Speaking to Ariana and Cynthia about Wicked was a dream come true. As a massive fan of the original production, this was an ultimate fanboy experience for me. They are both so sweet, so kind, and so proud of their work. It was an honour to do this interview. I hope you enjoy!
That was a really wonderful interview. Thank you for your good energy and also I have to say that I really like how you allow your personality shine through. Really great interview ✨️ 👏🏻
I feel like many people just haven't experienced a true friendship that's gone through a life-changing experience together (i.e., Wicked) done with love and passion - these two women are secure in their emotions and are constantly sitting in them during this press tour. They're incredibly happy and fulfilled - of course they're crying all the time! They're expressing themselves in a very freeing and healthy way, in my opinion. They're all happy tears. It's actually been admirable to watch.
@@MJ-py7dmIs it so hard to believe that they might be fulfilled with their roles and that they are happy having these roles? Not everything you see is fake and some sort of scheme to trick you into buying something
@ yeah sure. Then why do they only behave this way when they’re trying to promote a movie ? I work in marketing since 6 years, trust me, it’s all to sell you something, no doubt in my mind. These two weren’t hanging out together before and they won’t after. Be naive all you want sugar 🥱
I totally get the crying. Especially for people who grew up with this piece it’s very emotional for a lot of people who needed it at a particular time in their lives. I haven’t listened to the album in full in years and I feel like with this press tour I’m having a moment with my twelve year old self again in the best way.
@@moonlightbaby4653 This- the people shaming them for crying would be shaming them for literally any other reaction they had. Some people are filled with so much hatred and the internet fuels it even more- its so toxic.

@@leinlad I remember what you said and it’s honestly disgusting you seriously need help I mean you’d be ok breaking up a family Yuck. You are literally talking about yourself in this comment. Do something positive with your life instead of enjoying destroying people. Unbelievable
I really can’t get behind the hate they’re getting. I feel like the crying especially is really valid. Both of them seem to have such a huge attachment to not only Wicked but musicals in general. It seems like such a huge responsibility and honor to take on Elphaba and Glinda, and I think both Ariana and Cynthia are handling it as such.
There’s something about Ariana that, even with her soft styling and light hair and makeup, gives off an almost intimidating, boss-like energy. She commands a room without even saying anything, and even when she speaks in her soft voice, there is a certain authority to her.
I've cried just as much if not twice as more the last few years because of how proud I am. I see it tonight but you can tell this movie is going to be one of the best
people are so miserable they're making think pieces about them in the comment sections of "gossip" videos (i clicked, looked at the comments and didnt watch the video). i don't think they realize just how unhinged they are and how terrible it actually is for their own soul to be dedicating so much energy to hating on someone.

I really can't blame these two for being so emotional, and im honestly grateful to them for showing us how they feel. I haven't seen Wicked yet, but just hearing Cynthia singing Defying Gravity made me bawl my eyes out, im looking forward to watching, and i know i'm going to cry.
I love Cynthia's riffs. They're just gorgeous. In the stage show, all of the Elphabas sing their songs differently. The only rule with Defying Gravity's final riff is that it ends on a C#5. Other than that, the Elphabas can do whatever the hell they want with the final riff. Also, when watching the movie, and hearing Erivo's version of The Wizard and I, and I just LOVE that she does the opt up during the ending belt. This same opt up has been done by Elphabas since after 2004, when the opt up was made popular by former Broadway Elphaba, Eden Espinosa.
Oh belive me I WISH mine could have been longer. I had millions more questions ready to ask. Sadly they only gave me 8 min for our full chat, so out of my control. But I know others who only had 4-5 min with them so grateful to even have that long! But believe me, agreed 🙏🏼
I bawled during the ball scene, and then again for the last 20 minutes of the film. Defying gravity brought me to an emotional space I did not expect. Cynthia and Ariana have a chemistry that is undefinable and stratospheric. Defying Gravity was epic. The best, most powerful 20 minutes of film I have ever experienced.
I saw Wicked last Saturday but caved in and listened to the soundtrack Friday (I had already seen the Broadway show so it didn’t spoil it that much for me) and what Cynthia did in Defying Gravity had me sobbing while I was getting ready for work. She hits a totally different set of emotions when she sings.
Ariana nailed the feeling I had during Defying Gravity. Cynthia was restrained vocally as we headed toward DG. You could feel her navigating Elphaba's journey with care not to own too much. During DG, when she steps into her truth, her power, you notice it. The vocal command is transformed and empowered in a way we had not encountered. I didn't realize until hearing Ari say this, that it was intentional. Felt so organic.
I'm not a cryer, but I cried twice at this movie and never had at the play, but I think it's because on stage you can't really make out the emotions on their faces, but Ariana and Cynthia killed it with their emotions! I know I'm going to ugly cry during part 2! I'm taking tissues...
