I can see why you like chickens. My parents had about 140. That's 80 laying hens and 60 pullets. As we found out, us not knowing but we soon did, there were about 20 Cockerells in there! Which ended up with a date with the freezer! They seem to have a personality and you can loose hrs watching them!
Of all the mainstream poultry don't see much turkey amongst expats in Portugal, always wondered why !? Joseph, I want to let you know that at times your music breaks run at higher levels which can be a bit annoying when watching on speakers at night xD
We have Turkeys and so does Joseph - in fact without his amazing skills we wouldn't have been able to eat our own Turkeys for my birthday bash - I always have to pinch myself to remember how old Joseph is and how much he knows - we do keep them but just didn't show it as we were too busy enjoying Luke's delicious menu.

Hello Joseph Can a farm with 1000 cherry trees and 500 plum trees, all producing average yield, sufficient to make livelihood and that too in Portugal's cherry bowl, Fundao District
Hello there my dear friend, the short answer is yes! The long answer requires more questions I am afraid. But simply I will breakdown here: 1 hectare of cherry is roughly 250 / 300 trees at a 3m spacing (doing this in my head so allow a margin for error here)... 1 hectare will yield gross profit of 10,000 euro, so you would be looking at around maybe 30,000 / 50,000 euro depending on the year for the cherries. Of course there are expenses to come out of this and those namely would be orchard maintenance and fuel / man power (grass cutting, spraying if using treatments, pruning, harvesting etc). It is definitely possible to maintain all those trees yourself maybe with another guy to help, would be a lot easier. But of course a lot of bigger farmers hire in quite a few hands for maintenance. Picking costs would be your biggest expense on that kind of project, picking would come in at a few thousand a year, but would definitely be lucrative! Hello Karen! Predominantly sheep are milked for cheese (some common sheep cheese is Roquefort, a lovely soft, strong green sheep cheese!) I will definitely be filming that, I cannot make any cheese for a year unfortunately though as my vet gave my sheep a wormer just a couple of weeks ago (legally obliged) and I can’t milk them for a year… But as soon as I can I certainly will my friend! 200 chickens is quite a lot. Added to that there are the ducks and geese. Quite a responsibility to keep all this going. The prices are quite reasonable considering that the birds are bio quality. I'd even pay a little more if I was buying from you.
Hello there, thank you for the interesting comment! Meat breeds give about 2kg / 2.5kg on average, clean carcass. So one bird will probably do more than one meal a week, some breeds give less meat of course too. I work out that about fifty meat chickens serves my family for the whole year. @@Farmerforfun Thanks I think I will get set up as soon as I get there after Christmass 10 birds should do it. If you are in the area I will buy them off you, my house is in Grocinas. The feed costs are peanuts compared buying from shops. I am planning to use them as a chicken tractor to clear my land. My situation is basically a photocopy of Jasper exept I am outside the village and I don't have as much garden. What is very noticeable about your land is its very, very green the fungi are a big sign of healthy land. Its the organic system I am intending to add biochar pre composted. Maybe you would give it a try put some down in the shape of a heart and see if the grass grows better.
Because I only have small incubators and specialise in heritage breeds which are not available here (I imported the original stock) I can charge a little more… Generally speaking small farms charge a little more because they are not doing things on mass scale. Thank you 😊 💕

200 chickens is quite a lot. Added to that there are the ducks and geese. Quite a responsibility to keep all this going. The prices are quite reasonable considering that the birds are bio quality. I'd even pay a little more if I was buying from you.

Forgetting about feeding anyone else how many chickens would you need per person say eating 1 chicken per week?
Hello there, thank you for the interesting comment! Meat breeds give about 2kg / 2.5kg on average, clean carcass. So one bird will probably do more than one meal a week, some breeds give less meat of course too.
I work out that about fifty meat chickens serves my family for the whole year. Hope that helps my friend.

@@Farmerforfun Thanks I think I will get set up as soon as I get there after Christmass 10 birds should do it. If you are in the area I will buy them off you, my house is in Grocinas. The feed costs are peanuts compared buying from shops. I am planning to use them as a chicken tractor to clear my land. My situation is basically a photocopy of Jasper exept I am outside the village and I don't have as much garden. What is very noticeable about your land is its very, very green the fungi are a big sign of healthy land. Its the organic system I am intending to add biochar pre composted. Maybe you would give it a try put some down in the shape of a heart and see if the grass grows better.

Because I only have small incubators and specialise in heritage breeds which are not available here (I imported the original stock) I can charge a little more… Generally speaking small farms charge a little more because they are not doing things on mass scale. Thank you 😊 💕
