@@chinhoewong like you literally have nigh PERFECT source material and you choose to change it… for what?!! The poor excuse they had this whole time was “don’t expect it to be 1:1.” But the quality and depth of One Piece is so good that it could’ve been adapted 1:1, and tbh SHOULD’VE been recreated damn near 1:1. One Piece isn’t about vanity and silly superficial jokes, it’s an amazingly woven story with emotional depth, characters that feel REAL, and deep life lessons. Imo this live action it came off feeling like an unserious little kid show combined with a corny “Once Upon a Time” show esque quality. Disappointing to say the least given how much money they had to work with, how much they’ve been hyping it up, and most importantly, how good the source material for One Piece is. But the shills are eating it up anyway.

      @J_Jayyyy ปีที่แล้ว

@@chinhoewong however I didn’t hate it completely. The show gave me some moments where I was smiling ear to ear and couldn’t stop laughing because they did capture the essence of one piece with some scenes like with Buggy and Luffy in certain aspects. I just wish they would’ve stayed closer to the source because it would’ve made for a much more epic, riveting, and complex sorry to get into… especially for new fans. They didn’t really capture the truly fantastical and endearing world that Oda created. But there are people that like it and will hopefully start watching the anime and manga so I shouldn’t worry too much

Hi guys. Dude who watched the whole show already. I'll give y'all a mini review here and try to keep it as brief as possible without writing too much. Let's get started.
The casting, to put it bluntly, is perfect. Their acting skills are also up to par.
The writing was acceptable but most of my complaints (if you can even call them significant) lie in this category. I am okay with some of the plot changes but mostly just inserting specific characters where they originally weren't to cut down on time spent in any given place. I won't bother with spoilers in this particular comment but I would love to go in depth in the replies if anyone wants to talk! There are a fair amount of changes, some good and some not-so-great. They are still acceptable given they had to shove the entire east blue arc into 8 episodes and cut down on a ton of characters. There were also some major reveals super early on but I also believe they were necessary given limitations. Again, spoilers will we will save for the replies if you guys choose to use it.
The costumes and special effects were actually pretty great. I did have a FEW issues but most of them are just preferences and they weren't anywhere close to annoying enough to ruin my enjoyment. I will say though, Luffy's Gum Gum scenes were actually pretty well done; certainly exceeded my expectations.
So TL;DR -> They respected the source material enough. It was not 1:1 nor did I expect it to be. There was some cheesy lines, but if nothing else, they put a smile on my face. It's by and far the best live action. It's not perfect, but it feels like One Piece. I give it an 8/10. I would definitely watch a second season.

After seeing the first three episodes myself I can openly admit how wrong I was. One thing I'm sort of feeling is they're trying to make the crew out to be much more underdogs than they were in the original. You see them struggling in their fights a lot more when in the original all their struggles were because they were always handicapped in some way like nami tied luffy up and handed him to buggy. Now even after buggy releases them from the cage they just sort of let themselves be recaptured.
They also made the scene where zoro eats the stepped on riceballs kinda weird. Like there was no reason for him to eat it here. The reason he ate them in the original was because he was starving and because helmeppo had insulted their taste. But none of those things were present here so why would he even eat it

6 EPISODES deep so far (opinons subject to change once I finish) really like the following: I enjoyed syrup village more in live action then the original, I thought the sanji Flashback was PERFECT, I love the wanted poster animation with the characters interacting with it, action is above expectation, Arlong is better than expected, and the Helmepo character is an absolutely amazing, it was smart for Mihawk to basically offscreen Don Krieg
Cons: Garp is a miss, he's not jolly or lovable, I feel they only wrote half of who he is. He is supposed to be an older scruffier , abrasive, rebellious, marine mirror of Luffy. I only get a sad bitter riggid one note old man, sorry, but everytime he's on screen it really sucks entire energy away from the show. (Actor is doing fine with what he has) Written really 1D so far the live action garp gets 4/10

    • @Snzn_7
      @Snzn_7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I like Garp in the show though. Like his Story arc in season 1 is more like they are putting him more like a standard model marine boss but slowly unraveling him to be more like Luffy at the end.
And Koby usually ends up picking those clues up as he us more in more exposed with Garp in different kind of scenarios.
Also Him chucking a cannon ball is one of the scenes and more so confirms yeah the show is willing to make characters that Uber strong strong.

@@QuibbleTrouble I finised ep 8. After collecting my thoughts Im even more certain that the direction with the marines was all wrong. Let me explain. Kobe and Hel should have never been at syrup village they should have stayed on the boat and already started their intense training/workout with Garp. We would have seen Garp crazy side by the training intensity but his fun side with him laughing at Koby and Hel failing. It would have been a very economical scene, no new locations, and time saving. Then if they wanted to have Garp show up at the end it would have been far more enjoyable.

@@Yo0264 I think I agree with you about syrup village, though I didn't hate that. But I do think the end of episode 8 reveals that Garp's character is still Garp. In the manga/anime Garp is done in a similar way, it's just much later and with less buildup.
For me before episode 8 I was worried they were going to make Garp too antagonistic, but episode 8 alleviated a lot of that fear for me. (I was actually kind of concerned they might combine Garp and Smoker, but that fear also was alleviated in episode 8)

I can't really put it into words but the whole time I had the feeling that each and everyone of them loved being there and put their heart into it to make it as good as it diserves to be.
Also im legit crushing on Emily Rudd. Never heard of her before this, but god fucking damn it, the sheer excellence of her embodying Nami, nailing her charakter and her scenes to the point... I've seldom watched anything going "fuck thats such incredible acting"... speechless...
Just as you can see how Jacob Gibson gets Usopp. From the Moment he appeared on the screen I felt like, "yeah thats Usopp no doubt about that" but in the best way possible.
I've seen a few Interviews with Inaki and just can't say anything other than hes Luffy incarnate. This guy was born and molded by his life to play Monkey D Luffy in the eventuall Life Action adaptation. He doesnt just look like him, he gets him, he understood Luffy while not having seen One Piece before his audition. He just immediatly clicked with him. He got how "He is a good listener" which is something that usually takes a good while of "spending time" with Luffy to understand.
Makenyu at the start, felt maybe a little too "cool" in my opinion, but you notice how he gradually warms up, so I believe that was an acting choice which I legit understand and cant wait to start seeing him goof of with the others and banter with Sanji more.
Can't say much about Sanji other than that if Sanji was as smooth as this guy, I doubt he had any trouble getting a woman to fawn over him^^. Also he definelty didnt get enough screentime to really shine so I'm certain once we get more with him he'll be just as good as his fellow crewmates.^^
Talking about Sanji, did they invent a machine to grab Zeff out of a parallele Universe in which One Piece takes Place and had him play himself??? God damn it how is the Casting of this series so damn good???

Luffy was fun but I wasn’t blown away. I appreciate how hard his character is to adapt though. Usopp was my least favourite. They toned him down lot in this series which was a good move because a direct translation would have been super annoying! But I fear they made him too subtle. I also found him super irritating in the anime initially but his character development is one of the best and you come to love him so much! This version of him is kind of boring and he didn’t match Luffy’s chaotic energy like he’s supposed to. Sanji is the most changed from the original for me. Just because he approved the changes doesn't mean they make a good story.
I care less about changing plots than I do changing character traits and the relationships between them.
Also can't stand Luffy voice, gonna switch to Japanese dubs and see if it is bearable.
Show is mid at best the 1st couple of episodes, hoping it improves.

They've nailed what needs to be nailed for a show that goes on for a long time. The characters. I like all these characters and I could watch them and their journey together for 10 seasons.

The only thing I would not have changed is the exact flow of Nami's arc, because that arc was literally handcrafted to give you the hardest emotional punch in the manga, and in the Live Action it was good, but not perfect.

One of the things that was said is that OP is probably the best manga/anime to adapt because its so over the top where a serious realistic story would be noticable when something "anime" happens, you kind of ommit it and accept it because you just saw an old man feed a snail telephone

As someone completely new to one piece in any form. I just sat and binge watched the entire thing and loved it. I agree it is kind of corny and not perfect, but there’s an unabashed genuine camaraderie and optimism that shines through the whole thing that I just couldn’t get enough of and made me quite happy to overlook some
Of the more zany cheesey elements. I think the actor who plays Luffy has done an incredible job nailing a tone that could so very easily have been cringey and annoying. Put a huge grin on my face I’m going to have to pick up the manga because I’m not waiting around until season 2 to come out. In short: sold!

I feel like the longer arcs like alabasta, dressrosa, Wano are going to need to be 4-8 episodes. I don’t know if those arcs could be told in 1-2 episodes.

Well tbh, I would rather like that they gonna do their own thing. For Alabasta I can see it happen (actually everything pre time skip), the post time skip stuff would better be shaken up and changed heavily for it to do well in love action.

This is my first foray into One Piece. I knew going in there was the manga/anime and knew it was about pirates and that's about it. I Finished watching all episodes yesterday after pretty much binging the whole thing in a couple days. I had so much fun watching this show and plan on getting into the manga next. It had so, so much heart with fun characters, set pieces, and it was just this bombastic experience. I was really interested in learning about pirates as a kid, and this show made me feel so nostalgic.

Perfect timing I just finished episode 3, huge fan of the anime and manga been reading weekly for like 6 years now and came into this with a very open mind. Episode 1 was really good actually I enjoyed it a lot it felt different but faithful at the same time, episode 2 was good as well I think Buggy is great, his giant circus tent is awesome and his devil fruit looks really good, episode 3 fell a little flat for me I still enjoyed it but it dragged at times, one thing that surprised me though was Arlong looked much better in the episode than in the trailers and the actor did a great job in the scene with Buggy.

its spectacular. Been reading OP since 2000 and this just oozes OP vibes. My favourite Straw hat pirate switches from scene to scene while reading because all of them are so good and I'm getting same moments in this. All actors look like they are having a blast playing their characters, especially Inaki Godoy. Buggy and Garp are my favourites. And Sanji and Zoros back and forth are perfection. Namis part broke me again. Just yes. More of this please and thank you.

about episodes 3/4 the funny thing is those episodes were the "sinker" for me (in the phrase: hook, line and sinker). The first 2 episodes I was enjoying myself but still had that cautiousness (I hadn't heard anything about the show prior, just turned it on one day), but the episodes with Kuro and the mansion had just incredible mystery, story, the Straw hats going on their first caper, amazing sets (seriously amazing!) all endeared me to the show, and I thought "I can't wait to see what other adventures they have!". I remember being vaguely aware of silly cat ears and cat-hair, hissing, and scratching, which on the surface is very kooky, but then I was okay with it because I realized this new world is ALWAYS going to bring something unique to the table, not just trope after trope. We might actually dodge the musical episode trope :) *hallelujah chorus*. In conclusion, for me, whatever kookiness-turn off or doubts you had about those episodes, those things didn't effect me much as I waltzed right past them into my acceptance of the show :D.

I've never gotten around to reading or watching One Piece. The crazy amount of volumes and episodes always scared me. But watching this, I got sucked in immediately and I want to be a Pirate now! Might even try to read the manga. It's obvious how much fun *everyone* was having on the set! From the costume team to the set designers, to the actors... ALL of them. As a result, the show has a big heart and soul imo.

I never read One Piece, but I really enjoyed the show. I found it to be much deeper than I expected with a good mix of fun/bright and dramatic/dark material. My only complaints were with some of the fight sequences but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it. The good guys get thrown 50 feet and are fine, but some of the lesser bad guys seem to go unconscious if a fist or foot is in their general area. But on entertainment value I give it an 8 out of 10. I also agree wholeheartedly on the costume and world being awesome!
