    Six year old TH-cam video solved my problem. 2005 Toyota Camry, JBL no Nav. You don't want to plug into the plug that went into the original radio, physically below it are two plugs. Unplug the white and blue one and plug into there to bypass the Amplifier. And here I was for hours thinking I somehow got the wrong harness. Plugged it in and everything worked perfectly first try! Huge thanks!

      So after I install the aftermarket head unit, and after I bypass the factory amplifier, am I able to install an aftermarket amp and sub to go with the head unit? Or is there more wiring and by passing to do in order to install another amp and sub

    Ok, kids. Hear you go. You need Metra's 99-8231 bracket. JBL Premium system needs Metra's 70-8113 harness. You'll need to run blue/white to switched power to power the JBL amp. Run everything else per instructions. The bracket seems a bit flimsy but firms up nicely once it's bolted up. I ran a bead of super glue along the tab/slot of each side piece after assembly

People like me trying to learn need to know how to wire the microphone up through the dash and all that fun stuff and it would be nice to know, how to get the correct deck and dash plate to fit the car. I’ve never installed a car stereo before, but I’m trying to do this by myself and I have no help so adding stuff like that into the video would help somebody like me. That’s all I’m trying to get at

    I have Camry XV30 + radio Kenwood. There are two harnesses - 1st is from radio Kenwood, 2nd is “Metra 70-8113”. Also you need to buy frame “Metra 99-8231”.
    Basically, to make Kenwood radio work with JBL amplifier, you must connect one wire from “Metra 70-8113” (color: blue with white stripe), with one wire from Kenwood (color: blue - he is named “P.Control”). This connection will activate JBL amplifier.
    Of course other wires from both harnesses must be connected together too, like power (+12V red; +12V yellow; GROUND black), sound (cinches from “Metra 70-8113” to radio - grey to FR, white to FL, purple to RR, green to RL) and antenna. It works in my Camry.

    Some Toyota radios had 2 antenna wires/plugs. You only can use one. Is that going to effect radio reception? What did you do with the second antenna wire? I haven't changed the Stereo unit yet in my wife's '02 Camry but wanted to research everything before purchasing what I need and such. Hers does not appear to have the JBL system. Just the radio, CD and cassette. If you order a Stereo unit from Sonic Electronix, they provide the adapters and stereo kit. Thanks for your help.

    • @ricksegura72
      @ricksegura72  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      RiceRacerH8R yes some Toyota radios will have two antenna connections and only one will be used for the aftermarket radio that you decide to install.
      If it's not equipped with the JBL premium system that's even better. It makes the install easier to wire up to the aftermarket harness.
      Crutchfield will also supply you with the parts, that are necessary to install the radio, when you purchase a radio from them. They are also very knowledgeable with most car audio questions.

    Tried to install an aftermarket stereo and speakers in my son's 2002 Camry that came with a JBL system from the factory. Damn, I've never seen anything like it. Complicated to say the least. We got the Metra 70-8113 from Autozone but still couldn't get the damn stereo to turn on. Plus, the new stereo only has 1 set of RCA outputs so we don't know which RCA cable to connect. the purple/grey or green/white. Can you point us in the right direction? Thanks. This by far has been the best video I've seen so far to try to install an aftermarket stereo in this type of vehicle. I think we're giving up on the speakers by the way.

      Try googling for the wiring schematic for your vehicle, you can just use the stereo wiring that comes with the new deck and just splice it into the old harness as long as you have a good map of what is what, that is how I did my 99 astro van and now I have a 2005 camry I am getting ready to do soon here. The wiring harness isn't necessarily required it just keeps you from having to splice wires. And even with the harness you may need to do some wire splicing, and I guess if you have whatever special JBL setup it looks like you need to keep it in play as much as you have to. Usually you only need to find the 12v power (and ground though I might be wrong might just be the hot wire), ignition wire or start wire (tells the radio to turn on with the ignition), and then which ever speakers are needed off the deck pre-amp typically front L/R and rear L/R (looks like in this video you need some of the RCA's as well, typically you only need those if you have an external amp from the stereo so you may not even have them depending on what yours came with stock from factory). The wiring schematic is key but these videos are good to tell you how to get the radio out without breaking your dash.
