Point of order: You should be calling him Bajie, not Zhu - Zhu is his family name, since Chinese names are written with the surname first. Even the old monkey calls him Bajie at the end, on that note. This is my favorite part of the game's story besides the secret ending reveal. It's great stuff.
@@FelisImpurrator Agreed, this part of the story is awesome. His name changes throughout the story (Zhu Ganglie to Zhu Wuneng to Zhu Bajie), so sticking to Zhu makes more sense here imo.
@@storieswithcookie lol. i was just gonna come in and tell you about first name vs last name and someone said it already... haahaa.. To further clarify it, in english, it is common to refer people by their last name, and vice versa in Chinese.... In china first names are much more unique than last names. Even today, it is common in rural villages, entire village shares the same last name. That's why it's weird when Chinese people hear you call ZhuBajie as Zhu... it's like... why is she calling him Mr. Zhu?... heehee. anyways.. 豬剛鬣 Zhu Ganglie is his alias in this reincarnation where he's both a pig n human. 猪悟能 Zhu Wuneng is his monk name 豬八戒 Zhu Bajie, or simply, Bajie, was how his master called him, and how this character was referred by in 99% of the story.
The argument between strict rules and freedom is very hard. I mean, before Wukong was a good person that he is, he was very mischievous, mainly because his ambition was way too high. Without the budha and the celestial court stoping him, the world would be in chaos. But of course being too strict is also a bad thing.
He already did in the Prequel called "Havoc in Heaven" (Basically the prologue story of Journey to the West), only reason he didn't demolished them was Buddha turn up and single-handedly (literally using one palm) to stop Wukong and trap him for 500 years as punishment for going rogue
@@hanchiman The Celestial Court wanted to keep the Monkey King in Shackles , and Wukong only wanted to Chillax in his mountain with his Monkey Subjects.
This scene in the game legitimately has tears in my eyes. The idea of having to force everyone you love out over and over is possibly the worst fate you can bestow on someone while letting them maintain all the memories of the past. the animation and song just hit me in a way I did not see coming. I knew the game would take liberties with the story but it was very well done.
@@storieswithcookie I imagine this would be the alternative to my greatest fear losing the memories of all the ones I love. Alzheimer’s is the greatest fear of mine I’d rather die than lose those memories.
there is a theory that is widely popular stating that the scarlet spider is still alive: If you look at the relic, which is a lotus flower core when it first appear from the body of the 100 eyes Daoist. you can see that all the seeds are still present. Baije then took the relic first before the ending cutscene start and end to which we, the destined one, received the in our inventory. At this point you can see that the relic is missing one of it's seed. many people believe that before he gave the relic to the destined one, Baije took one of the seed and gave it to the scarlet spider so that she can continue to live. They even make a grave behind the area where you fight the venom Daoist the 2nd time for here to fool the heavens into making them think that she is dead.
Celestial Court's office policy is hundred years ahead of its time. A high ranking general is actually punished for one instance of workplace sexual harassments. Respect.
Harassing a chick one time Then you get punished by spending 1000 life time being an ugly ass pig yaoguai and your GF get to be demonic spider for equal life times. Bro get cancelled from heaven.
The white-haired goddess is actually one of the Chang-Es. Chang-E is a rank title rather than a specific person in Chinese mythology. More specifically, she’s the Yu Tu (Jade Rabbit), and the guy is Jin Wu (Sun Crow). There are a few pieces of evidence hinting at this: 1. When BaJie chases the Jade Rabbit, she actually hops. 2. The curious “Jade Moon Rabbit” drops when you defeat BaJie in a boss fight. 3. In the same chapter, you can get the Sun Crow disc, and the description strongly hints that it should be used together with the Jade Moon Rabbit. 4. During the interaction with the Supreme Inspector, you can hear BaJie saying his banishment is due to false accusations, and he still holds that grudge to this day. This implies that the Supreme Inspector, either of his own will or someone else’s, wants to keep the relationship between the Jade Rabbit and the Sun Crow a secret, perhaps because dating among members of the celestial court is forbidden.
wait what you saw the cutscene before playing!!!??? actually same here XDDDD.... i dont have a current or last gen console.... and i dont think i will get one for a good few yrs at the moment but have been caught up in the wukong hype for the last few yrs! Cant wait for the DLC i wonder if the village of women makes an appearance!? Would be a big FU to the western "journos" also the lore heavy direction Gamescience is going in.... Gamescience's next games are immensely lore heavy.... i mean even journey to the west is heavy for me and ive seen different incarnations of the story! Gamescience has their work cut out trying to introduce Chinese mythology in game form to the West! No doubt the same diversity BS and pushback will rear its head again for Gamescience's next few outings for the next 20 yrs LOL if the projects Gamescience are rumoured to be wanting to bring to life is anything to go by!!! Cant wait for Investitute of the Gods! ive just discovered it in movie form! And also A Chinese Ghost Story!!!! A classic with memorable actors actresses songs and singers!! Hopefully this trend in Chinese mythology will get someone to bring Mr Vampire or something like that as a game! With the jumping Jiangshi! i know Sleeping Dogs did do that! But enough with Western zombies! I want to see Chinese Ghosts and Demons, Vampires and Zombies! Oh and definitely the beautiful Fox demons / Succubus etc!
i think everyone burst into tears.... didnt they!!!? tbh its a very human story... we've all loved and let go of it whether we wanted to or not sometime in our life... maybe Zhu Bajie represents all of us like Samwise Gamgee the flawed yet very human and very important character in TLOTR
In the Chinese language, "a pig" sounds like "spider". The girl mistakenly thought Bajie turned into a spider so she too became one, giving up everything in the Heaven.
Great video. I wish you went over the lyrics of "Listen Not" as it is beautiful and depressing. It better showcases Zhu's and Violet's desires, especially the last verse, that one broke my heart.
She chose to reincarnate into a spider because of Information given to Her when She seek of Zhu(Pig) Bajie's whereabout before venture to mortal realm in search for him. What She heard from the source was "He turned into a pig" (他He变成了Turned into只猪a Pig). Unfortunately, She mis heard the Information meant to passed to her. "他He变成了Turned into蜘蛛a Spider) . a Pig(Zhi Zhu) Vs. Spider(Zhi Zhu)。 Exact same Pronounciation 😢
You have to apply thought and reading to fully enjoy the story most people need the story explained because the game doesn’t directly explain the stories and lessons
So I believe someone said that 6 of the girls are not her biological daughters but her nieces that she adopted when Wukong and gang came through and killed her sisters in JTTW. I could be wrong, but it would not surprise me as she has been holding onto the love/hate of Bajie for so long, and it seems implied that his daughter is the youngest (the looks).
To my understanding from the stories I grew up with, Pigsy's punishment was to live 1000 lives where his romance would end in brutal tragedy; an attempt to traumatise him from falling in love in heaven ever again. Midway through his punishment, Pigsy refuses to reincarnate due to the immense suffering; he scuffels with the guards in the underworld who try unsuccessfully to force feed him amnesia soup, and ends up falling into a hole for reincarnating as a pig, memory in tact. Guanyin (mercy deity) later finds him and restores his faculties on the condition that he protects Tang Sanzang on his Journey to the West.
Bajie came to the human world 500 years ago, and on average he came once every 50 years, so 10 times is about right.(The reason for the modification is that I was also wrong, so I wrote it 100 times)

Off topic kind of, but it makes me a little happy knowing that 4th sister and Destined one are heavily implied to be lovers. If you take from the Chinese cultural side, it also implies in many moments that they are engaged.
@@annaviedoux9028 when you meet the fourth sister a second time the lanterns start shouting 大喜, da xi, which translates to big day. might sound normal in english, but in chinese, it means something along the lines of “big day someone’s getting married” and it only starts when the destined one arrives there, the same thing happens when the controlled zhubajie is lead there and the lanterns shout the same thing implying (which we also know) that bajie and the violet spider had a relationship. when you beat buddhas right hand, and it attempts to fly away, she yoinks it down with her silk to create a bridge. she also says stinky monkey, the direct translation of 臭猴子,chouhouzi. it’s very different from how erlang calls wukong in the intro referring him as foul monkey. in chinese culture, it’s a thing of love. her bun is also different from the rest of the sisters. hers is up in a bun, which signifies taken/married in ancient china. when you do the talisman quest, she appears on one of them and tells the destined one to take the pig and go away and don’t involve yourself in this. the talismans are placed there by the celestial court to keep the spiders from leaving that place, and taking down all 4 means defying the celestial court. when you do get to the fourth talisman, you hear a voice saying “run”. i see vids of it in eng dub and the emotion of frantic, panic etc is just not conveyed as good as it is in the chinese dub. when you do rip off the fourth talisman, it summons a boss which leads to a scripted fight. the destined one gets overpowered but is spared by a crane guy who states “you lead a maidens heart astray” and “i’ll keep her as a pill for you in case you barge into the court as a reminder”. the maiden is obviously the fourth sister as you, the destined one lead her astray thinking you could change the court, her life etc but she’s captured. in the og film, the furnace crane guy talks about is capable of burning away immortality and turn someone into a pill. i’ll talk about why lots of people hope the dlc includes her and why people love her. you also refight the same boss later on as well and get to snap his neck lastly, why people lover her so much. she helps out the destined one in a variety of ways. when you first get to chapter 4, you’re in a chest lugged by 2 ugly pigs you transform into later on. she kills them, looks at the player and zhubajie before leaving. when you jump down to go into the upper hollow, you’re stuck in a web. she, in her spider transformation, knocks you out but patches you up. there’s 2 more chests around the area where you wake up. there’s also a non-intractable pill bottle that “looks like” the medicine for removing poisoned state. at the same spot the lanterns yell daxi and she kills them, that area leads to 5 chests, full of materials for the destined one. after beating the violet spider, she summons millions of mini spiders forcing the player to run. the fourth sister pulls you to safety, to the temple of yellow flowers shrine before disappearing once again. her screaming run frantically is the last we ever see of her again as she isn’t present in the fight against the chapter 4 final boss. rip fourth sister, me like everyone else hopes the dlc lets us rescue the fourth sister and turn the crane guy into chicken nuggets.
@@annaviedoux9028 There are none. Just hormonal teenagers projecting furry fanfic. Wukong himself had an undisclosed lover he left and never forgot who may have been this spider as much as anyone else; but there is absolutely nothing implicated between the destined one and anyone. Most the of "theory" comes from people misidentifying the 4th and 2nd sisters and also not understanding the plot.
I see Zhu Bajie as what he is known for as the Id/desire. A flawed but relatable character. He cannot reach his goal but he is taking steps. I noticed how little he eats in game but LOVES to complain! But he follows through (most of the time).
well i understand about zhu baije and violet spider because i live in east asia, especially in south east asia (indonesia). i watch serial tv of chinesse version (1986) and hongkong (1996) and read a novel named JTTW (Journey To The West) since i was a 8 years old. his real name is General Tiang Peng, He's a general of sea in celestial court and of course he liked Taiyin starlord (in hongkong tv series called chang'e) but she has husband named Hou yi. a chinesse warrior with archer who eliminated 5 suns to avoid dryness but he saw taiyin starlord was making out with The emperor of celestial Court ( Jade Emperor) and then Jade emperor condemn Tian Feng to reincarnation of 1000 sufferings of love and he's too late to realize that he loved someone that The servant of the moon goddess fell in love with Tian Feng because it was said that Tian Feng (zhu baije) had been cursed to become a pig. So, this servant actually wanted to enter the world and was cursed to become a spider even though he wanted to become a pig because of pronoun and spelling errors because of "Zhu". and tian feng can avoid to her because he had ever seen that the warrior of the celestial court killed that women he loved.
Chang'e is not a person but a position serving under Taiyin in JTTW, there are many females in the court, all called Chang'e. the purple Chang'e heard that bajie turned into "One spider"(一蜘蛛‘yizhizhu’), and tried also be a spider to be with him, but bajie actually turned into "one 只 of pig“ (一只猪 “yizhizhu”)which sounds the same in speaking language. Also if you remember 黄眉 yellowbrow has mini bosses non void(non-kong), non able or non neng, non pure, and non white, which basicly going against Jinchanzi or tang monk's four protectors, wukong (enlightenment in void), wu neng(enlightenment in able), and Wu jing and the white dragon-horse.
one more, Bajie's rake is technically stronger than Jingubang of Wukong; it was specially made to counter the Jinggubuang, which original purpose was a depth measuring tool.
@@zihaoding7828 ruyi jinggu bang is just a tool to measure the depth of ocean i believe. it's not really a weapon. according to the Lore , jinggubang was placed there by Dayu , the ancient chinese entity who treated the apocalyptic flood back in the mythical era of china.
But Chang'e as the goddess of the moon is much more widely known by Chinese people. The Mid-autumn Festival has a strong relationship with her. Taiyin [I think she is a goddess who rules the coldest and the darkest power of the world, also the ruler of the moon] is a later moon goddess who is worshiped by Taoism which was founded during the Eastern Han Dynasty. Dating back to Shang Dynasty, the name Chang'e has been recorded in a prediction book. The mythology of Chang'e is much older, her original name was Heng'e. However, her name was changed in Han dynasty...In Journey to the West,Chang'e is not the moon goddess maybe...and her duty is to serve Taiyin.
Zhu bajie in myth: comical character and always being bullied by wukong. Zhu bajie in game : a freedom fighter, wise (and cranky uncle/mentor), secretly loving husband and father (i kinda suspicious about the youngest of spider sisters father is zhu bajie).
I was quite surprised as well with the change in his personality but the more I think about it, maybe it's because Zhu Bajie in the game is Zhu Bajie after JTTW timeline? So this Bajie is already more "matured" (which is kinda a funny word to describe an immortal like him haha), already trained by Monk Tang and went through journey that "humbled" him in a better way hence wiser Bajie. And yeah I think the youngest sister is his daughter. But since their fate is pretty much doomed if Bajie ever acknowledges her existence and that Violet Spider is his lover, he acted like he doesn't know them (hence the comment 'who fathered such horrendous thing' he said when he was captured). I think the daughter also knows this doomed fate, she was also hesitant (at least that was what I interpret from her final scene).
Not Taiyin Zhu Bajie fell in love with, it was Jade Rabbit a dancer under Taiyin, there is a curio reflect this. The man Jade Rabbit met is Jinwu, there also a curio in the game, the two curios compliment each other in the game.
Yet, the new Snow White said she think love with a prince is weird, weird. She rather want power instead of love. That is why the pig spider love story in BM:W is more appealing than the power hungry no love live Princess story.
Hm. I kind of...interpreted the whole story in Black Myth Wukong differently. Since the game takes place 500 years later, after the "fall" of Sun Wukong. Baije even recites alot of the main story elements of his tale. But yeah, im not that familiar with chinese mythology :) great vid, thanks alot.
Black myth wukong is largely based on the 1984 tv show depiction of jttw. So, violet spider in the story was a former servant of chang e, the white haired woman.
i wonder if she breaks down movies? It will eventually get a game by Gamescience that theyve alluded to.... but obviously doesnt yet exist but is supposedly the same pantheon as wukong and precedes wukong from what little i know of it.... Investitue of the gods recently was a chinese movie in the vein of TLOTR part 1 came out last yr... part 2 was due out this yr and part 3 next etc... but has been delayed Gamescience has hinted or out right confirmed that they want to bring that to game form..... from the movie, it sounds like a massive massive undertaking! heck Chinese mythology is a massive undertaking in any form hence no ones ever successfully turned it into movies with consistent vfx etc
Tianhe is the Milky Way or the Galaxy. Bajie's official title is the Marshal of Tianhe in Chinese mythology., which is equivalent to the commander-in-chief of the Galaxy in science fiction movies, but he still has to obey the Jade Emperor who rules the universe. In Chinese mythology, different sources have different opinions on who holds the highest position, the founder, the saint, the ancestor, or the emperor of the divine world. Although Bajie is in charge of the army, he belongs to the middle class of civil servants. The deceived Wukong once got the lowest job. They once quarreled and fought, and Bajie was humiliated by Wukong for the first time. When they traveled west together, it was not the first time they met and they were very familiar with each other.
@@storieswithcookie are pig friend really went through true infinity and true infinite lifespan of endless reincarnation it was probably nothing but true Infinity in infinite endless pain and suffering you can tell cuz he cried all he wants to be with a woman he loves again but can't
Indeed It's a tragic love story . But watching the end of the scene where a violet spider changes many different past lives reincarnation from a beautiful woman into an ugly spider while Zhu Bajie in reverse back to the 1st finally in tears actually revealed that heavenly judge and jade Emperor not just Lost but also wronged them for poor misjudged. The Violet spider female is a true example view of inner strength, resilience, independence and perseverance woman despite being just a weak woman from the outside but her love to Bajie Transcendent over different many lives reincarnation and always will find back to the place where it will stay . Compared to modern day western strong and independent woman coming with vulgar speech only shows hard from the outside only to be weak mentality inside (even refused to touch a brick lol) rejected man but not without taking out all their money 1st before getting dump can be seen no different than heavenly Court hypocrisy level. I guess true love meaning by letting someone go if they love you will return back after long years totally BS. True love will always never leave and will find it back to the place where they are meant to stay despite countless different life reincarnated apart with cursed to be a monster. It is really make me sad in tears emotionally for it reminds me my previous relationship has to be ended with death do us part with my late partner who died from leukaemia 🥲🥲🥲
FYI,the ending of the song in the cut scene, if we meet in the next life, the female voice says “remember to look back at me” and the male voice says “don’t look back at me” …. 😢
The explanation couldn't be more in complete in terms of literal meaning. Believe it or not, the storyteller intention is the spiritual story which only Zen master really understood it but I think it's enough to cover the literal meaning side of it. Thanks
The most interesting part of this game is Bajie's human actor is the most handsome guy in the game's human male actors. th-cam.com/video/foEW21kZtxw/w-d-xo.html
I’m pretty sure that the man Bajie catches Chang’e with wasn’t the jade emperor. It was another male god. Wu gang? That’s how it went in the journey to the west show back in 1996 anyways. But I’m sure there’s many versions of Journey to the west.
i think she probably is. og jttw had wukong and bajie slaughtering all but one spider guai who is revealed to be violet spider as bajie couldn’t bring himself to do it. idk if it’s true but bajie faked her death, yet has to turn away from her love because the court will manipulate it someway so that bajie has to do it again, since he’s cursed with unable to find love for over 1000 lifetimes
4:07 that is not taiyin and jade emperor (no official explanation on who they are). The truth is, the animation company wants to add this unknown guy into the animation, and Game Science said "fine. but give me 20% off on it"😂
game science Art director was in an interview, can find on youtube but all in Chinese, he literally said the silvery beautiful lady was Chang er and not Tai yin. And that the anime was a collaboration with another studio that ask to have some creative freedom. The Art director literally says they not tell him who the powerful handsome being that banished bajie was 😂 so it is left for you to imagine and there is no right answer
she dowsn't know about the pearl thing, if you return to the chapter 4 ending you find violet spider's grave, with Zhu Badje's pearl of youth on it.. he gives up eternal youth to be reborn again so in the next life they may be togheter again..
Good... Now tell about the 4th spider sister, people said that she's fall in love with the destined one. Are this are base on the story journey to the west? (Wukong)
Good... Now tell about the 4th spider sister, people said that she's fall in love with the destined one. Are this are base on the story journey to the west? (Wukoo)
I need to point something out: This is commonly misrepresented in Chinese literature as well: Chang'e is NOT the name of the moon goddess. It is not a name. It is a TITLE. Any heavenly maiden who serves the Moon Goddess Tianyin has the title Chang'e. The wife of Houyi is actually name Hui'e. While she is also a heavenly maiden, Chang'e is her title. No goddess is named Chang'e. Essentially, the Marshall sexually harassed the waitress while drunk, to put in simpler terms.
Honestly, I really have enjoyed all the stories I’ve covered! I love The Witcher and Black Myth as these have more depth and character backstories than some others. But videos like Turnip Boy and Bonnie’s Bakery are just so ridiculous 😂
@@storieswithcookie well to be honest with you i started watching your videos when i looked up a lore video about black myth and i started watching your videos after that but i will check out the Witcher videos bc i started watching the show and I started playing the game Witcher 3
Maybe everyone thinks that this story is about the oppression of Wukong by the gods, and that Wukong pursues personal freedom, which is an inaccurate understanding. Wukong is not a person, but also includes the Bull King and other weak countries (such as the hometown where Red Boy was massacred). They are a group of people who just want to fight for the independence of their country, not to be eliminated because they are a threat. Wukong said at the beginning that he could understand that the gods wanted him to surrender and continue to serve the gods, (It is mentioned in the animation between him and the Bull King: he once thought that surrendering was the right choice. But in the end, not changing was seen as a threat) but he could not understand the massacre of innocent people. Wukong is immortal personally, and no one can kill him. He was captured in the first battle with Erlang in the original story, and died this time. Both failures were to stop the massacre. He believes that sooner or later someone who inherits his will will stand up and successfully challenge the oppression of powerful forces.Erlang Shen is a demigod who once rebelled against the gods, but surrendered to protect his sister. However, because he is a relative of the emperor, he is allowed to live as a mercenary. He understands Wukong and will help Wukong test whether the heir is qualified and strong enough to challenge the heavens. Maybe in the DLC he will become a helper like Bajie.
Journey to the west (1986 China version), Journey To the west (Hongkong 1996), Jouney to the west (2012) and Journey of the west movies (china version) in 2022.
Would the Violet spider just reincarnate again??? Edit: Ykw I don’t even wanna know I’m just gonna assume she reincarnates and reunites with Bajei and beat the crap out of the Jade Emperor.
Don't know why so many people said that Chang'E is not the goddess of the moon as every Chinese knew that Chang'E refers to the goddess of the moon from the legend of Houyi, the warrior who shot down 9 suns from the sky sparing the last one so that it will continue to provide light for the world during the day. Chang'E was the name of the wife of Houyi in the legend of Houyi who ascended the moon to be the goddess of the moon. Maybe there is a different interpretation or version of the name Chang'E in this game, but that is not according to the legend even the original story of Journey to the West. Even the Chinese lunar space mission is known as Chang'E as it symbolizes the moon goddess ascending to the moon from earth.
Wait i thought Bajie fell in love with the moon rover or something... wait i got that wrong havent i.... the moon rover is Jade Rabbit.... i forget what is Chang E up in space
@@marvinfok65 Well Chang E from what ive seen briefly so far is the female character with hair that obviously alludes to 2 bunny ears! Ive also read in a comment that Zhu wasnt actually in love with Chang E but another girl, the spider girl... Zhu just got punished for witnessing some forbidden celestial hank panky by accident between Chang E and the Jade Emperor... Also im not all too familiar with the lore.... but regurgitating what ive read somewhere.... i know of some of the characters, i just didnt know they all existed in one massive universe and interacted with each other... example Chang E and Houyi i heard of before of shooting down 9 suns because it was far too hot etc... but i assumed thats an isolated story separate from pigsy and wukong etc
In this interpretation, she is an ordinary handmaiden in heaven. Her small station in heaven v.s the Moon Goddess symbolizing his misguided pursuit of distant, unattainable things, and overlook those who genuinely care about him, which is the Violet Spider/Handmaiden. This in turn gradually lead to her unfortunate bitterness and corruption!
Depending on who you ask for the folklore, Bajie is a womanizer, got caught sexual harassing and neglecting his duties; there were never romance but just unrequited love. As punishment he was suppose to reincarnate as a human multiple times, each time experiencing his destined love and then tragically losing said love before taking his own life due to grief; the perpetual cycle continues and he would not remember any of his past lives he experience until his death because prior to reincarnation they are supposed to drink the soup to make them forget before being reborn. Bajie, unable to continue the torment, attempted to escape the underworld and accidently fell into the animal pool of reincarnation, specifically the pig and thus the current Bajie was born with all his retained memories. After being reborn as a pig and have the knowledge of magic from his past life, he transformed himself into a handsome human and went around continuing his womanizing but his fate was always to lose the one he truly love (in said lifetime; he lost a lot of different wives in different lives) and a instance happened where his lover died and he happened to come across the monk (his master). To escape the cycle he was offered to join the Journey to the West as a means of redemption and to give up love/lust. The Journey to the West is basically a redemption arc for all the participants aside from spreading Buddhism. Wukong was his pride hence the circlet and throughout the journey he was humbled and learn to grow as a person, Bajie was his love/lust and he learned its better to let go [sometimes] if he truly love someone, Tang was his sloth/laziness which is why his journey have him put a lot of effort in order to succeed. His last 2 disciples aren't too bad, just minor mistakes (imo) but still same concept. Blackmyth version that depicts the Jade Emperor contradicts the folklore somewhat, not to say the Jade Emperor is perfect in his decisions with the storytelling but a sinful act such as infidelity contradict his position as Jade Emperor. A position conferred to him because he lived his life as a human doing only good deeds/merits thousands if not millions of times with not a single sin. From what I recall Bajie wanted the moon goddess [Chang'e] but the moon goddess loved another [Hou Yi] and those 2 couples spawn the side story such as rabbit on the moon; they were punished for their secret fraternization meet ups and Bajie for sexual harassment. But to be fair I can see why Blackmyth made celestial heaven the bad guys. In the folklores they do tend to be the baddies. Take Erlang Shen for example, a being who is almost as powerful as Wukong and in order to control him, they imprisoned his mother 💀in one part of Wukong's myth he freed his mother and the respected rivalry became BFF. Erlang Shen couldn't stand Wukong when they first met because Erlang was expected to be the perfect little soldier of heaven and Wukong was the polar opposite with the immense freedom he envied. Erlang was raised to believe that if everything was in perfect order and through collective merits, that one day the Jade Emperor would pardon his mother and have her release that's why when Wukong rolled along he saw that his chances to save his mother was being disrupted by a monkey.
No doubt that Wukong can break and chaos the heavenly kingdom aka celestial court because of the Jade emperor's rules that the Yaoguai (demons) and hisself didn't have a freedom and he wanna killed every God after the end of Journey to the west just like the Kratos wanna pay to do it to kill all god in greek mythology in GOW because he wanna be freedom.
It's not personal heroism. Wukong is immortal. He can easily escape and get personal freedom, but he wants to help others get the power and freedom of life. When he is forced to sacrifice his life for the reason that others are being slaughtered, he is a real hero.
The running posture of the white haired girl in the video animation is very similar to that of a rabbit running, and her hairstyle is like a rabbit's ears, so the white haired girl in the video looks more like a jade rabbit. In some ancient Chinese legends, the Jade Rabbit and the Golden Crow are a couple.
Maybe the white-haired one is the Jade Rabbit, and the Golden Crow is the Jade Emperor or his son. The Jade Emperor has ten sons, called the Ten Golden Crows, nine of whom were killed by Erlang.Another legend says that Chang'e's ex-husband killed nine suns, so the love between the Moon Goddess and Jinwu (the Sun) can only be caused by the Rabbit.
Why u call “zhu” when zhu is the surname in Chinese Most ppl would use bajie to reference him Your using zhu is confusing to beginner , let alone unclear to beginner , they might think Zhu is his first name
What did you think of Zhu's tragic love story with Violet Spider?
Point of order: You should be calling him Bajie, not Zhu - Zhu is his family name, since Chinese names are written with the surname first. Even the old monkey calls him Bajie at the end, on that note.
This is my favorite part of the game's story besides the secret ending reveal. It's great stuff.
@@FelisImpurrator Agreed, this part of the story is awesome. His name changes throughout the story (Zhu Ganglie to Zhu Wuneng to Zhu Bajie), so sticking to Zhu makes more sense here imo.
@@storieswithcookie Ah, I see. That is a fair point!

The more I learn about the Celestial Court, the more convinced I become that Wukong needs to do to them what Kratos did to the Olympians.
Maybe in the dlc wukong will destroy the celestial court again😍
They're evil
The argument between strict rules and freedom is very hard. I mean, before Wukong was a good person that he is, he was very mischievous, mainly because his ambition was way too high. Without the budha and the celestial court stoping him, the world would be in chaos. But of course being too strict is also a bad thing.
He already did in the Prequel called "Havoc in Heaven" (Basically the prologue story of Journey to the West), only reason he didn't demolished them was Buddha turn up and single-handedly (literally using one palm) to stop Wukong and trap him for 500 years as punishment for going rogue

This scene in the game legitimately has tears in my eyes. The idea of having to force everyone you love out over and over is possibly the worst fate you can bestow on someone while letting them maintain all the memories of the past. the animation and song just hit me in a way I did not see coming. I knew the game would take liberties with the story but it was very well done.

there is a theory that is widely popular stating that the scarlet spider is still alive:
If you look at the relic, which is a lotus flower core when it first appear from the body of the 100 eyes Daoist. you can see that all the seeds are still present.
What a cool theory, thank you for sharing!
Sounds like it would fit completely with the story, considering the secret ending. A trick worthy of the Monkey King.
Maybe we'll find out, or have a tiny hint towards it in the apparently confirmed DLC
That relic became the preservation orb curio. It doesn't allow her to live on, it keeps her body fresh from rotting.

The white-haired goddess is actually one of the Chang-Es. Chang-E is a rank title rather than a specific person in Chinese mythology. More specifically, she’s the Yu Tu (Jade Rabbit), and the guy is Jin Wu (Sun Crow). There are a few pieces of evidence hinting at this:
This implies that the Supreme Inspector, either of his own will or someone else’s, wants to keep the relationship between the Jade Rabbit and the Sun Crow a secret, perhaps because dating among members of the celestial court is forbidden.
for English speakers, Chang-E pronounce in Chinese more like Chang-Er in English🙂

Gamescience has their work cut out trying to introduce Chinese mythology in game form to the West! they either don't read, didn't play the game, or they're paid to bs about it.
In the DLC may Zhu Bajie and Violet Spider be freed from their curse to live as a family with their daughter...

Off topic kind of, but it makes me a little happy knowing that 4th sister and Destined one are heavily implied to be lovers. If you take from the Chinese cultural side, it also implies in many moments that they are engaged.
Waittt where are these moments implied? I didn't even know that
@@annaviedoux9028 when you meet the fourth sister a second time the lanterns start shouting 大喜, da xi, which translates to big day. might sound normal in english, but in chinese, it means something along the lines of “big day someone’s getting married” and it only starts when the destined one arrives there, the same thing happens when the controlled zhubajie is lead there and the lanterns shout the same thing implying (which we also know) that bajie and the violet spider had a relationship.
when you beat buddhas right hand, and it attempts to fly away, she yoinks it down with her silk to create a bridge. she also says stinky monkey, the direct translation of 臭猴子,chouhouzi. it’s very different from how erlang calls wukong in the intro referring him as foul monkey. in chinese culture, it’s a thing of love.
her bun is also different from the rest of the sisters. hers is up in a bun, which signifies taken/married in ancient china.
when you do the talisman quest, she appears on one of them and tells the destined one to take the pig and go away and don’t involve yourself in this. the talismans are placed there by the celestial court to keep the spiders from leaving that place, and taking down all 4 means defying the celestial court. when you do get to the fourth talisman, you hear a voice saying “run”. i see vids of it in eng dub and the emotion of frantic, panic etc is just not conveyed as good as it is in the chinese dub. when you do rip off the fourth talisman, it summons a boss which leads to a scripted fight. the destined one gets overpowered but is spared by a crane guy who states “you lead a maidens heart astray” and “i’ll keep her as a pill for you in case you barge into the court as a reminder”. the maiden is obviously the fourth sister as you, the destined one lead her astray thinking you could change the court, her life etc but she’s captured. in the og film, the furnace crane guy talks about is capable of burning away immortality and turn someone into a pill. i’ll talk about why lots of people hope the dlc includes her and why people love her. you also refight the same boss later on as well and get to snap his neck
lastly, why people lover her so much. she helps out the destined one in a variety of ways. when you first get to chapter 4, you’re in a chest lugged by 2 ugly pigs you transform into later on. she kills them, looks at the player and zhubajie before leaving. when you jump down to go into the upper hollow, you’re stuck in a web. she, in her spider transformation, knocks you out but patches you up. there’s 2 more chests around the area where you wake up. there’s also a non-intractable pill bottle that “looks like” the medicine for removing poisoned state. at the same spot the lanterns yell daxi and she kills them, that area leads to 5 chests, full of materials for the destined one. after beating the violet spider, she summons millions of mini spiders forcing the player to run. the fourth sister pulls you to safety, to the temple of yellow flowers shrine before disappearing once again. her screaming run frantically is the last we ever see of her again as she isn’t present in the fight against the chapter 4 final boss.
rip fourth sister, me like everyone else hopes the dlc lets us rescue the fourth sister and turn the crane guy into chicken nuggets.
They never implied it
@@annaviedoux9028 There are none. Just hormonal teenagers projecting furry fanfic. Wukong himself had an undisclosed lover he left and never forgot who may have been this spider as much as anyone else; but there is absolutely nothing implicated between the destined one and anyone. So, this servant actually wanted to enter the world and was cursed to become a spider even though he wanted to become a pig because of pronoun and spelling errors because of "Zhu". and tian feng can avoid to her because he had ever seen that the warrior of the celestial court killed that women he loved.

Amazing explanation thank you! Such a heartbreaking curse
Aww thank you! ❤️😊❤️ It really is so sad though
嫦娥奔月是上古神话,西游记是宋元话本、明清小说 ,嫦娥的设定并不一致。不要斤斤计较这些细节,人家能理解剧情就已经很不容易了,还要被你们搞晕。

She is his daughter because she has his pig ear traits. As you can see in the game no matter what he transom into he still keep his big ear traits.

Gamescience has hinted or out right confirmed that they want to bring that to game form..... from the movie, it sounds like a massive massive undertaking! heck Chinese mythology is a massive undertaking in any form hence no ones ever successfully turned it into movies with consistent vfx etc

Which movie scenes are you showing in the video can you tell us??

I need to point something out:
This is commonly misrepresented in Chinese literature as well: Chang'e is NOT the name of the moon goddess. Essentially, the Marshall sexually harassed the waitress while drunk, to put in simpler terms.
hi cookie!
Hey friend!! 😊
@@storieswithcookie what’s ur favorite story you covered on your channel so far?
Honestly, I really have enjoyed all the stories I’ve covered! I love The Witcher and Black Myth as these have more depth and character backstories than some others. But videos like Turnip Boy and Bonnie’s Bakery are just so ridiculous 😂
@@storieswithcookie well to be honest with you i started watching your videos when i looked up a lore video about black myth and i started watching your videos after that but i will check out the Witcher videos bc i started watching the show and I started playing the game Witcher 3
Aww shucks, that’s sweet! So happy to have you here ☺️
Maybe everyone thinks that this story is about the oppression of Wukong by the gods, and that Wukong pursues personal freedom, which is an inaccurate understanding. But in the end, not changing was seen as a threat)
but he could not understand the massacre of innocent people. Maybe in the DLC he will become a helper like Bajie.
bajie only make 1 mistakes but he punished for 1000 life times
Which movie/drama these clips are from?
Journey to the west (1986 China version), Journey To the west (Hongkong 1996), Jouney to the west (2012) and Journey of the west movies (china version) in 2022.
Violet spider really jealous of the pig cause he left with a monkey 😂
Well now that you put it that way 😂
Would the Violet spider just reincarnate again???
Edit:
Ykw I don’t even wanna know I’m just gonna assume she reincarnates and reunites with Bajei and beat the crap out of the Jade Emperor.
I think so! And yeah that ending would be well deserved 😎
Why did black myth exclude Sha Wu Jing?
Sooo, Bajie is immortal, while violet spider reincarnates every time?
Almost in every game when it comes to false gods they're all evil
Chang’E is not THE goddess of the moon.
That would Star Lord Taiyin. (Yes she’s a woman) Chang’E is a title for any of her handmsids.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chang%27e
Chang'E is a title shared by many. Goddess of Moon is a Chang'E.
Who is ’Chen A‘?
Damn I know Zhu made a mistake when he was drunk, but the Jade Emperor was a piece of 💩 Please tell me he get's his just due?
We’re all looking forward to it in a DLC!
Really the novel is a critics to government and society in the respective era.
Use the tv show footage , I feel it is better
Are they fictional characters? Then how comes their story makes me cry?
You’re not alone 😭
What if he just stay. And like raizen of yu yu hakusho don't eat anymore.
wait was the violet spider the moon goddess or a heavenly maiden?
In this interpretation, she is an ordinary handmaiden in heaven. Her small station in heaven v.s the Moon Goddess symbolizing his misguided pursuit of distant, unattainable things, and overlook those who genuinely care about him, which is the Violet Spider/Handmaiden. This in turn gradually lead to her unfortunate bitterness and corruption!
reminds me of another folk i know
Depending on who you ask for the folklore, Bajie is a womanizer, got caught sexual harassing and neglecting his duties; there were never romance but just unrequited love.
Erlang was raised to believe that if everything was in perfect order and through collective merits, that one day the Jade Emperor would pardon his mother and have her release that's why when Wukong rolled along he saw that his chances to save his mother was being disrupted by a monkey.
i hope i can save my spider from turkey face bird
😂
Crist Turnpike
Politics even in heaven.....
in the original story. there's no romance for zhu bajie and mother spider.

Why u call “zhu” when zhu is the surname in Chinese
Most ppl would use bajie to reference him
Your using zhu is confusing to beginner , let alone unclear to beginner , they might think Zhu is his first name
😢
It’s a tragic story!
😮🐗🥰🫶
Omg you captured the scene perfectly 😂
You forgot the one missing lotus seed
