Why the Ripmo again? Because it’s friggin’ awesome. Congratulations on the new new! The Topaz looks so good. And the cranks? Man, you went all out on this bike. Again, congratulations. It’s super sexy bike.
Thank you for stopping in and checking it out. Now Ryan, from the Loam Ranger channel, planted a bug inside about long shocking his Ripmo so it’s 168mm of rear travel. I do love my cranks, bombproof.
Great video and an awesome build! Can you also comment on how long did you ride a Large and what did not work for you in that size? Im 5'10'' as well of course )
I rode a large from the time it came out for about 2 years. Then went to the Medium. Honestly, the Ripmo is such a great bike at your height in L or M. The large is more stable in straight line downhill chunk and very confidence inspiring. The Med feels quicker in climbs and more nimble and easier to pop off of things. So it depends on what you want. The party feel is the M but the L gives more stability but its still fun too.
Did you ever get the Santa Cruz chainstay protector for the Ripmo? What model is supposed to fit the Ripmo or is there another protector that will fit?
First off, thanks for watching. Second, no. Santa Cruz was always out of stock. However, BKXC has referred me to one call Velocity Hucking System. You can find it under VHSmtb dot com. It's also on amazon. It's basically customizable to any frame. You cut to your liking and peel the 3m backing and stick it on the frame. They say it works great. I tried one from specialized but it would not fit. Nukeprook makes one that I think would fit but it's only available in EU.
I see you’ve done a review on the sb130 as well. Compared to the ripmo which one is the better climber and which is the funner more poppy bike to ride? Also between the grey and blue ripmo which stock color do you prefer? Wish I could check one out in person but the dealers near me don’t have any. Thanks
They are kind of two different bikes. SB130LR, which stands for lunch ride, is a 137mm of travel bike and somewhat closer to the ripmo. I would say the SB130 gets bounced around more because it has less travel on more rockier and rootier trails. I would also say that the Ripmo climbs just as good if not better than the SB130. That is saying alot, considering the Ripmo has 147mm of travel. I think the Ripmo is much more playful bike, while the SB130 is a more planted to the trail bike. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but having had both. I think I like the bug zapper blue right now. It really pops and everyone notices it.
@@travelthenarrowtrail8660 right on thanks for the input. I live in New England so I’m looking for something that climbs as well as it descends and is playful and nimble but still capable. That’s asking alot I know, but I’m on the hunt. I’m interested in the new Hightower as well.
@@Sdm07120 New Hightower looks really nice. I used to have the last one it replaced. I just wished they allowed for a coil option. SC is a great company and stands by their products.
I was planning on getting a ripmo. So i stopped by at my LBS and at 5’9 they strongly recommend a size L. I sat on size M and L and they feel almost the same specially when they shorten the stem and moved the saddle a little bit forward. They told me with this set up i will be more centered in the bike which is better in every aspect of riding mtb. When you say size M is more playful and fun? What is it exactly mean? Like easier to jump? Thanks for sharing your new bike.
So, I've had both. I think in the video I said that I'm 5'10. Just for reference too, Richie Rude is a famous enduro racer for Yeti cycles. He is 5'11.5, so almost 6ft tall. He rides a Yeti SB150, which is similar to the Ripmo in many respects. The Yeti chart says he should ride a large, but... He rides and races a medium. Here is why. The large feels more stable of rough chunder and big hits, due to a larger wheel base. But that larger wheelbase can make it feel a bit slower. The medium, has shorter wheelbase and may not be as stable under big hits but... It also feels more playful, easier to manuever and get around switchbacks for climbs. Yes, on a large, you can move the seat forward, run hi rise bars and keep the steer longer. You can also run a bigger fork too, which will shorten the reach. Or you can get a medium. Bottom line with a Ripmo, I would say you would love the medium more than the large. The large is good too but its just not as playful as the slightly smaller frame size. You will love your purchase of a Ripmo. Check this link out, its a great video that will go more into detail of what I'm summing up in a few paragraphs: th-cam.com/video/HyppZOpHocM/w-d-xo.html
I'm a hair under 5'6" with long arms and on a medium and it fits great with a 35mm stem. If I were 5'10" it would be a large for sure if I could only have one bike....but it is up to personal preference and riding style.
Well, I am at 5'10 and its a tad bit smaller but not in a terrible way. It feels more nimble and just scoots up mountain climbs. The large feels more planted and stable in straight line descents and chunk.
Sorry for responding so late. Honestly haven’t weighed it yet, but I intend to. I know it’s more than my previous one by about a pound. I think it’s due to brakes weighing more than the xtr brakes and the fork weighs mor than a Lyrik.
I’m 5’9” on the Medium. I think the Medium is suitable for up to 5’11” despite what the Ibis chart says. I compared this bike with the Yeti SB130 the dimensions are very similar but Yeti sizes to 5’11. I’ve ridden both bikes and am not sure why the Ibis divide M/L at 5’9”. The L feels too big for me.
I am 5'10 and I was a bit hesitant going to a medium having been on a large for so long. There are ways to get a large to fit in reducing the reach. One way is shorter stem, and another is a longer fork also moving the seat forward helps. What I've noticed between the two so far is- the medium is more playful and even seems quicker in climbs. The large is more stable in consistent hits and in steep chunk, feels more confidence inspiring. Before I sold the large, I would jump between the two but the difference is mild in sitting on them but on the trail you can notice. I don't regret going to a medium, it feels much more playful and fun. Not that the large was not but the medium is very party like. Yeah, Yeti and Ibis bikes have similar geo. The large on Yeti is much bigger though. The SB130 is nice but not as playful as the Ripmo. Glad you went with a medium, much more lively.

Good stuff buddy 🤩🤘🔥
Congrats on the new bike! Glad you’re posting videos again. I remember when u did the unboxing of your previous Ripmo.
Thank you, glad you stopped in to watch.
Great build. I ordered mine in med as well. Also 5ft 10in. Can't wait to try out.
You won’t regret your decision on a Ripmo or the Medium size. With bikes getting so long many of us are riding bikes that are a little big.
What a nice bike... love the Ripmo! 👍
