Plaster cloth for scenery. What if you add paint?

  • Lots of us use plaster cloth on our layouts as a base for starting our scenery projects. Then we get the paint brush out and paint it green. Brown or black.
But what if you add paint to the water? Will this eliminate the step of painting a base coat?
Let’s see what happens when you add paint to the water.

I've added color to both plaster cloth (through the water) and sculptamold (home-made, of course) - definitely a step-saver. Looks great Sparky!

I’ve seen your scenery and thought you had a green thumb but now it’s green hands, gloves come to mind. Great idea and it looks like it worked well. Thanks Sparky.

I've never worked with plaster cloth before, but it looks like it gave you a good base coat. Looking forward to the next step.

Acrylic paint is a great use for water soluble projects. It looks like it worked really well. More of a tint than a solid color, but at least you won’t have the unsightly white show through if it chips. Great idea Sparky! Thank you for posting.

I like what you did there Sparky! Basically one thing to keep in mind: you want that mixture to be very similar to a wash. I'd say 90% water, 10% pigment. Never done either, but I would think that would be a good starting point.

Very awesome Sparky not only is a awesome shortcut but it is way easier to do your method than doing it with plaster then paint it I’m thinking of doing A similar idea based off of your video by using drywall and paint to mix it together to put on my soda can mountain also I’m gonna to ask you something on messenger and I hope you have an awesome day Sparky

Will it work with brown paint to simulate dirt, or does it only work with green paint?
Edit: You stated it would work with other colors of paint near the end of the video, but will you test every color for us?

The Good: This is an awesome looking time saver and probably also saves paint considering you only mix a bit in the water.
The (not bad, but just Ugh): I literally found this video the morning after I already laid some plaster cloth 😂😂
