The poster in the attic when they’re hiding from the guards before defying gravity, depicts the wizard in his carnival days stating his name is Oscar Diggs. Oscar Diggs was the name of James Franco’s wizard in Oz the great and powerful.
The Wizard’s full name is Oscar Zoroaster Phadric Isaac Norman Henkel Emmanuel Ambrose Diggs, Oz for short. His initials after Oz spell Pinhead, which is how I remember it.
The scene when Galinda gives Elphaba the flower and tells her “you’re beautiful” and when they dance together at the Ozdust ballroom had me WEEPING. It was so beautiful
Very first shot of Boq he’s positioned and “stuck” like the Tin Man. He also has a red handkerchief later in the movie and admits he cries a lot - Tin Man cried in Wiz of Oz Fiyero also first starts walking like the Scarecrow if you watch his legs Nessa wears red stripes socks and also her dress is red and white Also - Did you catch Elphaba’s wicked witch laugh when she scares Glinda??

This movie was a genuinely great and I kept smiling and laughing through it, and i cried at the oz dance scene. All the work that went into this production definitely paid off.
Glinda has zero powers. Even in the beginning scene she has to use the point of the wand to break the bubble and hits a mechanical floor swith to get the bubble back again. She's created by OZ to counter the real witch using technology.
She had a different sort of power: she could bend social construct to her will. She could manipulate opinions of Ozians - starting with her classmates in Shiz (for good or for worse). If she agreed to come with Elphaba at the end of Part 1, their tandem would have been unstoppable.
Yes, I also noticed that the first two notes in both songs are an octave apart... the two notes being spread far apart in "Over the Rainbow" was said to be intentional as if someone is going over a great distance. I'm guessing Unlimited was similarly thought of as a great leap in potential.
As somebody who has never seen the musical, did not know the story (I knew it was a prequel to the wizard of oz), and as somebody who generally doesn’t really like musicals (except for a few), I went to see this movie on Thursday with my friends and absolutely loved it!
I’m so glad to hear that! I’m seeing it on Monday and I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to the hype. I’m only hearing good things about it so I can’t wait to see it 💚.
Miss Coddle when helping Elphaba’s sister refers to her interaction with Elphaba as “just a gulch” which is a reference to Miss Gulch the Wicked Witch’s Kansas character in the original Wizard of Oz movie.
For fans of the book by Gregory Maguire, in the scene at Shiz University when the students pull down the scroll for dorm room assignments, under Galinda’s name is “Ama Clutch,” who is Galinda and Elphaba’s caretaker in the book
This is actually a DOUBLE Easter egg because the Maguire named that character after the character in the 1939 movie that took Toto and is the counterpart to the Wicked Witch is named Almira Gultch.
Another little musical easter egg for Wicked Part Two; when Galinda changes her name to ‘Glinda’ at the train station, the theme for “Thank Goodness” can be heard, specifically the “I couldn’t be happier” melody!
Nods to other musicals. "Chicago" - going to rouge my knees. "Phantom of the Opera" - Toy hot air baloon has a liitle animal clapping 2 cymbals together. "Annie" - "Look! It's Tomorrow."
Did anybody else notice how throughout the movie there was a bunch of pink and green stuff often together on screen? A good example of this was in the land flare with the same colors. Pretty cool
There was also a fantastic moment, in “I’m Not That Girl”, where Elphaba is singing about how Fiyero is meant to be with someone other than her (Glinda), and Elphaba’s surrounded by pink flowers. When she switches over to the bridge (how it’s nice to imagine but never gonna happen), the color shifts to glowing blues and purples and greens, and the pink flowers vanish. Just for a little while in her moment of “what if it was me”
I was really aware of all the pink and green in the background the third time I saw it. Also the Shiz students’ clothes change from blue to green when Elphaba becomes popular
@LittleRedDrum no problem! i believe that was what ethan and the other cast members were talking about when they said to pay attention to the bottom of the screen right as the movie begins

Cynthia's Elphaba was the greatest most emotional portrayal in a musical I've ever scene, and I've watched dozens and dozens over and over for more than 1/2 a century. Cynthia and Ariana were able to emotionally expand (thanks to John Chu's extensive facial close ups) upon the great but necessarily expressively limited performances both actresses Idina and Kristin brought to the stage 2 full decades ago. I won't go into the profound allegorical parallels of the story to how truly repugnant and tragic our world political situation has become. I'll save that for another day. Go see this film...
In Return to Oz (1985), Princess Ozma is confined to the glass mirrors in the Emerald City castle; Dorothy rescues her by looking at her reflection in a mirror, seeing Ozma, and pulling Ozma through the mirrored glass. At the end of Wicked, Elphaba is falling and sees herself (as a child) in the mirrored glass of the castle. She reaches out to touch the glass, and just as she does, the broom falls into her hand. It's not jn the books, but I like to think that Ozma was "mirroring" Elphaba just like she later does for Dorothy, and that Ozma rescued Elphaba through their connection through the glass.
During "One Short Day" while telling in shadow about how the Wizard is the only one to supposedly read the Grimmerie, the "incantation" he's saying, "Oh...ma...ha.." is simply Omaha. As in Omaha, Nebraska, the place where the Wizard's hot air balloon escaped from. In the Wizard of Oz, his balloon reads, "State Fair, Omaha."
In the stage show at the top of the stage was a mechanical dragon that went left and right and in one scene, there is a clock at shiz with a sculpture of a dragon
in any scene dominated by greenery (especially the forest where Elphaba and Fiyero meet and release the lion cub), there are pink flowers, symbolising Glinda's presence in their story!
when elphaba and glinda wait for approval to enter doors to the palace to see the wizard, person reads elphaba´s invitation, then shouts to let them in. he is on a small balcony above- that is stephen schwarz the composer of the music of original wicked musical. i was so happy they gave him such an iconic role.
I only just saw the film and don’t recall the exact quote, but Mrs Coddle uses the word “gulch” when talking to Nessa and Elphaba - I think it was when discussing getting Nessa to her room.
Loved this! How about the line on The Wizard and I, she sings “I’d be so happy I could MELT” 🤭 I’ve been to the movie theater 4 times already (and I’m not done yet!) And every time I am hoping, wishing, praying for at least a gasp or a happy cry on Idina and Kristen’s part… and of course a standing ovation at the end, but, nothing happens!! 😩 How many times have y’all seen this masterpiece and… have people at least clapped at the end? I’d love to hear everyone’s experiences!! Oh do share, please?🙏🏼🥹🥰🤩
Not really an Easter egg but in The Wizard and I and she imagines the wizard asking if he could "de-greenify you" the light from the stained grass reflects onto her face and for a brief moment she is *not green* as she smiles and for the first time looks genuinely happy.
The expression that Galinda has when she sends Boq to Nessa is similar to the expression Galinda has in the Wizard of Oz when she sends them down the yellow brick road.
I noticed that, and I liked that the box they were in was studded with red rhinestones. I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned, but the red shoes in Popular were.
@GalaxyGirl08 oh you need to listen to the full soundtrack, especially his and Elephbas song and the one that follows directly afterwards "no good deed"
@@GalaxyGirl08it happens in the second act of wicked he becomes the scarecrow, boq becomes the tin man and the scared lion cub they rescue is the cowardly lion Elphaba does it to save his life
When we first meet Boq, he’s leaning behind Glinda. When she turns around to face him he corrects his stance with a very “robot” dance move. I rewatched The Wizard of Oz to see if the Tin Woodsman did this move, but I think it was too modern, however he does lean in his dance sequence (where Dorothy and the Scarecrow try to catch him).
When the characters first arrive at Shiz, they are announcing all the different teachers, and they mention a Professor Mombi. Mombi was another witch in the Oz books and also had a prominent role in Disney's Return to Oz.
For those learning English: #24 should be “musical *cues*” (as in advance warnings that your entrance(s) is (are) imminent, not “*queues*”, which refers to lines that form as people await access/entrance to some place, thing, or activity.
I recognized Jeff Goldblum’s voice in the affair scene in the movie. Also the green elixir bottle was another clue. In the book, though, Elphaba’s mother has an affair with a Quadling named Turtleheart. It’s implied though that she slept around.
If you notice the glass door isn’t fixed until it appears again in Popular. Could be symbolism for their relationship and how by Popular they no longer hated each other 😊
1:28 When the kids are running, the instrumental sounds like Elphaba singing “Unlimited, my future is unlimited. And I’ve just had a vision almost like a prophecy.” This is foreshadowing/the prophecy coming “true” as she saw ppl celebrating her in her vision, but they were actually celebrating her death
I find it a bit sad that people only speak of how the movie points back to the musical and rarely mention that the musical was based off a book. An AMAZING book! Let's give some credit to gregory Mcguire who created this incredible story. The musical wouldnt even exist if he had not written the book.
Anyone else notice the wizard parodying Walt Disney? Using the Oz of tomorrow aka Disney’s iconic tv appearances Disney’s Tomorrowland & possibly mimicking Waltz flying with shadow imagery.
The shadow bit of Sentimental Man was meant to be a reference to Charlie Chaplin. The bit with the moon specifically was a reference to The Great Dictator (1940)
When Elphaba sings “the wizard and I” she says that “some day there will be a celebration in oz all about me” I think she’s referring to the celebration of her death that the munchkins celebrate. In that song she also says “I’m so happy I could melt” we all know she dies by melting in the wizard of oz 😮 just some stuff I picked up 😭
Potential spoiler: Elphaba dances among frogs in the Wizard and I, and I wondered whether green amphibians were a symbol of being a child of both worlds. Maybe far-fetched but that was the first thought that came to mind as I watched the sequence
From Ozma of Oz: That is the College of Art and Athletic Perfection," replied Ozma. "I had it built quite recently, and the Woggle-Bug is its president. It keeps him busy, and the young men who attend the college are no worse off than they were before. You see, in this country are a number of youths who do not like to work, and the college is an excellent place for them.
I loved how Kristin Chenoweth was waving what she was holding (I can't remember what it was exactly but looked like a wand) and she was acting like it was broken which recreates the scene of when Galinda is trying to change Elphaba's outfit into a ball gown. Lots of Easter Eggs in that scene but that was the one that made me laugh.
Stephen Schwartz explained in Wicked: The Real Story, that the notes for “Unlimited” are the tribute to somewhere over the rainbow. Again, not an Easter egg in the movie. That’s how it was originally composed. But yes, the other musical queues were clever.

I don’t actually know what he look likes as I never saw him in the show but I have heard he’s made a cameo too. Is he the one who sings the tale of the Wizard’s arrival alongside Idina and Kristen?
The poster in the attic when they’re hiding from the guards before defying gravity, depicts the wizard in his carnival days stating his name is Oscar Diggs. Oscar Diggs was the name of James Franco’s wizard in Oz the great and powerful.
But that’s literally the Wizard’s name since Baum wrote about him.
Was seeing if anyone else noticed this!
As stated previously by other people that has nothing to do with that film as that’s always been his name in the books
The Wizard’s full name is Oscar Zoroaster Phadric Isaac Norman Henkel Emmanuel Ambrose Diggs, Oz for short.
His initials after Oz spell Pinhead, which is how I remember it.
It also depicts him taming animals. The carnival being his source of inspiration for subjugating the talking animals.
I just love how they used the for good melody as their friendship motif in the score 🥹🥹
every time i heard it, tears started streaming. God, it was so good.
The scene when Galinda gives Elphaba the flower and tells her “you’re beautiful” and when they dance together at the Ozdust ballroom had me WEEPING. It was so beautiful
Yes I heard it from when the film opened. 😊
Very first shot of Boq he’s positioned and “stuck” like the Tin Man. He also has a red handkerchief later in the movie and admits he cries a lot - Tin Man cried in Wiz of Oz
Fiyero also first starts walking like the Scarecrow if you watch his legs
Nessa wears red stripes socks and also her dress is red and white
Also - Did you catch Elphaba’s wicked witch laugh when she scares Glinda??
what is the nessa one a nod to?
@@amyyjuneytshe’s the Wicked Witch of the East. That’s what the Wicked Witch of the East is wearing under Dorothy’s house.
Is that why Jonathan walked like that?? I thought it was a choice lol
Also Boq’s last name being Woodsman!
@@SawyerDuncan-2 ohhh coool! so galinda is witch of north elphaba is wicked witch of west and nessa is wicked witch of east so is there a witch of south? sorry i just watched the movie and now im rly interested in it!
In the movie, the One Short Day sequence of them in the Salon is the same Salon that Dorothy got her makeover in the Emerald City.
The Wash & Brush Up Co. in the Merry Old Land of Oz. 😁
Wow
She had a different sort of power: she could bend social construct to her will. She could manipulate opinions of Ozians - starting with her classmates in Shiz (for good or for worse). If she agreed to come with Elphaba at the end of Part 1, their tandem would have been unstoppable.
When the Wizard pretends to read The Grimmerie, he chants, "O Ma Ha," (Omaha, NE, from the writing on his balloon).
I caught that when I was listening to the soundtrack on Spotify. I was like, "Wait a minute!" 😂😂😂
We watched the movie in a theater with subtitles, and those said "Omaha".
@@MM-du9on I only caught this immediately because I'm from Nebraska. My kids were born in Omaha!
Composer Stephen Schwartz used the exact seven notes from Somewhere over the Rainbow, but with a different rhythm in the phrase "unlimited..."
I learned something new! Thanks!!
Yes, I also noticed that the first two notes in both songs are an octave apart... the two notes being spread far apart in "Over the Rainbow" was said to be intentional as if someone is going over a great distance. I'm guessing Unlimited was similarly thought of as a great leap in potential.
I heard that too!❤❤
As somebody who has never seen the musical, did not know the story (I knew it was a prequel to the wizard of oz), and as somebody who generally doesn’t really like musicals (except for a few), I went to see this movie on Thursday with my friends and absolutely loved it!
I’m so glad to hear that! I’m seeing it on Monday and I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to the hype. I’m only hearing good things about it so I can’t wait to see it 💚.
Same! I came dressed in pink with a splash of green just for the occasion and I LOVED it!! 🥰🩷✨💚🫧🧹

Same, I liked it more than I expected to. Now catching up on the storyline.
Elphaba tells Fiyero to get stuffed when they first meet. Iykyk
And how he singing about being brainless 😁
Yes!! And also how both Glinda & Elphaba teased about him “finally thinking” nearing the end of the movie
And the scarecrow pose during the "Dancing Through Life" scene.
Ohh he’s going to be turned into a scarecrow by Elphaba???
Elphaba doing the wicked witch’s laugh when she enters her and Galinda’s room
That’s her real laugh. Have you seen how it dresses in real life?!😂
It was perfect
She said, "Boo!" right before she laughed. It's part of the song.
@msSassyGrace it may be part of the song but I still love it. Cynthia apparently does a good witch’s cackle 😂😂
Hmm, why would they do that?
This is actually a DOUBLE Easter egg because the Maguire named that character after the character in the 1939 movie that took Toto and is the counterpart to the Wicked Witch is named Almira Gultch.
Yall don’t even mention the silver slippers being in a ruby box
Right?! No review video I have come across yet mentions that. The box could have been any color!
Another little musical easter egg for Wicked Part Two; when Galinda changes her name to ‘Glinda’ at the train station, the theme for “Thank Goodness” can be heard, specifically the “I couldn’t be happier” melody!
I just watched Wicked tonight and missed probably 95% of these. Guess I gotta go see it again!
The cameos from the original Broadway cast were such a great touch too!
Nods to other musicals. "Chicago" - going to rouge my knees. "Phantom of the Opera" - Toy hot air baloon has a liitle animal clapping 2 cymbals together. "Annie" - "Look! It's Tomorrow."
I'm not sure if the last two are actually references
Did anybody else notice how throughout the movie there was a bunch of pink and green stuff often together on screen? A good example of this was in the land flare with the same colors. Pretty cool
Yeah this was seen especially in the wizard and I.
In the very beginning right before we see Dorothy and friends there’s someone in a black cape on a horse riding away from Elphabas castle
No way! I didn't catch that! I'm seeing it again this Thursday, I'll have to keep an eye out. Thank you!
@LittleRedDrum no problem! i believe that was what ethan and the other cast members were talking about when they said to pay attention to the bottom of the screen right as the movie begins
who even is it actually
@@MunchySpice nobody reply to this unless it's direct. Don't be a spoiler!!
This is the comment I've been looking for. I really thought I was just hallucinating when I saw that scene. Glad that I'm not the only one. 😅😅
Thanks for uploading! I love all these Easter egg type of videos.
there's a bit of follow the yellow brick road when the munchkins announce the witches death in the opening scene.
My friend plays one of the kids running in the field, im so proud of her!!
What’s her name (Idk if i might recognize her, i know SO many people who were in the ensemble of movie)
@@cokedudebestmate7099 Did they have good experiences on set? Were the days really long?
@@fbuelleroh they all had the best time! I think all of them consider it a once in a lifetime opportunity; That girl who runs with the newspaper for a split second at the start of the ensemble singing the first verse of one short day is arguably the best dancer i know on this planet, and the nicest person to boot
@ Love that. One last question. Were most of the ensemble members and extras British or American? I know they filmed in London.
@@fbuellerEveryone I know are UK-based, and I think the film’s assistant choreographer was British, but I assume there may have been a couple of Americans in the ensemble, and definitely in the background choir
There was a moment when “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” started playing in the background during a scene and my friend and I grabbed each other 😂
It’s right after Wizard and I!
So glad someone else picked this up!
Ummm, where? and why would you even admit that? 🤢
It was in the chase from the monkeys
In the overture (1:02 & 1:18), there were two quick musical nods to “Ding Dong”! That was sooo special!! Details 😭🎶
That song better be in part 2 😂❤
During "One Short Day" while telling in shadow about how the Wizard is the only one to supposedly read the Grimmerie, the "incantation" he's saying, "Oh...ma...ha.." is simply Omaha. As in Omaha, Nebraska, the place where the Wizard's hot air balloon escaped from. In the Wizard of Oz, his balloon reads, "State Fair, Omaha."
@elphie1013 I caught this too! My kids were born in Omaha! I live in nebraska.
In the stage show at the top of the stage was a mechanical dragon that went left and right and in one scene, there is a clock at shiz with a sculpture of a dragon
Yes!! I loved that they kept the mechanical/ironwork/ almost steampunk feeling vibes in certain parts like the library.
That's a reference to The Clock of the Time Dragon 😀😀
The Time Dragon is frequently referenced in the Maguire books
Also mentioned when Glinda tells about Elphaba's death.
in any scene dominated by greenery (especially the forest where Elphaba and Fiyero meet and release the lion cub), there are pink flowers, symbolising Glinda's presence in their story!
This is so amazing and I can no what to see the next I love Cynthia and Ariana
When elphaba gets scared of the whiz and goes to run away and Glenda grabs her that’s a nod to the original Wizard of Oz
when elphaba and glinda wait for approval to enter doors to the palace to see the wizard, person reads elphaba´s invitation, then shouts to let them in. he is on a small balcony above- that is stephen schwarz the composer of the music of original wicked musical. i was so happy they gave him such an iconic role.
when the lion was scared in the cage in the classroom, I thought that lion could grow up to be the Cowardly lion.
Correct :)
He does!
Um that’s exactly it…
You see in the stage musical that he does grow up to be the cowardly lion. A lot of the Easter eggs that are in the movie are in the stage show.
Duh..
I only just saw the film and don’t recall the exact quote, but Mrs Coddle uses the word “gulch” when talking to Nessa and Elphaba - I think it was when discussing getting Nessa to her room.
The way variety is dropping stuff only the theatre kids know
(7:18) "PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!" ....Nor the fact that the curtain's trying to strangle poor Toto.
Loved this! How about the line on The Wizard and I, she sings “I’d be so happy I could MELT” 🤭
I’ve been to the movie theater 4 times already (and I’m not done yet!)
And every time I am hoping, wishing, praying for at least a gasp or a happy cry on Idina and Kristen’s part… and of course a standing ovation at the end, but, nothing happens!! 😩
How many times have y’all seen this masterpiece and… have people at least clapped at the end? I’d love to hear everyone’s experiences!!
Oh do share, please?🙏🏼🥹🥰🤩
Not really an Easter egg but in The Wizard and I and she imagines the wizard asking if he could "de-greenify you" the light from the stained grass reflects onto her face and for a brief moment she is *not green* as she smiles and for the first time looks genuinely happy.
Wicked absolutely set the bar on what it means to create a LIVE ACTION movie. 🍿
For me it was in the very beginning when the camera pans over the rainbow into munchkin land right before No One Mourns the Wicked.
The expression that Galinda has when she sends Boq to Nessa is similar to the expression Galinda has in the Wizard of Oz when she sends them down the yellow brick road.
The dress Nessa wears on her date with Bock is covered in poppies, and she has a poppy necklace. But at some angles they look like little red hearts
The shoes in the original book are silver, not red…that’s why they are silver in the movie, as a nod to the book.
I noticed that, and I liked that the box they were in was studded with red rhinestones. I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned, but the red shoes in Popular were.
Also to do with the fact that the ruby slippers are under trademark.
But also… wait for part 2
Also I read MGM has rights to Red Ruby shoes so Universal went with silver from the book
What I do love though is that they still had a nod to the Ruby Slippers with the pair that Glinda showcases during Popular.
Just saw the movie tonight, and my wife and I loved it! I caught many of the Easter Eggs, but nowhere near all of them!
The prince becomes someone who thinks - makes me wonder if this is a link to the scarecrow who wants a brain
He becomes the scarecrow, so yes
@@austinvs😮 How does he become the scarecrow? Did they cast a spell on him? I’m unfamiliar with Wicked.

In the historical performance showing the origin of the wizard, when he "reads" from the book, he says "Omaha." He's from Nebraska.
Did Stephen Schwartz have a cameo as the Ozian who stated “the wizard will see you now”?
Yes!
Yes😊
When Elphaba meets the wizard, he pulls out a coin from behind her ear, but notice there is a small green cord in her hands from a deleted scene.
I found out about that when the cast went on the Kelly Clarkson show!
Yes! The small green cord is from a deleted magic rope trick that Jeff Goldblum does.
Jeff Goldblum loves his rope tricks xD
When we first meet Boq, he’s leaning behind Glinda. When she turns around to face him he corrects his stance with a very “robot” dance move. I rewatched The Wizard of Oz to see if the Tin Woodsman did this move, but I think it was too modern, however he does lean in his dance sequence (where Dorothy and the Scarecrow try to catch him).
Couldn't help but notice how Elphaba suddenly acts like the Cowardly lion when she faces the Wizard for the first time. 🤔🤔
Incredible Easter eggs.
When the characters first arrive at Shiz, they are announcing all the different teachers, and they mention a Professor Mombi. Mombi was another witch in the Oz books and also had a prominent role in Disney's Return to Oz.
Yes, the witch Mombi traps Ozma of Oz
For those learning English:
#24 should be “musical *cues*” (as in advance warnings that your entrance(s) is (are) imminent, not “*queues*”, which refers to lines that form as people await access/entrance to some place, thing, or activity.
There was also a line about something being just a gulch, making reference to Hamilton’s Kansas character
I teared up hearing the For Good melody in the movie...I'm going to be a complete wreck when they actually sing it in Part 2 😭
Same!
Who else thinks the Wizard is Elphaba’s father? Great movie! Thanks for sharing the Easter eggs! Can’t wait for part 2!
uhm... we know he is Elphaba's father.
this is actually spoiled in the soundtrack as Jeff Goldblum is credited in No One Mourns the Wicked
I recognized Jeff Goldblum’s voice in the affair scene in the movie. Also the green elixir bottle was another clue. In the book, though, Elphaba’s mother has an affair with a Quadling named Turtleheart. It’s implied though that she slept around.
@@kthorning4459 the afair with Turtleheart was after Elphaba was born. Her mother could not remember after drinking from the green bottle.
During the wizard and I
I believe There is a jitterbug on her finger from the famously lost footage from the original
can you explain more please? what is that lost footage about?
ALTHOUGH - the movie is fine for kids... THE BOOK IS NOT I am reading it and loving it - but it is a book for adults.
when Elphaba breaks the glass in defying gravity and throws her cape it's the illustration from the book

@@caitlinmacomber1303 I'm not sure, I need to see the movie again but it was somewhere in the middle, it's a transition shot of a clock tower at shiz

In the tower some of Oz’s old carts from when he was a magician appear while Elphaba and Glinda are trying to escape.

The orchestration here also incorporated some melodies from Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It was so noticeable.
They also incorporated Miss Gulch's theme from the 1939 movie
When Elphaba sings “the wizard and I” she says that “some day there will be a celebration in oz all about me” I think she’s referring to the celebration of her death that the munchkins celebrate. In that song she also says “I’m so happy I could melt” we all know she dies by melting in the wizard of oz 😮 just some stuff I picked up 😭
Potential spoiler:
Elphaba dances among frogs in the Wizard and I, and I wondered whether green amphibians were a symbol of being a child of both worlds. Maybe far-fetched but that was the first thought that came to mind as I watched the sequence
like a FROGGY ferny cabbage
No wait this actually makes sense
In the book, Elphaba is named after Saint Aelphaba of the Waterfall and that's in the opening scene
I noticed that Glinda’s guy friend was holding a copy of a pamphlet titled “the wizard of oz” in one of the scenes
Stephen Schwartz explained in Wicked: The Real Story, that the notes for “Unlimited” are the tribute to somewhere over the rainbow. Again, not an Easter egg in the movie. That’s how it was originally composed. But yes, the other musical queues were clever.
