This isn't your usual home tour video talking about stainless steel appliances, and how many marble counter tops are in the home. This is a home tour that tells the stories of the subject, and how their history, culture, career, and life has influenced the design of their home.
I met JP through a mutual friend from Hawaii many years ago at a magazine party. We got along immediately due to our mutual love for the arts. As we started to hang out more, I learned about his many talents. Besides being an Art Director, he's an incredible photographer, surfer, painter, outdoorsman, proud Filipino, and much more. I just knew his home was going to be full of interesting stories behind each item! This home tour has everything from how his Uncle who is a Native American Comanche influenced his love for everything western, and the outdoors, to his record collection, the things that keep him inspired, culturally significant items, and much more
    0:00 Home Tour Introduction
    0:53 Western Inspiration
2:26 New York City as a Surf Destination
3:13 What I have instead of a TV
    4:54 Filipino Ketchup
    5:29 Delta Blues
    6:28 Journaling
    8:28 Cultural Items
10:15 A typewriter doesn't make me a random hipster in Brooklyn
If you enjoyed the video, please like and consider subscribing for more future content like this. I would also love to hear from you in the comments. It can be anything from a simple hello, to your own personal home design stories, or what you would like to see more of in the future.

That's my cousin! Great work capturing his space, Mitch. Joelyn and I are the same age and we all grew up together with our other cousins. I got very emotional listening to him speak about our beloved Uncle Lupe and seeing the old photos he shared, because he really was our grandpa-figure as ours his dad's/my mom's side passed before any of us were born. Loved seeing a photo with my brother in it too, the way this was shot and put together really showcased the essence of his stories, and this all felt so nostalgic to someone who grew up with him. I am very proud of Joelyn and his accomplishments, and the man he has become. I also am proud of him for always including his culture because it's something that stays with us through adulthood and our entire lives. Thank you for your work making this, it will be something we will continue to share with our family for a very long time.

What a lovely home. It's the kind of place I always look for on airbnb and is nowhere near as commonly stumbled upon as one might hope. It's got everything; style, character, aesthetically apparent intellectual curiosity of the owner and an easy unpretentious comfortable atmosphere to welcome guests. Great use of not a great amount of space. Thanks for the upload Mitch.

What an amazing capture of multiculturalism, family history, and deeply meaningful possessions. I love the intentional connection to the pre-digital era (no tv, typewriter, written letters, and record player). I also admire the homeowner’s love for art making and the outdoors. I loved this. Thank you. ❤️

Is filled, but at the same time has a sense of space, and story. I also love that you gave photo credit to the photographer who took the photos of him surfing, and others as well. Harmonica playing at the end was a bonus! So enjoyable and well done.

He is surrounded by all the things that remind him of how and where he grew up. He has a very strong bond with his uncle. I love this handsome young man and his lovely well modulated voice talking about this space, and giving us so much personality depth and history regarding the objects that create this warm bird’s nest. He should do more work in front of the camera just because of his presence and the tones of his voice. I wonder if he is a singer also.

I just have to comment aside from your interesting/eclectic place I am blown away and intrigued by the background of what makes you, who You are. I can relate from the standpoint that I am a Black American raised by a divorced mom who instilled in me and my siblings a love for all types of cultures heavily influenced by country western and old fashioned blues and jazz then fast forward to adulthood, I marry a country boy from North Carolina whose favorite genre was metal and rock & roll. Who knew, there is surfing in NY!!!
