2. I’d go further and say we need a term like ‘mid-tier group’ to buffer popular and nugu groups. Dreamcatcher and clc have been called nugu which !??!!? They aren’t/weren’t the biggest groups but they have seen some success. There are less popular groups that would kill for their success. 5. Really depends on the song. Monsta x’s english full is a rare hit for English songs but for the most part they’re meh. Also cravity’s discography is…a lot of things but lately its been excellent
@ I think Monsta X’s you problem album (I forgot what it’s called) is great and shows the potential of what English kpop could be despite the insufferable short duration. Sad to see it’s an outlier and not the trend.
I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but I wanna add that album sales does not mean an album is better than lesser selling albums or I don’t think just because an album has 6 million sales means it should win album of the year. I personally think judging should go based on creativity and the artistry more.
so true like album of the year, at least if you ask me, should go to the most culturally significant releases, the ones that dominated society at least when they came out and almost every year that isn't the best selling album. I think the last time Album of the Year (at least at the MAMAs) went to a truly cultural juggernaut was probably when BTS won in 2019
@ I agree which is why I prefer the melon awards over the mamas but even then, they're not extremely that much different but at least they're not like "hey! 5-6 millions sales so they deserve this award." I think the daesangs are so predictable now and besides aespa winning this year for soty, everything else was so disappointing. It's really frustrating watching award shows now knowing I can predict the winners before the award show even airs.

@@luvelty a lot of groups now either use awful demo lyrics and/or a weird out of place western feature and 90% of the time it’ll ruin the song
@ the over the moon English cover 🫠🫠🫠 they could’ve easily written a different second pre chorus to add more depth, it grinds my gears
