    this band is such a breath of fresh air in the predictable pool of modern death metal. I'm not a declared fan yet but I appreciate the hell out of inovative projects like this.

      Necrotic Nick- Honestly, I'd barely call this death metal at this point so they're not even swimming in the same pool so to speak. I like it but I do think it gets a bit too self indulgent for its own good at times.

    I grew up listening to 70s hard rock/prog rock and obsessed with Brutality (especially Screams of Anguish) and Sepultura's Arise and Opeth's Ghost Reveries in my opinion is one of the best death metal albums out there. So, yes, this album is perfect for me.

    My preorder arrived last week and I’ve listened several times. I love hearing bands push boundaries like this - especially getting to witness it in real time.

      Necrotic Nick- I'm still going to order this one but this was pretty far removed from all of the stuff I loved about the debut. Still, I think they do the 70's prog rock thing pretty well here even if I do think they get lost in the sauce occasionally. Really bold move for them to change their sound so drastically over the course of 2 albums.

    Might have to rearrange my Top 10. Damn this was unexpectedly really good. 9/10

      Necrotic Nick- This album is as bonkers as it is ambitious as hell. I dig it but I do think it gets too self indulgent at points and kinda loses the script so to speak.

    As a fan who loved the debut from 2020, I also love this new album! I think it’s one of the most explorative metal albums of the year.

      Necrotic Nick- I love the debut and while I appreciate this one for being insanely adventurous and taking a serious gamble with their sound it doesn't always gel for me. The 70's prog elements are well executed (especially the synth work) but I do feel it's a bit too self indulgent at times. I more curious about what they'll do on the next one especially if they hold this course and refine this sound a bit more.

    Yeah, I was teetering too on exactly how much I enjoyed this album, and I settled on "a good amount" because I started to connect more of the dots of the instrumental narrative as I listened more. It's still a lot to take in, it's still all ear candy, and the vocals posed the biggest issue for me because they feel darn near hidden in the mix whereas everything else feels like a highlight. I'll definitely be revisiting this one a lot, and I can't wait to see where the prog rabbit hole leads Bedsore!

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Necrotic Nick- I still liked it but even after multiple listens I still would gravitate more towards the sound on the debut rather than this. While there's a lot of killer musicianship on here it's a lot to take it and it has this wandering nature to it which makes it even more difficult to grasp at times. I think the vocals need to become more dynamic to match the music. With what they're doing here I kinda prefer them in the back of the mix because the ghastly screams only really work with the heavier material. I still dig this but I'm more curious about what they do next now and if they'll refine this sound a bit more.

    A very detailed & in-depth review. Bedsore's Dreaming the Strife for Love definitely sounds strange and over the top. But also, I admire the band's ambition to standout and be creative sound wise.

      Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! It's a wild listen. I'd say it almost runs like a metal version of King Crimson's Starless.

    So, I liked Hypnogogic Hallucinations quite a bit, but in hindsight that album was a little clumsy in places. This is a band finding their sound, and going full steam ahead. Excellent work from these boys 4/5

      @thrallsofmetal  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Necrotic Nick- I legit still love that album. I can see what you're saying about it maybe sounding a bit clunky at times but for that gave it more a live vibe. This one, while I like it, I feel like it's a bit too much at times where it gets lost in the ether and wanders off. The musicianship is excellent but sometimes the songwriting doesn't entirely land for me. Overall though, this is pretty solid and damn ambitious for a second album.

    This is a great album, but I still prefer the first full length. What I liked the most in the first one was that the progressive elements were used to create a few interesting contrasts. But the new album the progressive elements are found more often.....still, it is a great album.

      Necrotic Nick- I like this but I do prefer the debut to this one. This is wildly ambitious and really shows off how talented they are but at times it feels like it's a bit much and maybe get's a bit lost in all the crazy transitions and movements. I still dig it but I'm more curious about whether or not that stay the course with this sound on the next one and continue to refine it.

    This is very metal. More metal than most metal tbh ahaha if you feel me. Its like prog worship like Opeth meets Horrendous meets Morbus Chron, but with crazier structures and feats. 4

    I've never listened to Bedsore before but I checked out the album and loved it. Definitely not a 5/5 like Blayne over at BangerTV gave it but probably one of my favorite releases this year.

      Necrotic Nick- Man, he went with a full 5/5? That's pretty lofty for me but I still thought this was pretty damn good. I don't think it'll be on my year end list though.

      Necrotic Nick- Yeah, I really wasn't expecting a King Crimson style journey into madness with this band but they did a pretty solid job with it.

    Opeth is safer! This had good bits but there’s too many pauses and those more interesting parts would start but not go on long enough. It’s a frustrating listen. I agree not enough vocals. Frank Zappa is also better: Over-nite Sensation, Hot Rats and The Grand Wazzoo are great

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Necrotic Nick- I'd agree to that. They still want there to be melodic hooks, chorus refrains and some more contemporary songwriting in the mix but this is more wild and experimental which is both awesome and can be a bit too over reaching. Unless they introduce some more vocal dynamics to their sound I'm cool with there not being a ton of vocals on here.

    I have the same problem with this album, that I somewhat had with the new Blood Incantation release; while there are lots of awesome, clever and memorable passages throughout, the way the band strings them together compositionally, seem a little 'clonky' at times. 🤷
    ..and I furthermore wish, they would have completely ditched the harsh vocals for this one, and gone with all cleans; these black metal shreaks simply don't fit the music in my opinion.. 🤔

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Necrotic Nick- For me Blood Incantation gelled better. The transitions weren't at jagged and the songs flowed better. They also had more of a slow evolution to what the did on Absolute Elsewhere with the other albums slowly becoming more progressive over time. This is an abrupt shift that is so unlike what they did on the debut that it's really kinda jarring. The musicianship is excellent but it's really all over the place in terms of the songwriting. I'm kinda with you on the vocals though. I think cleaner vocals should have been worked in somehow to compliment the melodies and then just save the harsh vocals for the parts where they would fit. The harsh vocals don't work as a uniform delivery for me on this. Overall though, I thought it was pretty good even if it was a bit much at times.

      Necrotic Nick- Yeah, it's a lot to take in. Even with my love of 70's prog this was a challenging but pretty fun listen. You know, who knows it might click more after a few listens.
