It's not the weather, it's crazy people driving these cars in the winter and the nasty things they put on the roads that destroy these cars. I have a 1979 Pontiac Silver Anniversary the guy I got it from drove it as a winter car. It's all there, but the bottom of the body... I don;t understand the thinking , but I hope to be able to have the car rebuilt, using a rust free shell.

37:53 I agree, if he has all of the original tags and the parts are available it should be saved. I seriously doubt the guy has the money it would take to build the car though and they didn't even go there. I'd really like to see a rendering of what the car would look like in its original colours too. He claims to own the LLC and business is all about making money and keeping people employed, so if the guy has the money, they should do it, IMO. I'm not a dodge fan, but these cars had some great colour schemes> I like the t-shirt they wear too in the various colours, get rid of the black shirts and bring colour back into the world!

A Daytona Charger is a very rare, very valuable, highly desirable collector car today. It seems incredible to us but at one time it was just another old Dodge that wasn't worth fixing and it was discarded as Chrysler always intended it to be at the end of its serviceable life.

Nothing wrong with Mopar torsion bar suspension, but it does need to be set up "right", it has been said quite often with VH and VJ Chargers actually handle better than comparative Ford and GM cars, even the late Peter Brock said that the E49 Charger he drove actually handled better than his racing V8 VN Commodore.

37:30 Tribute cars, clones, tag transfer whatever. It is so easy in the automotive world...
Now lets look in the aviation world and look at some examples. A restoration recently of a recovered Hawker Hurricane fighter from a crash site meant only less than 30% of fittings were useable. Two of the latest restorations of the famed wooden twin engine de Havilland Mosquito were returned to the air with total replacement of every piece of wood (fuselage, wings, tail) Still original? There is only one original wood Mossie flying in the world. A company in the UK can build any or all the sheet metal of a Spitfire. Many P-51 Mustangs are considered original but they were completely torn down and rebuilt in the late '50s with whatever rebuilt part that was available at that moment. There are 2 Mustangs flying with the same serial number. Another Mustang has a North American Aviation (NAA) serial number but internally has structure mods specific to Australian-built machines. These are multi-million dollar machines, owned by billionaires.
Going from WW2 to WW1. The Spad fighter. An example was auction off from an east coast museum in the late '40s, nothing but fittings, and pieces for patterns. It was used in a 'restoration' and then the smaller pile of leftover bits were bought by a Californian and he found a serial number and now there are two B9913s. A UK collection has replaced the wood in their Bristol Fighter regularly to combat oil soaking and wood fatigue fracturing (and to preserve the original wood for patterns).
Film Director Peter Jackson has a love for WW1 aircraft. He has had built totally authentic engines for replica aircraft that no originals remain.
The question is if this machine is not 'restored' when its only 50 years old, what is going to happen in another 50 years when someone holding the tags and horn button and says "I want to restore my great Grand Daddy's Daytona?

  • @rockeroller

Wow,that Daytona needs a miracle. The only way to "save" that car, would be to take a talented welder/ body man, who would then have to weld a patch panel on the inner door, and reskin it. Then you'd have a Daytona door with like 30% orig metal. Ditto for the other door and the firewall. It appears there isn't much left. Would the Mopar community consider this a rebody after that?

The soul of that Charger was born at the factory. If any of is original DNA is there, its soul is still there. It came from the hands of the people (artisans) who designed and built it. Their hands built and put it all together. It deserves to be brought back. It is the true survivor, rode hard and put away wet, abused, trashed, smashed and dumped, yet it still is here in broken, battered, and rusted shape.
Futhermore, all the software for this car is known, its history and build sheet are available ( Original Engine Also?) I posit this "With just the Software of this car could you build it?" A group of original parts for a well documented rare machine of the Middle Ages have been discovered in cellar of an castle. These are the only known documented original parts of this machine. Would it be the original, if it was reconstructed. No. What it would be is an actual working model that originally came from the hands of creator artisans. Don't make into a dusty. rusty forgotten wall hanging. Make it into a working example that came from the original artisans who created it. They are very few of the original DNA cars left. Do not destroy this one. BRING IT BACK. After all you are Graveyard Cars. [ Note: AMD rebuilt a Dodge Daytona that did not have as much original DNA, no original engine, and none of the "Software". It shown at a SEMA show?] C J

There truly is a difference in intent to defraud or to save. Out of the 503, who's to say what I'd and what is not complete. I just don't understand the snobby attitude when it comes the this. I use, case in point the aftermarket front-end installed in the Cuda. You got "involved" in that so why the hesitation of doing a soulful restoration of a finite numbers of cars. The car could never be a true numbers matching, same birth Metal etc the one that was put into a zip lock bad the found 40 years later in a heated garage. Are you afraid the Mopar community would have issues? You tell your best friend to F off what are you afraid of with these people. God forbid the Chrysler museum doesn't burn down. All those vehicles that could never be restored back....because some one with some club they belong to says so. As a lover of Mopars it pains me to see such short sight. Hopefully that gentleman man and his Wife did find someone to build the Daytona. Unfortunately it won't be as good as it could have been.

I'd have fired the gamer on the spot! If he " needed "that laptop for gaming, he should have bought it with his own money! Gaming at work? Not going to fly, and I don't care how good at your job you are, buy something like that with my money, for your enjoyment while you screw off? YOU'RE FIRED! IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT, SO DON'T EVEN TRY COLLECTING UNEMPLOYMENT!

It is fraud & theft. Fraud for the deceit involving falsely spending the money. Theft for getting paid and using utilities while playing about on games when you should be working. Married a criminal car thief..... Is that a surprise?

People have this holier than thou attitude about machines....rebody the car....it's his numbers....ain't nuthin that wouldn't be done in sections if damage was a front end or a back end or a side crash into a pole...hell..the story is one thing...a running Daytona is another...and whomevers opinion is like ass's...or darens face....

      I think the point is
Its illegal in most country's to reshell a vehicle unless the shell is brand new. You can't cut the vin out of one car and replace it with another thats called ringing.
Second problem is if you reshell a car its no longer the original car. With the original shell even if you replace 80% of it, its still the original shell.
