Hey guys! This episode of GBNF was made from suggestions from fans who emailed us demanding this show be covered on this series. If you want to make suggestions for future episodes of GBNF then e-mail GBNFSeries@gmail.com and maybe we’ll cover your show
The series is 32 years old and still a better adaptation than all the movies combined. It did Phoenix Saga, Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse so much better.
I would agree aside from Logan, but that’s kind of its own thing. Can’t believe how they butchered the wolverine sabre tooth relationship in the first one.
@@justaguy7230well, at the time of the series, they had only been enemies (in the comics) for almost 10 yrs storywise, and Logan's past was still unknown then. Sabretooth in the comic books, was introduced originally as a Capt America villain, and a mercenary with the Serpent Society (he was paired with Rattler), Logan's first encounter with him, was Uncanny X-Men (vol 1) #210, during the Morlock tunnels story arc, and next issue #211, was titled on the cover "Wolverine vs Sabertooth Rd 1!" Then in 2002 there was the Origin comic mini series, which finally gave us the loooooong awaited history of "Logan"/Wolverine and his relationship with Victor Creed/Sabretooth (in the first X-Men movie Sabertooth was played by former wrestler, Tyler Mane, in X-Men Origin Wolverine, he was played better by Liev Schriber!), and it was well covered in that comic series! The movies also showed the connections to Wade Wilson/Deadpool, and Col Stryker (a taller version of him though, whereas in X-Men 2, he was a short older man & DOFP, a younger man!) they had different actors for Stryker in each movie. It was great for Marvel that they created this rivaly, but they haven't been doing anything with either character lately. 🤷
To be fair, the movies (generally) weren't terrible. It's just that these longer storylines like the whole Phoenix Saga don't work in film. It and the Dark Phoenix worked in the cartoon and comics because they had time to slowburn it. Even to do the Phoenix in one movie and the Dark Phoenix in another would be too quick to do the story justice.
It would work in film, you just have to do it correctly. Have a film that focuses on the Shiar (Dken and his struggle with Lilandra) and the Star Jammers. That movie ends with Jean piloting the shuttle back into earth) Then have a sequel that focuses on the development of relationship between the Xmen and the Star Jammers with the B plot of Jean regaining consciousness and starting to use her new powers. That movie ends with the understanding of the Phoenix and her need to protect the Mkraan. Movie 3, conclusion with explosions and fire and awesomeness. Marvel made 10 years of avengers movie with this exact format. not too hard @@ScooterinAB

There are some super hero themes that just capture the character and can never be improved. John Williams Superman theme, Elfmans Batman and the X-Men cartoon are the Mount Rushmore of those
If Margaret Loesch hadn't had such great vision for X-Men we'd have never gotten this gem of a show, and subsequently maybe not the live action films either. Thank you, Margaret!
I remember always looking forward to waking up every Saturday morning to watch X-Men. Hearing the theme song got me hyped. On a side note, special shout to Margaret Loesch for taking a chance and putting her job on the line to bring us the X-Men cartoon!
I love the X-Men animated series. I had a huge crush on Rogue and Jean Grey. Days of Future Past and the Morlocks for my favorite story lines. I even have the comic book adaptations of the episodes.
Good stuff Joblo. Just one thing add on I'll like to add about Allison Sealy-Smith. She's is Barbadian born Canadian actress. We claim her over here. :)
Mutants aren't given any control or choice, and sometimes aren't able to shut-off their powers. The public LIKES Iron Man because women want to screw him, men want to BE him or be FRIENDS with him, and he has control over his powerful machinery. A mutant might be a hispanic-asian queer teen who's mutant ability is to detonate their body with the power of 2 tons of dynamite. This is why the public FEARS most mutants and "ugly" powered humans while liking the muscular and big-boobed attractive ones. Everyone finds Phoenix hot until you learn she's a schizo with PTSD, personality disorders, hallucinations, and her boyfriend is an enabler willing to sacrifice a planet just to kiss her.
Thank you very Jo Bo Company, yall brought back the blast from the past of xmen the animated series! Yes indeed 32 years a very very long time as well!😂
I think the reason the cartoon psychops is so good because he wasn't very whiny and even with the relationship issues of wolverine and gene and never came across as petty. I guess he was honestly hurt where as in the movies he seemed a bit more whiny about it I guess
I've seen in many videos people saying that Jubilee was the character that children most identified. But I just don't gent it, cause for me she was the most annoying character in the show, and everyday I just wished she wouldn't appear in the episode of the day.
I used to love this series, this & Spiderman but going back to re watch them I kinda laughed a lot. They mostly just grumble & wrestle each other a lot

Reminds me of Winston in the Real Ghostbusters where he went from Arsenio Hall to Buster Jones. Both did a great job and kept the character w the same personality.
I had no idea either. Similarly, when I heard Cyclops in the new show's promo, I thought they had gotten the entire original cast back, not knowing that the original actor had died. It's impressive what attention to detail can do, even if his performance turns out to be a little off.
"X-Men the animated series" is one of the best depictions of the X-men Ever. The story of mutants and how they struggle to fit in with humans is such a universally relatable subject. Especially in the mature & gritty way that they show it in the 90's animated series. Media back then wasn't afraid to touch on difficult situations. They found intelligent ways to tell their stories. Even when I watched it all grown up it really felt so well crafted. It's stuff like that that we are so deeply lacking nowadays. So much so that literal kid's cartoons from the 90's told deeper and more mature stories than most media nowadays. IMO none of these live action movies even come close to Animation. It's crazy how good things were in 90's-00's and now animation is rarely ever seen anymore... It's annoying how dedicated voice acting as a profession is pretty much gone, as well as 2D animation studios.. Something's are just so much better if done in the form of animation.. Live action just isn't capable of competing or pulling off what animation can do but apparently Live Action is the only form of media that Hollywood or TV shows use nowadays..
4:45 Honestly, I wish Stan got his way. How cool would it have been if we got an adaptation of the X-Men from the beginning that told the full story closer to the same pace of the comics. The big story lines that they tried to adapt wouldn't have seemed so rushed and would have had more time to breathe. That was the biggest problem I had with the X-Men animated series, despite the fact that it's closest book to screen adaptation of the X-Men we've ever gotten.
The X-Men animated series was fantastic with some many moments and did the comics did justice, I became obsessed with Apocalypse and Graydon Creed as villains and Wolverine is my favourite character and had some many great 1 liners such as “with a mouth like yours, we should have just sneaked in with a marching band” “these guys have taken dancing lessons” “I go where I wanna go”.

As mentioned the strength of that show is that they were almost direct adaptations of the storylines from the post 91 X-Men comics so half of the work was pretty much done for them. I hope they take the same approach with the new show because there was a lot of iconic stories after the original show stopped. But I don't trust Disney to bring in people who would even care that much...they'll probably make up some original script.
I’m old. Huge fan of the series back in the day. I find it hilarious that the actor who played wolverine was Canadian, because wolverine was Canadian, but he didn’t sound Canadian. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Still an iconic series all around.

Also along with the many talented people to do voices, Don Francks did sabertooth, he himself did many voices throughout his career including Dr. Claw from inspector gadget. Plus he was the father of Cree Summer, she herself has gone on to have mega career in voice acting.
did some reading the comic...did the collecting the movies...saw the animated series...and I always wondered why Wolverine was so watered down...found out that because of smaller kids..content had to be friendly. but now that "97" is coming out am hoping that THIS time Wolverine can get down to business...if this was on HBO like Spawn was we'd get EXACTLY what we'd want.
Ah, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Back in the day when you could build an entire wall of computers out of exploding rocks and Aunt May never noticed the NORAD facility hiding in her apartment.
They did apocalypse so well in the cartoon I actually like him. I legitimately can't stand him in the comic books lol. Especially after that comic wide Age Of Apocalypse storyline lol. That mans voice was amazing. I love all their voice work. Great show.
People always praise Batman the animated series as far as best superhero cartoon of the 90s, and while I loved that cartoon X-Men the animated series was my favorite and still is. The new X-men 97 has been great!
According to Bob Harrass editor in chief of Marvel at the time he credits that storyline with the cartoon “One Man's Worth" two-parter is an original story, greenlit and designed for the TV series in January, 1994. In a reversal of the usual book-to-TV origin, this story became the basis and inspiration for the crossover series of books Age of Apocalypse, which was published in 1995-96. Many character designs in the Age of Apocalypse, most prominently that of the alternate Forge, were first created for the TV series. Because of the length of time it takes to animate an ambitious episode (sometimes a full year), these two creations are often placed in the wrong order. Bob Harras, supervisor of the X-books in the mid-90s and advisor to the TV series, had access to the full "One Man's Worth" story and designs by early May, 1994. The Age of Apocalypse books followed eight months later.”
If Marvel hadn't been in such terrible financial shape, they could have created an animated universe that rivaled DC's animated universe. In fact, they had more than one opportunity. The first time was with X-Men: TAS, Spider-Man: TAS, Incredible Hulk, Fantasic Four, Iron Man, and Silver Surfer in the 90's. Then they had a chance with X-Men: Evolution. The creators of that show wanted to do more and expand beyond that show. Then they had a chance with Wolverine and the X-Men and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
As both a person of color and a lesbian that didnt know i was one atm time i really gravitated to the interactions between rogue and storm. They both often took leadership roles often and were badass chara for girls too see in a cartoon.
The actor who played Professor X being married to the actor who played Jean... mmmm... that's uncomfortable, given what we know about Professor X. Also, I love that Rogue's actor was a federal MP.

I can't wait for 97
Whoa where did the end credits animation come from?? Never seen it!
Japanese intro for the show
@@Arroyo2099 oh cool! Thanks!
21:17 little we did know someone would randomly screenshot this decades later and start a meme. Also, Shout out rogue… damn girl.
Gambit was in The Wolverine but yeah sooner we forget about that the better.
Love the Wolverine anime series more 😊
Watch X men and Wolverine it is good.
Chris Potter is awesome. I absolutely loved Kung Fu the legend continues
The original series was 🔥🔥
Lenore is right, that’s rogues voice when I see her in comics.
As both a person of color and a lesbian that didnt know i was one atm time i really gravitated to the interactions between rogue and storm. They both often took leadership roles often and were badass chara for girls too see in a cartoon.
I hope that they redo the 90s Spider-Man series next
You should do a video on the 90's Weird Science TV show. It's really good, and I think I like it better than the movie.
I was so pissed that Colossus was only in one episode
He was in two episodes - "The Unstoppable Juggernaut" and "Red Dawn".
The actor who played Professor X being married to the actor who played Jean... mmmm... that's uncomfortable, given what we know about Professor X.
Also, I love that Rogue's actor was a federal MP.
