- Blowing up a 2 stroke dirtbike Round 2. Once again my cousin blew up his diatribe and its on video so here it is! Rm125 bored out to a 144 pinned at the Whispering Pines MX track in Kamloops BC. Filmed on the GoPro Hero 3+.

Just got a 125 , can you explain engine breaking to me . Like is it just shifting down and not using your brakes ?
@@parkerpearce2295 pretty much, but also just not applying gas while going forward and slowing down that way is engine braking and not good for a two stroke.
But all you have to remember is that every time you're not on the gas, pull the clutch in and you're golden. Even while using the regular brakes, pull in the clutch.

@@halogod0298 It definitely is not a myth, it truly isn’t good for a two stroke to be engine braking. Always pull in the clutch while decelerating Og just in general are not on the gas. Just like Miika explained.
I will indeed agree that my heart also truly aches whenever he engine brakes.
I own a Derbi Senda 2 stroke 50cc bike because here in Denmark we can legally drive them as 15 years old. But I have never while I’ve had i engine braked.
Though one of my good buddies did it, and his cylinder seized after doing it a lot.
Because this isn’t good for a two stroke is because most two strokes are carbureted with mixed gas and oil. When you aren’t on the gas the carburetor isn’t feeding gas and oil to the engine, causing the engine to overheat and wear faster.

I'd say it blew up for 2 reasons:
1. You started it up then got straight onto the track and starting pinning it.
2. Everytime your mate was infront of you, you were riding directly in his dust clouds, your bike was probably breathing in alot of grit.
Thats assuming your engine was fine before. Maybe the piston was just long overdue.
Lean = engine can run to hot! = Blown engine = no riding = sad in the eye

He was keeping it in power band, good way to race but it costs lots of rebuilds, he should have shifted up on the straight aways but when you come out of a corner you loose speed, and if you are in power band then you can pick up speed fast.

get it to the pits, install new top end in like 20 minutes then get back to ripping around. 2 strokes are so easy to rebuild, i have no experience with rebuilding bikes but my first time rebuilding one took 53 minutes. that included a trip to the hardware store.
joe t he most likely cooked the main bearings. A bit more complicated than a top end.

RMs are very durable dirtbikes. Fresh premix & air filters keep them very happy .
the bike is running lean i can hear it... you should have had nuch more pre-mix in that bike and the things begging for a gear it has 6 why are you ringing it out in 3rd and 4th lol? are you scared to go faster than 50mph?

Adding more oil leans it out more, thats a jetting issue
More premix = less available gas to burn.

Key Word - SHIFT. No wonder it blew up. It was probably mixed 40 to 1 + not SHIFTING + reving the hell out of it = blown motor.

Could of rode around slowly for a couple minutes or do a couple slow laps, the piston will get bigger that the cylinder. I'd like to see the damage in the engine.

ok. just a tip, 2 strokes are good raceing bikes, but if u engine brake, ur bike will blow up! if u want to do engine brakeing then get a 4 stroke! but for my, ill rather have a 2, but maintaining them is just too much. oh by the way, im not gay because i ride a 4 stroke! IT DOESENT F***EN MATER IF U RIDE A 4 OR A 2!
Wrong, piston draws in a/f even when throttle is closed. If you're going fast enough at high enough rpm, the vaccum created can actually pull fuel from the main jet. Do you know how a VACCUM carb works?

I just blew up my rm 125 a few months ago I had to get the top end re sleeved a d new piston and rings but my motor didn't seize up it just had no compression

He's riding it like you would a mx bike on a mx track, you think people win races by babying their bike around it? We don't know the history of the bike, how long that piston has been in it, whether it was probably due for a top end rebuild etc. But neither the engine braking or his riding was wrong for a bike built for racing. Shit happens, that's a 2 stroke, all smiles one minute and repairs the next.

This is a good reason why 4 strokes are better he was only on the track for 8:46 before his motor blew i know 2 strokes are cheap and easy to rebuild but a 4 stroke could of went like 30 minutes then let it cool down then be ready for more laps
This bike probably just needed a rebuild and 2stroke can go the same amount of time as a 4stroke why would they not be able to?
It was running rough from the beginning did you not hear the scraping tard ? also he never let it warm up and he engine braked a lot 4 strokes suck and they sound gayer than a rainbow but if you like riding gays go for it

yep many mistakes, didn't warm up, didn't use cluts, sounds like didn't change gears. when reving engine and engine brakes the slide goes down carburators and blocking the main jet when the engine does not receive the amount of the planned high gasoline at rpm so one place where it can get gas is idling jet and how much you have rpm when idling?? around 800-1000rpm and why cause planed the rpm stays in that amount of rpm..... never had anyting plow up
