A smart man asked me once how to identify a great leader. After multiple attempts, he stopped me and told me it was very simple. Look at the followers.
And what makes good followers? Do they simply follow their orders without question? No. They understand the reasoning of the orders, and they know how to execute them as best as they can with what they have. And the person who teaches them this, and knows how to harness their ability as best as they can, is their leader.
We gotta blow up the comments on the JoeRoganExperience and push to get our boy John on there. The conversation would be amazing and John would get a lot of exposure.
Hey bro, there's something kinda I can't put my finger on w/Kyle. I spent a lot of trigger time taking some fundamentals w/him years and years ago before Viking took off, THE GUY CRACKED US UP and the "high speed"HRT (they were so underestimated too on shoot-on-the-move work) guys and I just ate w/him & he reminds me of the actor who played the original Lion in Wizard of Oz (the original!! do you see it? lmao!)
My first DI in 1966, Sgt Ludwig. He squared my ass away by being the most squared away man I'd ever met. He's been a touchstone for me my whole life. I've tried to show my respect by paying it forward.
Just seeing this. WAIT! Almost 25 minutes with two former special operations guys and ZERO profanities/vulgarities?!?!? Wow. It CAN be done. Refreshing. Thanks, gentlemen...
*KYLE!!! You were more than just great leadership. Before VTAC's soaring into the stratos, MY GOD, you must take ANY primary or sidearm courses (first timer to advanced, he's fun, BEYOND patient...we had high speed HRT guys who would get tripped up, & he had all of us performing at similar proficiencies getting that follow up w/front sight focus etc etc while moving laterally etc)....Sorry, not trying to kiss ass by plugging his program, I've spent too many countless hours talking to this total icon of humility (albeit, I'm sure I annoyed the living shit out of the poor guy and he never gives up and does that "oh geez...look at the time")*
Loved this! Two guys who are serious, but don't take themselves seriously and confident to appear goofy. Love it. This is really the best of Be All You Can Be when you hear these guys talking about strengths and weaknesses.
Some more good advice - Apply what you are and what you know to business. Its difficult to undo who you are. I served two years compulsory conscription in the SADF '85 to '86. I grew up hunting and firearms are as natural to me as the fingers on my hand. I pursued a career as a professional hunting guide from '87. Specialized in tracking problem leopard with hounds - till 2009 and that was stopped by an out right ban on use of hounds to track leopard. My life has been a bit of a disorganized affair - like I lost my identity , a source of income I depended on and a life I was devoted to. I'm trying to find my feet in a world I do not know. This clip has helped me. Thanks John and Kyle. AND Kyle I'll be disappointed if you come hunting in South Africa again and do not get a chance to meet you. Just observed some items that make me think you have been here or in Namibia before.

I'm 26 going on 27. My dad passed away 2 years ago this Christmas. I moved up to Wisconsin from south Florida with my mother and my dog for a good change. Things aren't really what I imagined they would be. More and more I've been considering enlisting. The structure, feeling of family and brotherhood is something that seems to be missing. Everything this channel talks about is very relate-able. I have been considering Army or Marine corps. Thank ya'll for your service.
@@romanzlatov1856 Well I have a stable job. Besides that my mother passed away this past April due to sudden complications, my dog I had to give up and have adopted, and my now (ex) girlfriend moved out 2 weeks ago. So not so well..
Really great to see the rapport between you guys! And America is in a CRISIS due to poor leadership. Why? because being a leader is hard and takes work. And men are no longer encouraged to be brave, tough and to take charge. So Kyle and john, I remind you that there are far too many young men growing up without a father in the house...and those young guys look to men like you to fill that void in their life and in their soul. I know those are big shoes to fill, but I have full faith and confidence in you and I only wish there were 1,000,000 more like you.
Thank you. I like the way Vikings fight - fighting stance, etc. No fancy stuff just fight, not so much competitive shooting, just fighting under threat of your life. You fight a lot differently - and you make imperfections in the fray . . . Good to see Kyle Lamb on your show. He teaches that. Leadership: I like leaders who work and do their share. Just their share is all I ask of a leader. I will do the rest. But very difficult to work for person who you have to do all the work. And thinking? . . . Well you have to get lucky there. A leader who thinks is rare. Great job guys. PS Kyle Lamb likes the AR for home defense like you do Command Sgt. Major! Godspeed
My word is "Integrity". It comes from the root word integer, which means whole or complete. Integers are whole numbers (1, 2, 3... ), they lack nothing nor have anything extra. They are complete! A person with integrity is whole or complete. Their character lacks nothing that is good and desirable in a person. At the same time, their character does not have traits that are detrimental to themselves or others. Integrity encompasses all the things we should strive for in our lives. Things like, honesty, strength, fortitude, compassion, kindness, fairness, and the list goes on. This world needs more men with integrity. Men who will do right, no matter what.

Kyle Lamb, what a cool interview. as a drama student, performing you always have to be nervous before you perform and use the adrenalin awesome. if your not nervous time is up
I just took my handgun course yesterday. I've shot them before on the range with a buddy and it was cool, did all kindsa things right, but totally melted in class for some reason. Still passed, got 90 on the written test and also 90 on the practical as well, but for some reason it wasn't that easy in class as it is on the range.
America is starving for leadership today. I happen to think as GWOT vets, we need to take the reigns because the average American knows very little about leadership. That's not to say they're lesser people, it's just that military emphasizes leadership to the nines because people can die if we fail.
*COULD NOT AGREE MORE...NOT A VET, LET ALONE A FMR SOF TYPE, BUT DOING EAGLE SCOUTS, WORKING PSD W/TITAN AMONG SOME QUASI HEAVIER PIPHITTING "TYPES" OF FMR ARSOF AND NSW OLD SALTS? THERE WERE LEADERS I WOULD VOTE FOR IF THEY RAN FOR OFFICE. What ever happened to Ryan Zinke and that super old school Green veteran who was a Unit officer (not Blaber, but a name just as known) who ran for office in NC and then almost made it to a main ballet?*
Enjoyable to watch as always. If I ever decide to get one of those silly USPSA jerseys, I am going to put the Warrior Poet Society logo on it, with John's permission of course. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite youtube channels to watch.
Awesome.Awesome. Awesome. Some really great gems on what it takes to be a good leader. The biggest one IMO was a leader takes the time to learn how to motivate each individual effectively. While not a leader myself, I've always gain respect quicker for leaders who took time to "learn me" and how best to work with me. You two looked like you were having way too much fun. It was very entertaining watching the comradery between you guys.
This is a great video. I liked the insight that was given. I could really relate to the things you and Kyle were talking about when it comes to instructors, being an instructor myself. Keep up the good work.

John, I subscribed to you, just found about you a week ago. I am learning so much from you, watching all of your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Kyle Lamb, what a cool interview. as a drama student, performing you always have to be nervous before you perform and use the adrenalin awesome. if your not nervous time is up
This was great! Hopefully you taped at least an hour or more content and you'll be showing this in several parts......... thank you!
Wow, two hero's showing us all they can be regular guys drinking coffee. This took me back to the time you said don't be that guy, thank you.
Hearing these guys talk about being afraid to quit makes me wonder what life would have been like if I had respected authority as a young man.
So awesome, man. I hesitated at first, but then decided to watch, and I'm so glad I did.
Your interviews are great. Top notch.
good stuff
Watching this great conversation between heroes makes me wonder what is on Kyle’s bookcase and what is on John’s bookcase? Can you do a video on that?
Keyword for leadership in my opinion is “Trust”.
Love this. John, you seem like such an awesome dude. I hope one day I get you meet and train with you.
Probably my favorite interview of yours so far! Great rapport between you two! Like sitting around talking with my soldiers when I was in.
This - - is a terrific interview. Kyle is always good but you really brought out.
John you do definitely look like a badass soldier!
Much respect for both of these guys; putting it all on the line for us and our country and now sharing so we can improve.
Awesome video. I love when you guys just chat & the wisdom flows out naturally.
I think this is my favorite episode lol. You guys need to do more videos! Entertaining and very informative!
Yup great lesson! Always give someone a path forwards.
Best video so far! Learning and laughing at the same time!
kyle should do more vids like this!!!
Lead by example! Care about people.
This guy is awesome
SUPER cool interviews... I just wish I used ear protection when I was younger so that I could hear them...
I would love to see John on jre or jocko podcast
I wish I could have heard this interview.
Enjoyable to watch as always. If I ever decide to get one of those silly USPSA jerseys, I am going to put the Warrior Poet Society logo on it, with John's permission of course. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite youtube channels to watch.
the intro to the video got me crached up
Lamb an Howe. Great on leadership.
Thanks!
LOL. "he's teaching me about...me" Good stuff man, great interview.
That was good thank you to both of you.
Fantastic, you guys. Really great insights and advice.
Had the pleasure of getting the shit smoked out me by CSM Lamb. Several times.
+WickedSensation haha
Thanks for sharing this it was awesome!!!
He's right John - you *didn't* pull away ..
This is a great video. I liked the insight that was given. I could really relate to the things you and Kyle were talking about when it comes to instructors, being an instructor myself. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic Video! Thank You for sharing this.
That opening was great
