I have read Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, and The Brothers Karamazov this year only. I’m not a bookworm or anything and I usually get sleepy on the first few paragraphs of a novel. But Dostoevsky invited me to St. Petersburg and now I’m an imaginary citizen of 1800 Russia. I recently bought Notes from the Underground but I haven’t started reading it yet along with The Village of Stepanchikovo and its Inhabitants. Now that I stumbled upon this, I’d probably read the notes after I watched this stellar performance. Thank you, my good sir. Best regards from the Philippines.
This play was performed at Yale Rep in 2009. I regret having missed it then. Thank you for finally giving me the oppourtunity to experience Notes from Underground.
WoW..I'm about a third of the way through reading Notes from Underground..the way you have lifted him off the page and brought him into existence right there is incredible...this must be on someones acting master-class curriculum somewhere surely.
This was incredible. It’s a sign of the times when something that required this amount of work and talent is not celebrated by more people. This could wake people up and change lives. People would much rather remain unconscious and delusional. In fact, nothing I’ve found is faster to enrage a friend or stranger than when I point out someone’s petty motivations for an action he or she believes is a virtuous one. Thanks for putting in all the work and I wish you’d tour the country doing this.

I had just started to reread the Notes when I stumbled on this brilliant performance by Larry Cedar. You have brought the character to life. Absolutely engrossing! Would love to see you act at the Sherry Theatre one day.
I was recently introduced to Dostoevsky and this is the first one that caught my attention. I’ve watched 5 times and I am an absolutely amazed! Brilliant performance thank u
This is awesome!!!! Stunned with the performance. I can easily sense the passion for this story from the performance. I read this book 3 years back and wrote a 20 page essay filled with my thoughts, opinions, and anecdotes. I had marked this play in my watch list long back but just had a chance to watch this completely. I too started doing small videos (mostly as monologues or one act play format) from literature short stories a couple of years back. I can imagine the amount of hard work behind this. I'm just glad that I watched this today without further delay. It gives me loads of inspiration to convert classic literature into one act play format. Larry Cedar, please let me know if you are visiting Germany anytime soon. I'm an Indian (short story writer in one of the Indian regional languages + budding theatre actor) but temporarily settled in Germany due to work. I would love to talk and know more about your journey :)
I am awestruck by the magnificence through which you brought the character to life. Great work sir. Incredible acting. Its is a quite complex book. Really made the book read much more easier after finished watching this. Thank you very much 🙏...
Larry, it's impossible to sufficiently describe how much my wife and I love your show. On Thursday of this week, I read the book. As a fellow actor who has also created and performed a one-man show, I was struck by the thought that someone may have attempted a one-man show of Underground since the book is a monologue. I whooped with glee when I found this video of your performance on TH-cam. So - on Thursday I read the book for the first time and was thunderstruck - Friday, last night, we watched your powerful performance . I wasn't sure if my wife would get into it, but she was instantly enthralled. I had given her a vague disclaimer about the text being rather existential in a general way. But she loved it. I loved it. From your first line, "I am a sick man - I am a spiteful man - I am an unattractive man" - I knew we would be watching something great. The simple decision of having those words come improvisationally to Fyodor's fictional stand-in grabbed me. I could instantly see this would be a spontaneous and unpredictable performance, and that the sardonic self-deprecating humor of the book would be on full display. And that's exactly what we saw. Never a disappointing moment. I was amazed every second by the continually brilliant acting and directing decisions. Thank you from the bottom of our theatre-loving hearts for the most worthwhile, pithy play we've seen in ages. Bravo infinity. --Randy Bowser author of KARLOFF the authorized one-man show about acting legend Boris Karloff
