Gus G - sometimes seen with his younger brother Gus G minor.
Sometimes when he drives over a hole too hard he gets a Gus G flat
When the tow truck is late he asks "are you Gus G Phrygian me"
And the driver says "watch it young man your tone is a little Gus G sharp"
But he's a chill guy at heart so he decides to be Gus G Harmonic
And he says "you're right, I'm sorry, I Gus G Ionian one"

Rob, if you wanna do more picking from your thumb and fingers, try anchoring your pinky on your bridge pickup and keeping your right hand open - then start slow with big oval motions going from low to high towards the bridge pickup then high to low over that toward the neck pickup - use your wrist, your arm, the entire apparatus - to get a feel for it and memorize the motion a bit. From there it's just learning when to loosen up and when to tighten up as you go faster to not strain your fingers - gripping too tight gets you some nasty picks, so I recommend a pick that feels stiff against the strings and you don't have to squeeze super hard to keep a grip on.
I got into this because I picked up hybrid picking from you and do it enough that it's worth it for me to keep my fingers this way. It's kinda similar to fingerpicking in classical guitar, and great for accenting chords or double-stops with hybrid picking very easily.

which revv distortion pedal should i pick? i like the more aggressive tone of the g4 compared to g3, but people say g3 has more tighter sound and good for lead tones..i play lead guitar..i wanna sound like alexi laiho and gus g. 🙂

You can hear unplugged that Gus has a fairly high action, all the notes speak so clearly with no buzz. Consistent amongst many of my favorite players.

What advice would you give to someone who started playing 'late'
When i tell people i play guitar theres always an expectation that i must be amazing and started when i was a teen or something.
Just keep playing . im 39 and started when I was 14. I put it down off and on for years and broke my hand and had a brain injury so I'm nowhere as good as I was in my 20's. But I keep playing because it makes me happy and despite everything against me I've gotten way better in the past few years .I may never be the next gus g or rob Chapman but in my mine I'm just as happy as they are to play.most people won't be able to play any better than you so don't let it hold you back
Stupid question, modes Phrygian etc are just Diatonic scale, but played with root in different position, do they even count as different scales?
The Japanese scale is most likely the Hirajoshi scale
