    That's amazing. You were able to test the function of the window after the regulator was installed with the battery still disconnected!

    GREAT VIDEO, Im a 49 yr old women that just changed out my first regulator and motor. I have watch many videos, and yours was the BEST and u made it look so easy. The only thing I had an issue with was getting the regulator clip hook to the window. But I figure it out. Thanks so much for these awesome videos. Kelly from Indiana

    The instructions that came with the regulator were iffy at best. These instructions were excellent. Anyone can do this project with a little patience. The job took me about two hours as I was having to go back to the video to make sure I was doing job correctly. The regulator was $60 at O'Rileys auto parts. 2005 Town and Country.

    Thanks guys. I replaced the window regulator in my 2007 Chrysler Town and Country and followed your instructions step by step and had it replaced in about an hour or so. The only thing I would caution anyone on is the new regulator had some really sharp edges, and I cut the heck out of my fingers. So, my advice is to wear gloves while positioning the new regulator into place. The new regulator and motor works great and I saved a ton of money. I am now going to replace the replace the regulator and motor in my 1998 Ford F-150. Thanks, A1 Auto, I will always buy all of my vehicle parts from your company.

    I followed this video step by step and while I am sure it took me a little longer than it took your mechanic, I was able to replace the motor with regulator correctly on the first attempt. That is amazing because I have about zero mechanical or electric skills. This video saved me probably at least $200 or $300. Thanks so much 1A Auto!!!!

    Thanks for the help. Loved seeing you wrestle the rivets and front rail in place. My daughter's window dropped down while she was working. I took the door panel off wedged two apple tree branches in under the window to hold it up, and Zip tied them in place until I can get a new regulator. Shade tree mechanics at its best.

    Thank you for the tutorial. My window dropped down inside of the door and I followed your steps faithfully to fix it. The motor and regulator were fine. What happened was that the window clips had fallen off of the regulator. They were not damaged and slipped back on with no problem. The biggest PITA was getting the door panel back on. I did not seat it right against the window and about drove myself crazy banging on the mo-fo. I came back and re-watched that part of the tutorial and got it right. The window works fine now. Thanks again!

      David, this has happened to me on my T&C lx year 2000. Have NO natural repair skills, does this video give complete visual directions to this?

    • @renwallis
      @renwallis 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David, I think this is the problem I am having with my driver's window, There feels like there is some play in the switch. Sometimes if the window goes all the way down it won't go back up. If I keep trying it eventually goes up. I try to remember not to open it or open it all the way down. Once you popped off the part that holds the window clips, how did you figure out the clip had fallen off the regulator? It looks like there is a box behind those clips. Did you just take that off? I haven't tried it yet so I'm a little afraid to. There is no problem with the passenger switch on that same part, just the driver's side. Could you let me know how you were able to get the clip back on the regulator?

    • @HolyBrainBible
      @HolyBrainBible 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@renwallis you have the exact same problem that I have.. whenever the switch takes the window all the way down to the bottom, the window wouldn't move up.. sometimes playing around with this which would cause it to move back up.. finally it just stayed down and won't go back period. did you ever get your window fixed and what was the problem?

    Thanks to the 1A Auto Parts video I changed my window regulator with only minor difficulty as our 2005 had a few hex head bolts instead of T30's. I removed the plastic rivets in seconds with a sharp wood chisel and a tap with the hammer. I broke the old plastic fitting connecting the lock rod, but have it jury rigged with duct tape, as all we have now are plastic coat hangers.

    This video was a real help.
    Some tips:
    * A small flat pry bar will help lift out those plastic rivets in a hurry. Put a flat putty knife under it to protect any paint. Your replacement regulator will undoubtably have a bolt or pressed-in stud to replace the rivets. You wouldn’t want to try to reuse them anyway

    Did driver’s side today, spent 15 min on 2-screwdriver method w/out success. Wound up using 1- lg screwdriver to pry them off. The supplied washers fit over the expanded holes and flattened the sheet metal when tightened. Also, removing and installing the regulator struts was difficult, I could only remove the rear last and had to install it first. Be sure to get the struts on the inside of the window, I was so excited to get them inside that I didn’t check that and had to undo the bottom bolts again to make that happen. Hopefully the passenger side will take less time. This is a great tutorial.

    Mike - Great video. I watched it a number of times and that gave me the confidence to replace the window regulator myself. I ordered the part and followed your steps watching the video as I went through the process. You got the old one out much easier than I did, but I persevered and eventually I got it out. The whole thing took me about 1 1/2 - 2 hours including prepping the area and cleaning up when I was done. I was able to save a bunch of money doing this myself and I thank you.

    Just used this tutorial to fix my power window. Great help thanks 👍 I checked other tutorials for the motor first, running straight power to the motor and cleaning the brushes didn't work. So I bought the complete new kit with motor and regulator attached. Then just had to watch the clip again to work out how to get the old regulator out and then to get the new one back in. If anyone has to use force your doing it wrong lol.

    This video was a real help.
    * If your window is still working I’d suggest you move it first to a position where you can loosen the window clamps. Then slide the window up and tape it out of the way.

    This video was a real help.
    Some tips:
    * You’re going to be working in a space and with parts that have sharp edges. Do yourself a favor and wear a long sleeve shirt and some gloves. A flannel shirt and cotton gloves are fine.

    This video was a real help.
    Some tips:
    * You may want to exercise more caution than I did, but since the window requires the ignition switch to be turned on to work I did not remove the battery cable. There are still some hot wires in there so go with your comfort level.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It may be a similar process. You may want to test the wire to see if there's power going to the motor when the switch is pressed.

    Excellent video 👍🏽
    Thank you very much 1A Auto. Don't know what else to say but I really do appreciate it.
    1) no random babbling
    2) fast forward kept video short
    3) audio was mostly clear
    - a bit muffled in some parts
    - speak over parts were clear
    4) fairly easy to see what you were doing
    - could have used zoom a bit more to see a few things better
    - showed enough detail to do the job

    I drilled out the white plastic clips instead of carefully removing them and replaced them with a bolt, a small washer that goes on the motor and a bigger one to go on the inside of the door, and a nylock nut. Everything I used was 10mm and I even wrote that on the inside of the door with permanent marker. Now in the future, there's no battling those clips.

    I followed this video to replace the motor/regulator in a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. (Full disclosure: I bought the replacement unit on eBay, not from 1A Auto.) Took me about two hours, works fine now. Some tips:
    1. Don't try to salvage the plastic rivets that hold the window motor in place, you won't be using them again anyway. Just cut them off from the back side. My replacement unit came with machine screws and nuts, very easy to install.
    2. Use duct tape or Gorilla tape or something sticky and strong like that to hold the glass in place after detaching it from the mechanism. I used blue painter's tape as shown in the video and after a few minutes it let go unexpectedly. Fortunately the glass did not break.
    3. The hardest part of the whole job for me was getting the original unit out. I finally did it by removing the front runner first, then the back. Installation of the new unit is the reverse of that. Be careful not to kink the cables.
    Good luck! And thanks also to 1A Auto for making this video!

    Im currently replacing one on my 2001 Town Country Limited....some things Ive found out - I stripped the head on two of the four Torx bolts holding in the regulator rails and had to get replacements from an auto store and drill them out. They were so tight, unbelievably tight so I advise some loosener sprayed on the backside first. Thanks for the video, its been a big help!

    What you should do is test the connection to make sure you are getting power to the window regulator when you press the down or up button. As long as you always get power, then the issue will be related to the window motor.

    Well done, thanks. They could certainly have made these a lot easier to remove and install. Parts very difficult to cram out and in, and the door panel itself very difficult to slip over everything and connect the door latch. The only reason to disconnect the battery is to prevent draining it. I aligned the window clamps with the vehicle running because there was only one hole on the left that was workable to get at what was a 10mm hex for my replacement.

    bought the part from 1A and installed today, I didn't bother trying to pop those plastic tabs holding the motor I just cut them with off with my rotary tool and pushed what was left thru since the new complete assembly came with the bolts you wont need them! had to re-watch the removal of the assembly from the door its a little tight but does come out with some gentle persuasion :) also the original screws holding regulator arms in (the one that you just loosing the bottom and remove the top) were in there really tight the top right one on mine was so tight it started to strip a little I tried some pb blaster but it still wouldn't budge, I ended up having to heat it up with a torch a little bit after that it came right out! you do not want to strip these screws it will ruin your whole day :) awesome video part was about $65 I think and doing it myself gave me a great feeling of accomplishment and even better saved me probably a couple hundred bucks! installed in a 2006 town & country!

      If it's just the motor that's bad do you still have to remove the entire regulator?

    This video was very helpful. I am at the most a light mechanic, and was a bit intimidated by trying this. These directions worked for my 2001 Dodge Dakota. I was able to buy the part for under a $100, regulator arm and motor at O'Reilly Auto Parts. The job was easy, everything fit right in there. I need to still put the door back together, but first must finish my beer that I am drinking celebrating my victory over the window regulator.

    You may want to check the window regulator and the window motor to see if they have gone bad.

    An easier way to remove rivets is to take a small pair of adjustable pliers, open to larger grip and reach in and squeeze rivets so your on each claw, Bam right out. I got all three out in 30 seconds.

    Great video! Helped me determine that I only needed to replace the motor and not the entire regulator. Thanks for all the insight guys. I did however notice that you forgot to replace the red locking clip/pin in the control panel plug. Hope it doesn't work loose. lol I hate pulling those clipped panels more than the rest of it. :D

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The issue could either be with the motor malfunctioning or it could be with a frayed wire. Opening up the door panel will be the best bet at this point.

    I just bought a window regulator kit and it came with new rivets or if you are going to use bolts then just go on the inside with a side cutter and cut the end of the rivets off. After you remove everything you can take the rivet keepers out real easy. Replace with bolts or rivets.

    * I had to chuckle when I saw all the blue tape holding the water shield in place. Don’t put the door back together that way. Grab your heat gun or hair dryer and warm up the edges of the black shield real good in small steps, and smooth it back against the door with a shop rag. You’ll feel like you did a professional job that way. And you did! :-)

    The window motor isn't serviceable on this particular window regulator. You would need to replace the regulator.

    On those rivets, a chisel and hammer works in about, oh IDK, 25 seconds. Chisel off the heads them remove rest once regulater is out of way.

    I just swapped out a motor in my father in laws 2005 dodge caravan. One trick I used for the plastic rivets is to reach into the door with a pair of sturdy wire cutters and cut the end off the back of the plastic rivet. Then they slide out and once the center pin is out you can reach the tabs in the base to get that out super easily.
    The new motor came with new plastic rivets anyhow and the part per the video that 1A Auto sells comes with new hardware as well... so I didn't care about destroying the old ones to make their removal a 2 minute job vs a 10-15 minute job.

    Thanks for the video! I have an '04 Grand Caravan, and I will be replacing the motor & regulator assembly. My driver window is stuck up. It was closing slowly for a while before it just stopped working. I figured it would be best to just replace the whole assembly at once, so I will be done with it, and not worry which one is bad.
    P.S.- I hate those plastic clip fasteners!!! Remember when they made things out of metal?

    Great video. Parts went in and out just like you said. No sense fighting with the motor clips if you have the replacement bolts. Just snip the tips off from the back and its out in a minute. Also, sort of a silly point but worth mentioning: before getting concerned about a dud replacement motor, remember that the key needs to be all the way forward to power the windows...

    Any suggestions as to what size bolts to use to hold the motor to the frame instead of using plastic rivets ? Also, would it make sense to insert the bolts from the inside ? You would have to use hex-head bolts and then hold the head in place with a box or open end wrench.

    Hi Mike!, Great video's very helpful and very unselfish of you to share your knowledge and skill, most appreciated! So, I have a 2003 Town&Country a few issues: Power steering is making noise and vibrating when I turn the wheel..? Also the fan belt has started to squeal on start up... I imagine it has dried out...? And the driver side cargo door auto lock is not working? And, yes I know quite a few things another issue is oil filter mount seal is leaking...? Thanks in advance!

    Great video. Thanks. I found an easier way to remove those pesky plastic rivets. After turning them to a convenient spot use a pair of channel lock pliers and pinch both ears from behind while prying with a flat blade screwdriver from the front. They come right out. And since I wasn't reusing the regulator I pried on that instead of the thin edge of the rivet. Easy peasy.

    Awesome video, made removing and replacing the assembly VERY easy. Earlier today my window made a grinding noise when I tried putting the window down, and it wouldn't move. However, after I installed the whole assembly, I plugged in the control panel and tried moving the window up and down, and nothing is happening. The other windows work though. I unplugged and replugged everything in. Is there some kind of "reset" or something I was supposed to perform but didn't?
