Anything in wrestling is better than wrestling lately.. although I say that, I haven't watched since about 2004, it could've had a golden age resurgence for all I know.

@@stevelowe2647 You missed a few great years notably the later half of the Ruthless Aggression Era which took place between 2002-2008. The Universe Era was decent but got really stale around between the mid 2010s. The current era of wrestling is complete garbage so you didn't miss much aside from several more great years.

There never will be another generation of talent and lovers of the business like that golden age, but to be fair, the wrestling business will never be like it used to be either
Corny said it better, the business is dead and when they are gone it will be dead an forgotten.

I’m late and only 9 minutes in but he’s not 100% correct. There’s a reason Vince pushed “sports entertainment” so strongly as opposed to “professional wrestling.” It’s a show. You don’t have to think it’s real to be entertained. That’s like asking actors why they make movies since everyone knows they’re fake lol. The problem is the product isn’t as entertaining anymore. Whether that has to do with the cultural zeitgeist, the over analyzation of the product, the creative behind the product, etc is up for debate. But the issue isn’t that the business has been exposed. That’s a very ancient way of looking at things.

@@guwopman3503thinking of "the business is exposed" as the same as "people know it's a work" is a faulty way of seeing it, and it's exactly why people like YOU don't understand what Jim is saying.
YOU are the only one who is wrong here.
Everyone knows it's a work. Just like everyone knows Movies didn't really happen that way...
But "exposing the business" doesn't mean letting people know the winners are chosen, or that it's entertainment.
"Exposing the business" means when you allow every random person to think they can be part of it. When you start letting every single person look into the ingredients and you cheapen the entire effect of the effort of wrestlers.
Look at Magicians... No one EVER thought stage magic was actual magic. They know it's a trick. But is every magician running around giving out their secrets to any asshole who asks? No.
Because of that mentality, we end up with garbage like AEW and Deathmatch backyard nonsense.
You may wanna get a little more insight into the business before you start trying to pretend you know more than Jim Cornette, that's pretty embarrassing for you.

The modern wrestling crowd is comprised of critics. Not fans. A fan is someone emotionally invested in an outcome (they hate one side and like the other). A critic, on the other hand, watches to judge the performances and applaud or chant for the best performer even if that's the character they're supposed to boo. So you have an audience comprised largely of ppl who are there to judge the show rather than enjoy it.

It's just the day and times we live in. With the internet, everyone has access to everything and everyone has a voice. We're only now realizing that not everyone needs a public voice. It turned everyone into a bunch of keyboard warrior, ungrateful, impossible to please, narcissistic, assholes and one aunt Carol that comments "Jesus Loves You" on every post. This is why I've stayed off of the internet in a communication sense. I can comment here and never see it again, but past that, I don't have to argue about bullshit with shitty people for no gain.

I kind of relate pro wrestling to stage magic. I knew pro wrestling was a work when I was like 10 or so. But I also knew stage magic was a work as well. Make me believe. Honestly I think the vast majority of people knew that wrestling was not truly real. People cannot be dropped on their heads. When I get punched in the face it swells, when I punch someone my hands get damaged. But an overwhelming personality can make me forget all about that shit.

I don't understand why people can't watch wrestling like watching a movie. We know the actors in the movie aren't really the characters they are playing but we still get involved in the story and enjoy it. People watch soap operas and know they aren't real but still get involved in the stories. I use to see wrestling on tv when I was a kid and I could see then it wasn't real. I can't understand how adults could think it was real. I'm not a follower of wrestling just a casual viewer so maybe I don't understand why it's different.

Because the writing today is fucking terrible. Is it that difficult to understand? It has nothing to do with whether it's real or not. Everyone knows it isn't real but if the story being told (whether in the ring or through promos) is hard to follow, stupid, corny, boring, etc. then people aren't going to want to watch it. And wrestling has been all those things for a long time now. That's why people like Corny who fell in love with the business and grew up in it are so annoyed with the product today. Wrestlers used to have charisma and were often given interesting stories to tell. They also knew how to tell interesting stories through the actual matches with what they were doing. It allowed your imagination to take over a little bit so you could enjoy it.

    • @misterwishart
      @misterwishart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Now, I had never seen the John Stossel Dr. D incident. So one day, I'm reading through the sports pages and in the back, I found a column detailing results of house shows and the writer also included events that haven't happened yet. That was how I figured out what was up. In fact, the Detroit News report, which came out every other friday, was how I found out Owen Hart was the Blue Blazer. Even knowing that and future results, it still didn't deter me from enjoying wrestling.
