      Couldn't agree more. (and I'm never partisan about commercial products.) Had a 42-litre Engel for 12 years, and it's never been 'on-the-road'. Always on a bush-block, working off a solar-panel and a battery, at 32 Watts and a timer.

    20 years on and the Engels is still working well. The only thing I had to replace was the battery for the lcd display $1.75. Can’t see myself swapping it for another brand

    I use my Engel 45l fridge for over 20 years. I use a ClearView Easy Slide. No issues what so ever, it never let me down. Extremely low power usage. Works in all temperature conditions. It's hooked up to my GoalZero 3000x battery so I never have to worry about enough power. So I have no need to consider other fridges or suppliers.

      But disappointing that something went wrong but that happens with every brand. Even Engels.
      For me if a company is willing to go to every effort to keep a customer happy then that speaks volumes about the product it self.

    This fridge has some good features, although I feel the whole being able to check the temp via an app on the phone is a bit of a gimmick to get ya sucked in as your gonna see the temp when you go grab another drink anyways hahah, having plugs on either side is an awesome idea tho.

    I bought what turned out to be a shit dual-zone fridge from Kings...
    Due to a tx valve fault of the fridge side, i lost $300 worth of meat in the freezer side...
    Thinking is was maybe a 12v supply issue on my vehicle, i took it off my work ute and plugged it into a 240v outlet.
    Two weeks later, i lost another load of meat.
    Then i did what i should have done in the first place and invested in another new Engel.
    That 60lt freezer has been on the back of my ute 12 months now, including all through last winter parked outside exposed to the rain and not a single issue.
    So before one compares prices to an Engel, think about what really is cheap, and what is not.

  • @338edge6

    Good review mate. I hope you don't regret it though....I don't trust all the electronic crap. My Waeco failed at lake Ayre full of meat, I'll never get another one of them. I have found Engel to be reliable but the insulation is light on for outback climate imho. The Trailblaza is the only fridge I really trust, they are bulky and heavy but by far the best fridge on the market.

Read the manual only works to 32C! Even with house battery over 12v, no issue with 240v which is strange for inverter setup. Anyway, just sharing my experience. Just coming out of Summer. So should be fine in my campervan, till next summer. 🙄

    Simple is best, Less Parts is best, Basic and manual operation is all that is needed.
    And that compressor noise would be a total FAIL if you were sleeping in vehicle.

      Australian 4x4 Adventures are the coolmans made in Australia? also the kickass fridges were designed and engineered by Australian fridge mechanic, the specs online seem superior, they're significantly cheaper and they have a 5 year warranty on the whole thing, not just the compressor, which is not some proprietary German design which may only be serviceable by themselves. I'd be willing to bet if you took you're fridge to a mechanic and said it's a "mycoolman" compressor they'd give ya a look but a danfoss compressor is a known cheaper and easier to work on unit. only difference I can see is they're a bit heavier(3-4Kg), but have an all steel construction.

    Dude..Ya sold your Engel ? Mate i hope it works out for you. I brought my 60l Engel Combo in 2001, it has lived in my GU ever since, it's has never missed a beat in 20 years . The reason i went with Engel was my Dad brought his 45L( Brown) Engel in 81 and it had never missed a beat either, it's still working 40 years later. When you're on big trip and you need to rely on your fridge there is only one choice imho. Ps. It will be the circuit board on that new one that fails... All the digital stuff and the blue tooth is the weak point that's the stuff that fails on dishwashers and washing machines after a few years.

    • @Lordoftheflatbush

    Sick to death of all this bullshit tech gear 1. Its always ends up stuffing up 2. Overcomplicated 3. Most of the time it's totally unnecessary for a fridge turn it on when you start your trip and off when you are back home what more do you really need.
    Had an Engel for 16yrs still going strong. When it does stop working. I will replace it with the newest Engel as it's proved itself as a great fridge. My Mate's Waeco shit itself in only 3yrs he now also has an Engel.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Power consumption. My old Engel was becoming very power hungry as it got older.
      Insulting property’s. The Engel was very in efficient compared to newer materials used.
      Overall size. Engel didn’t make the combination I was looking for. The ability to have one fridge and freezer of both of each was a big draw card for me.
      I’m not saying Engel arnt great because they are. But I personally wanted to try something new. I’m not asking you to sell your Engel that would be silly.
      But to think that some of the newer tech out there isn’t as good or even better then the older stuff isn’t entirely Correct.
      Only time will tell if the new brand is any good
      And yes. Weaco are shit and I’d never touch them.

      G'day James. Advice from an unbiased off-gridder of 60 years standing: Just bought one of these (Coolman) units partly because it was fairly cheap ($500 plus $100 for the 'insulation cover') and since then have been tying to determine who my worst enemy is so I can give him his first-ever christmas present from me! There MUST be better options; even a bucket of ice might be one. I've had a 12yo 42-litre Engel that does it all without any of the 'electronic' garbage and uses HALF the power of these 'modern' units.
      I paid $560 for it, quite a lot of money back then, and see them advertised currently for about $1000. (a couple of litres smaller: 38lt.) But even including the near-doubling of price, if my kid needed such a fridge I'd steer him to the Engel and even pay the difference for him, confident that a couple of decades from now he'd be doing the same for HIS kid. (or perhaps just passing on the unit he got from me) I've NEVER heard a bad-news story about the Engel unit. And no, I don't have shares in the company!😁

      I know a few ppl with the evakool fridges and they seem to work great. Personally I don’t like the look or interior design and layout of them but that comes down to personal preference and needs. But I haven’t heard any bad story’s about them.

  • @bmpradoadventures
    @bmpradoadventures 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    thats awesome dude. thanks for the review.
    Few questions if I may
    How thirsty is the fridge?
    how many Ah is your battery?
    I have the 60 litre evakool from super cheap. I love the layout but hate the draw. 200Ah, 250W solar, I can last maybe 2 days without starting the car.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks buddy I’m glad you liked it.
      Once the fridge is down to temp, on a moderate day 25-28c it seems to be using about 3amps per hr when cycling.
      That’s sitting inside my car with the windows up.
      I have 168 amps of battery in total AGM.
      I also have a 300watt solar panel on my roof which keeps everything topped up.
      In that setup as long as I get a little bit of sunlight during the day I can run the fridge indefinitely without having to start the car.
      The solar puts about 17amps into the battery’s per hr which far out does the 3 amp draw.
      Hopefully this helps.

      @Mi-ck 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those evacools are rubbish. They work as far as they cool things down but the power consumption is insane. I have a mate on his third set of batteries in two years, he’s constantly running out of juice even with the solar.
      I have a 40L Engel and a 41L Stirling from Aldi. Both run for weeks without starting the car with 200Ah and 200W solar.
      Will be interesting to see how this one goes. I like the layout and the size is good for a 100L.

    What batteries are you running that fridge on ?

  • @jedics1
    @jedics1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Might be a coincidence, might be yet another company including features we don't need using cheap electronics that are prone to failure ESPECIALLY when they are trying to compete in a space a company like Engel are in. They aren't even cheap, a business model only a mother could love!

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Company’s need to try and innovate and push boundaries on what’s possible. If they don’t then how are we meant to improve anything.
      Engel was an innovator of its time. It’s the exact same thing really.
      But unfortunately there is a lot of failure to go with the process.

    • @jedics1
      @jedics1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Australian4x4AdventuresSorry, what is the innovation here? A bluetooth app to change the temperature of your fridge? Or the fact that its made out of plastic?

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The innovation comes from the fact that MyCOOLMAN developed and designed all the parts themself. It’s not just rebrand like a lot of other fridges on the market.
      They made there own motors and a lot of other parts.
      They are one of the first to have a tool less door removal and re hinge on the other side.
      And plastic doesn’t rust 🤷🏿‍♂️ so I’m not against it. And it’s lighter.
      You don’t have to like the fridge that’s cool. But also don’t try and force me to hate it because you don’t like it.
      I’m not asking you to buy one.
      Hopefully this helps you understand where I’m coming from.

    Good video Engel & Waeco a bot like Holden & Ford.
    We've got Waeco CFX 50L fridges in the back of our work vehicles really happy with them would NEVER swap them for anything else, power wise CFX50 only using on average 1/2 an amp per hour.
    Have you got it connected to a secondary battery system, if so what sort.
    We use Giant 130Amp 12v Batteries powered by both solar & Australian Direct ( Kick Arse ) DC DC 25 Amp 3 stage charger

      Yes it’s all wired up through a second battery system. If you look through the build series part of my channel you’ll find the battery setup video. Hope this helps. 👍👍

      That's a bit ryde@CHeWythere's HEAPS of people out there using Waeco our company researched it to death before deciding to go with Waeco & we have not had any problems at all.
      Tell ,e what the power usage is of the Engel compared to Waeco & maybe you can back your post with some actual fscts.

    Awesome Review man...
    The MYCOOLMAN has this over my CFX95 WAECO:
    - Bluetooth instead of stupid shitty wifi connectivity
    - Door reversible without having to unscrew things
    - power on both sides!!!
    - that smaller compartment basket that allows tall things is brilliant
    - integrated handles instead of bolt on
    - integrated bottle opener...
    and the waeco seems to have nothing over the MYCOOLMAN.... really tempted to sell the CFX95 and get this now... will wait for your 6 month review.

      DOH! All the do-dahs in creation add NOTHING to the efficiency/longevity of the unit! Next you'll be telling us to buy a particular car because it has THREE wheels! I bought Engel all those years ago; plugged it in and turned the un-numbered knob about three-quarters of the way around. NOTHING has been changed, and it hasn't stopped working perfectly in over 12 years. The more electronics crap involved the more things can (and DO) go wrong, AND the less 'fixable' they are, especially when you're out in the boondocks with $500-worth od food going off! My Engel has NO "stupid/shitty" whatever-fi s; doesn't NEED reversible doors (doors ONLY need to open when required!). BUT does have 'intergrated handles', and my bottle-opener hangs on my keychain, so I AM pleased there's no fridge attached! If you're impressed with the brilliance of accommodting 'tall things' perhaps you should study the art of laying tall things on their sides; the VOLUME of whatever you load is the same, standing up or lying down!

    Engel good units however when are they going to make an electronic thermostat to control their units.How many guys go unto the high country this time of the year and have their fridge set on setting 5 or 6 as the ambient is 28 deg and then forget to to change it over night wake up in the morning with frozen milk happens all the time. Doesn't happen with many others with proper electronic thermos. Thats why I changed away from Engel.

      WEACO
      New Engels.
      Trail blazer
      National Luna.
      And a few others.

      @@Australian4x4Adventures i want to be able to run seperate fridge / freezer ( have 2 x 60lt waecos at the moment) i looked at the Mr Coolman last week and it didn't realy do it for me, not sure why. I have been looking at the national luna and was prepare to pay that bit extra. Was interested in what sold you

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cost had a fair amount to do with it. I pretty much got 2 fridges for the price of one national Luna fridge.
      Power consumption on the Luna was higher as well.
      I did consider going 2 separate fridges but then it took up more room and used more power again.
      Weaco just didn’t do it for me because I’d seen way to many horror story’s about them and looking at them closely they seemed a bit nasty and cheaply built.
      The Mycoolman didn’t tick all of the box’s but it ticked the most boxes.

      Fridge is going great guns.
      Been away in the Northern Territory for 2 weeks in 40+ degree weather and it handled it great. Freezer was set to -15 and didn’t move except when I left the rear door open and it was in full sun.
      Warmed up to -6.
      Super happy with it.
