  • Join TASU President Kevin Christopherson and TASU folks as they survey and flag part of the new West Mountain Trail Center in Southwest Utah.
In Episode 2, you get a sneak peek at a portion of Purgatory, the double-black trail that drops through a narrow, boulder-strewn canyon. Kevin also provides an overview of the planned flow trails, a veritable "spaghetti bowl" of man-made trails designed for all ages and abilities!
The Trail Alliance of Southern Utah (TASU) is a non-profit group that creates, enhances and protects world-class recreational trail experiences for mountain bikers and other trail enthusiasts in the Southern Utah community. We're a proud Chapter of IMBA.

    Our inspiration: Trails Connect People!
Mountain biking and other outdoor recreation contribute to a healthy lifestyle that promotes strong community bonds and positively impacts our economy. Local and tourism-driven demand for existing and new recreation opportunities strains natural resources as well as federal, state and county human resources. Through partnerships, advocacy, education, government relations, fundraising, design and construction, TASU builds community commitment to the creation and preservation of trails that deliver sustainable, high-quality experiences for trail enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.

These are going to be great. So excited. One suggestion: can we consider different names? We already have a Hellhole trail in Ivins (hiking) and a Purgatory trail by Leeds. Thanks for all you guys do.

These are BLM’s decisions. We’re hoping to influence them…time will tell!

On trail design, do you take into account on how you extract an hurt rider?

Sounds amazing! I can’t wait to ride. I’m just wondering the new trails are on BLM land? The reason is because I just got done watching the Southern Nevada Trail Alliance and BLM say that we need to stop building unsanctioned trails but we can’t build any sanctioned trails without multi year impact studies. How do you guys get around this?

The Revenant Trail is on BLM land, and we are following their process. NEPA is a law they must follow as well as archaeology surveys etc. Though this trail center might seem to be popping up overnight, we’ve been working on this since 2016! Hence the name ‘Revenant’, meaning something brought back from the dead. We are also about to restart a trail project on Forest lands that we’ve been working on since 2018. Its is hard, but that is the process if you want great trails. Be diplomatic and tenacious. Good luck.
