.
Necrotic Nick- If you get the chance then 100% go and see them live. Midnight is pretty much the musical equivalent of a Satanic kegger live.
Never really heard of this band, but ill check them out👍👍
Necrotic Nick- If you love Motorhead, Venom and sleezy punk you should dig it.

Damn Ive been kinda looking for a band like this reminds me a bit of venom I like it.
Necrotic Nick- Check out their entire back catalog. If you love Venom you'll probably love it all.
Midlite? I enjoyed it whipping past , bit like the new/old municipal waste release
Necrotic Nick- It's a fun, riffy album but I feel like there could have been a bit more here.

This and the latest from Judas Priest are my albums of the year
Necrotic Nick- Lots of year left to go though.
Midnight New album. I must check this Soon.Satanic Royalty and Let there be Witchery i got on vinyl. 4 Pentagram easily i think.
Necrotic Nick- I love all their albums but this one might have been too stripped down which is saying something for Midnight.

Saw them in 2022 with Kreator and Mercyful Fate. They were fun, but Kreator and Fate were on another level. Fun opening band I guess...
