What they are doing is planting cameras in neighborhoods trees trained on the affluent homes. Monitor the going/comings of that house...and then eventually rob the houses.
we had a neat thing happen.
Guy came to our door & asked for a ride. He seemed 'off' (not from around here) He wanted a ride to hospital, which is just down the street from us...he could have walked.
My husband gave him the ride as I checked cameras. He had dropped something before knocking. Turned out to be a brick and my husband said he was carring a hammer for "protection"
I was so scared while my husband was gone. Texted him about the brick.
It all was fine. But my husband took him to a car at hospital with other men...Why didnt they come pick him up?
found out that they knock int your door and you are not home they call their buddies & break in.
That whole cute little trip left me & my kids home alone.
We keep weapons at our doors now.

It is not uncommon for folks who have high end homes to have multiple residences, seasonally occupied, etc.

I totally agree to get rid of the waiver visa. They also travel from states to states to perform robberies. Most of them don't return to Chile, they staying illegally in the US, driving without license or insurance. Running illegal business out of their homes without license.

I'm Chilean. This is bringing a lot of shame onto us. It's a huge issue also, as Chileans don't want to lose their visa waiver status because of the actions of a few.

the OPEN BORDER policy allows them to stay an unlimited amount of time w/o any documentation

No more visas
Just the beginning of an unthinkable situation. It won't be only Chile. it will be many other countries as well. Once these incidences hit YT it's a free-for-all. These are not amateurs. Trained, often armed with guns, knives, machetes, clubs, etc. they will stop at nothing. Many of them have been released from prisons from other countries and sent here. They often do not work for themselves, but for the entities that released them, on certain conditions of what they would do once they got here. I imagine their continued freedom is contingent on this. As crime will continue to rise, like this or other kinds, it pays to find alternative locations for valuables that are not found in a home break in. These guys know all the places, so get creative.
As the famous poster says: "Theft is part of their culture!. They say the same thing about them in countries like Spain, France, Italy and others in Europe. The Spanish civil guard warns about "The Chilean package."

As a North American Chilean this annoys me and disgusts me. Chile needs to start doing the collateral structure they had years ago. You had to show asset ownership to travel abroad, especially USA.
