    Join Sarah Cray as she teaches how to paint Monet's "Water Lilies" using watercolor! Claude Monet is known as the founder of the Impressionist style. He strove to imbue the emotion evoked from a landscape scene in his work. Monet used oils to paint his original, using his lily pond in his backyard in Giverny, France, as a reference. In this watercolor painting tutorial, learn how to use watercolor in layers to blend and build a gorgeous water lily landscape.

    Sarah, you are such a great teacher. I just love your enthusiasm, so contagious. But Keenan's additions are equally wonderful and the interaction between the two of you are priceless. It makes watching your videos incredibly fun while I'm learning so much. Thank you--both of you!

    Great lesson on watercolor values sited! I struggle with that. I visited the Cleveland Museum of Art a few years ago. They had a few of Monet's paintings. You knew immediately that you were in the presence of great art. I was so overwhelmed that I began to get emotional and even had tears in my eyes as I looked as Monet's Spring Flowers. He's my favorite artist!!

    wonderful tutorial Sarah! this looks so good. And, I never thought of using a dry wash or mop brush to help blend your watercolors. I know you can use this for acrylics and oils... but, something new now to try with watercolor. Thank you!!

    I started learning with you in 2020 when i had an abundance of time being unemployed(the business I worked for shut down)- I even taught my grandkids, 7 and under. Then in 2021 I got a new job, moved to a new place and ended a relationship (all the biggies at once) and I stopped painting. Then I started a TH-cam channel doing mostly Randonautica- at lunchtime with my new new job.
    Before I stopped painting, I had even sold a few paintings (for cheap) and did a custom teepee on a postcard. I really got into postcards-I sent you one(to the brick and mortar address) of jelly fish with haiku 😳🤣
    Anyway, I remembered how much money I had invested into paint and brushes, and my grandkids were asking me if we could paint-
    And now, I have even posted a couple of videos doing some watercolor- people seem to enjoy them, I got a few new subscribers out of my effort. so I think I will keep at it- I always recommend your channel-
    So THANK YOU!
    I sent another TH-cam channel, The Curio Show (a couple that also does Randonautica videos) a few of my paintings (the pick up truck with flowers and the cowboy boots- they live in TX, and they showed them on their channel--that was so sweet of them and exciting! And the gal is trying watercolor now!
    So just a big THANK YOU! And now I crave to paint again. Its a part of me. Its so awesome!
    Taking that break did not help me, lol, or my grandkids- we had to relearn, -for them that it is not like finger paint🤣
    Trying that Barn Owl has been quite the challenge, 3X…. But I’m not giving up yet- its a bday gift for a coworker- in fact I got the cow and Christmas Buck for 2 other coworkers. Got my work cut out for me!
    Thanks for all your hard work and bubbly attitude- sure helps all of us!

    Is it possible to erase pencil lines after you have finished painting(And it’s dry)? TIA!

    • @LetsMakeArt
      @LetsMakeArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brenda! Great question, unfortunately once you have painted on your lines they do not erase. Sarah advises sketching your lines lightly or using a watercolor pencil.

    Which Water Lily Painting is this by Monet?

  • @stacygibson9572
    @stacygibson9572 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe this is a dumb question but: Are the lilypads at the top supposed to be bigger than the ones at the bottom? If the bottom ones are closer to the viewer wouldn't they be bigger? Please explain?

    • @LetsMakeArt
      @LetsMakeArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are working on a forced perspective you would want to make the ones in the back smaller than those in the front. We opted to do a more straight on view.

      No worries at all, it's just paint and paper and if you're not loving the original one you painted you can always take a step back and see if it grows on you. Or, throw it away and start again. Remember practice isn't about perfection it's all about the progression.❤️

    You were talking about the tape… my problem is that it rips my paper.
    Not the tape you were talking about, now i need to get some- I was using painters tape - and I stuck it to my clothing over and over - and it still rips my paper. It sticks too well😂
    So THANK YOU, for mentioning the tape you use.
