Hey, nice bike :D That’s strange about the chain falling off though. Between that and the noise the only thing I could suggest is that the chain may be too long. I’m sure you and plenty of bike techs have checked that already though. My V2 was silent all year and I’ve yet to drop a chain. Not even once. Also on Eagle. PS: super jealous of that clean handlebar setup!
Yeah, I don't get it either, I have run sram 1x and eagle for the last 5-6 years for thousands of miles (currently a HD5, Ripmo, and Ripley v4) and have never dropped a chain. I also build my own bikes and run a tight chain.
This was actually my first thought as well. My issue turned out to be a worn front chain ring (after installing a new derailleur, sizing the chain down correctly, etc). Took me six months to figure it out LOL
“I have way too many chain drops” shows video clip of the chain ring with shark fins and teeth missing! 🤣 🤦🏻♂️ Another great video Brian! Keep em coming!
Hi Brian, I also own a ripmo Af which is pretty much the same as yours except the frame material. After one year I switched from a 450 progressive spring at 80 kg to an superdeluxe deluxe air shock. The change made the ripmo more lively and poppy. Still although it felt better I wasn't happy with the performance. So I changed the air can to the MegNeg and it made the bike more capable and it jumps even better. You should give it a go. Cheers from Germany!
For years I was trying different saddles, spending tons of money on them, and never found one that fit me right. Then I bought a used bike that came w/a Silverado, and I've been using them ever since. They just fit me right.
Code RSC from XT process: step 1: Man, these brakes take a bit of Squeezing not sold on this. Step 2: wow, so much power and modulation. Love these brakes. Step 3: test ride a bike with XT's, realise how much sharper they are, how much easier to bleed, bin the RSC's😁! On the STFU, are you maybe trying to mount it too far back? Bring them closer to the chain ring and it might have the clearance? The worst slap is closer to the chain ring no? Good luck, silence is golden👍
What I love about the Silverado is that I don't have to think about the seat. I rode my Ripmo AF for awhile and didn't even think about the seat until my friend mentioned he was dropping a lot of money on a new seat. Than I started thinking about mine. The fact I never thought about it before that point and I ride without chambois, tells me all I needed to know about it. Got a commuter bike on the way and that will be getting a Silverado when they get back in stock.
Been watching since the beginning, probably when you had about 2k followers. Your channel is so badass and I can’t believe how much you’ve grown as a presenter and entertainer. Keep on going!
Thanks for the bike check Brian! My current rig is a 2017 Kona process 153 and I like it but in another year or so, I will up grade. Good to hear about your IBIS. My next bike, I’m not sold on anything yet but I keep looking.
I ordered a Ripmo last fall and was told it would be in by August. Just checked the Ibis website a couple days ago and the bike has gone up $1,000! I haven't checked with the bike shop but I am guessing I won't get it at the price I ordered. Good luck Ibis. I think I'm happy with my old bike.
Brian. You mentioned your chain guide rubbing in the easiest gear. I had the exact same issue with the exact chain guide you use, and you can shim the chain guide in or out. Had to go to my LBS to get the shims for it. They are ridiculously tiny but will make it so you can center that chain guide perfectly.
Love the Onyx hubs! As for silence, I love that too, always on the quest. Interestingly, my current bike is the quietest I've ever had - a Turbo Levo SL Ebike. One of the super-lights (40 lb). With the motor off it's utterly silent even after a year of beating the crap out of it. The motor is a bit whiny pedaling up - but well worth it!
I have thousands of miles on my Ripmo V1 and it remains the quietest bike I've ever owned. I also never throw a chain. FYI the dudes at the Trail House set my bike up...may want to give them a try
Your timing couldn't be better! This week is my 1st anniversary with my V1 ( the blue and orange frame) and absolutely love her! It's very true what you're saying about the front chainring! I'm surprised you put a 34 tooth upfront! I have a 32 and although it clears and there are no marks, I'm considering running a 30 for added clearance. What I'd love to see in new tech for MTB are: Casettes! I was reflecting on what percentage of the Cassette I actually use, It's probably 25-30%. I'm aware some people customize their Cassettes but it would be cool if SRAM and Shimano either come out with a system where people can configure them before they buy or make them more customizable? Also, if they use a material that is even more durable, although they are for the most part. This would not only shave some weight, but would probably save companies some $$ in the long run.
Add a strip of 3M mastic tape to your chainstay protector, and then cut squares and double them up, and space them out on top of that Mastic tape to simulate one of the new "ribbed" protectors coming on a lot of new bikes (not sure why Ibis doesn't get onboard?). It's cheap, and took me maybe 45 minutes total, and helped DRAMATICALLY with the chainslap. Or..just purchase one of the pre-made chainstay protectors out there. It really makes a big difference on the Ripmo. I also added a layer of mastic tape on the seatstay above the chain to deaden that as well. GLAD TO HEAR you got away from the Shimano 4 piston brakes, and I'm predicting that alone...is going to eliminate one of the rattles. Those pads on the front....rattle LIKE CRAZY, and it drove me nuts.
Still riding my V1 Ripmo and loving it! Thought about selling it for an AF but just not worth it yet for me. I love the Fox suspension but haven't spent much time on RockShox. Have definitely considered upgrading the stock Ibis aluminum wheels though!
The Ripmo V2 is a great bike. I have a similarly built blue one and it's a great bike. Ibis should look at Santa Cruz and Specialized to see what a good chainstay dampener looks like. Both Santa Cruz and Specialized have begun to put well engineered large rubber protectors that virtually eliminate noisy chain slap. As a bonus I'd love it if my Ripmo had in-frame storage like the SWAT compartment of Specialized. BTW, I never drop my chain, but I don't ride as much as you either.
My RSC brakes to replace Code R on my 2019 Instinct BC are in being shipped to the bike shop-- I have the 10-52 XO mechanical on my bike, the 52 tooth cassette is a noticeable improvement and yeah i have the black chain too. I certainly dont ride like you but i have NEVER dropped a chain I been using the helicopter tape but i will check out that stuff you mentioned
It looked like that 34t chain ring was less than 1mm from sawing through the chain stay, when Ibis says 32t max on the Ripmo they seem to mean it. And hey Ibis makes your saddle selection easy, all their bikes come with WTB silverados
I run sram guide RSC, S on my YT capra. They are great while they work brian, but they do have a design fault where the piston inside the brake siezes, inturn no amount of bleeding solves the issue, basically meaning a full lever rebuild. Having said that not everyone's had that issue. In the UK the majority of riders want to opposite noisy hubs INDUSTRY 9s etc, I run a mavic cross a wheelset there not massively loud if I'm honest. The wireless shifter set up looks awesome, apparently component company's are looking at wireless shock and fork adjustments in development aswell so eventually near enough full wireless. Keep shredding dude 🤟👌
I believe you would be well served on a 30T chain ring, how often do you find you are out of gears and cant pedal fast enough? For me, never and I have a 30T on my Ripmo AF with a 30T.
I looked at a LargevIbis in Georgetown last week..It looks huge. I think ID rather have the Ripley! I thinknI will actually buy it for myself for Christmas
Hi, did you ever try a progressive spring on the ripmo v2? I'm looking at some coil shocks and wondering if i should go linear spring or progressive to keep the liveliness. Thanks!
Brian, I am purchasing the Ripmo af coil slx tomorrow for some enduro racing I'm going to start doing. I'm 6'1 and torn in between ordering a large or an extra large. Any advice?.
I got Ripmo 1 - I love it but boy, it is noisy indeed: The cable rattles and I can seem to be able to do anything about it and the lower parts are squeaking from time to time. Also, I have had a run of bad luck with hangers, I managed to ride 4 thousand miles on it and bent 3 already. Is it another weak spot? Curious to hear other sharing their experiences. All in all great bike. I'd be stoke to try the Ripley though... however, Ibis lead time seems to be in the range of 36 months nowadays... :-)
The Ripmo is such ans amazingly capapble, awesome bike. But why in the world does Ibis not sell the Ripmo with a chain guide and a bash guard??? My friend that have Ripmos are always stopping for dropped chains. They end up adding aftermarket ones later.
I’m having my Ripmo Built up next week. Been buying parts all winter. Curious what you think of this wacky setup. I’m running Shimano 8120 cranks in 165mm length with an absolute black oval 30t chainring. We have a ton of punchy rocky climbs and very short downs. Our local trails in NE honestly don’t really require a low bottom bracket for “extra stability” and I have always preferred straying on the gas and not having to look at every Little Rock along the way and wonder if it’s gonna smash my pedal. So .. long and short of it... 165 were the only ones available at the time and I pulled the trigger. Have you experienced a lot of pedal strikes or no? What do you think, maybe a loss of leverage with shorter cranks? I’m thinking with the oval and the quick crank turn over I won’t even notice.
What about your old breaks. would have loved to hear about them. seems like last 6 videos or so something went wrong with them... Feed back on that would have been nice. Other wise great video! hope to see you on a trail some day in Canada!
Brian, how did you solve the SRAM app issue with it not allowing you to add the rear derailleur and the dropper post on the same bike, that is so annoying. I can’t figure it out.
Loving my Ibis Ripmo v2! The noise I'm sure is the Shimano brake pads with the fins and they raddle something mad! Easy fix: 1. use non finned pads (MTX, Galfer, etc) 2. or bend the spacers wider, 3. Use metallic pads that are Shimano non finned. I'm sure the code brakes will solve your noise Brain! I now switched from Sram to XTR 12sp and have never dropped a chain and no chain ring.

Didn’t you start riding a size medium this past year?? Would love to hear about the ride vs the large frame. I have some cranky shoulders all the time and am 5’10… was looking into a smaller frame to save the struggle of lifting the large frame with my sore shoulders…
Im also 5'10" and have no clue if the medium or large is the right size. I hate being between sizes. I dont have any way to sit on ibis in my living area.
Hey that kook with long hair on the ripley was me! 😂
Brian, the quality of your shots lately are stellar. Great work as always!
Hii. Hows the p7?
This is weird, just had de ja Vue. ??
"I'm not sponsored by Sram, I just email them and they send me free stuff, and I really like that."
I f**ken bet you do 🤣
Hey, nice bike :D That’s strange about the chain falling off though. Between that and the noise the only thing I could suggest is that the chain may be too long. There are lots of faulty sram clutches out there. I would put my money on that.
Yeah, I don't get it either, I have run sram 1x and eagle for the last 5-6 years for thousands of miles (currently a HD5, Ripmo, and Ripley v4) and have never dropped a chain. I also build my own bikes and run a tight chain.

Hahaha, exactly what I came here to comment. That's not a narrow wide anymore, that's a rollercoaster out of commission 🙈
Same.
Enjoyed your honesty and nice to see your bike actually looks ridden. My new bike is SILENT and honestly, it's one of my favourite things about it.
Loved hearing that at your level you're not so focused on the suspension and you go with the Manufacturers recommendation!
Hi Brian, I also own a ripmo Af which is pretty much the same as yours except the frame material. After one year I switched from a 450 progressive spring at 80 kg to an superdeluxe deluxe air shock. Great work dude! Love the vids! Going off to college in Colorado from MN!! Can’t wait to ride! Thanks for the inspiration. -caleb
Just started riding at the beginning of Covid and watching your videos made me purchase a Ripmo also!
Brian, I love your videos. Been a subscriber since the trio Moab trip. Amazing how consistent you stay with weekly videos.
Try a 32 front you should see your chain stay on more. Thanks for sharing Enjoy the ride
Hey man Thanks for making this video , Lots of good info !
You’re videos are awesome! Every time I see them I feel like riding!!!
Haven't watched your channel for ages. So many videos to catch up on
Thanks for the bike check Brian! My current rig is a 2017 Kona process 153 and I like it but in another year or so, I will up grade. Good to hear about your IBIS. My next bike, I’m not sold on anything yet but I keep looking.
Thank you so much for getting a STFU!! It really works!
Sweet video! Excited to see what you get up to this season!!!
Awesome vid man! I love how you just try everything, doesn't matter if it's not the most high end method
Hell yeah, bkxc vid!
So cool to share all that info!
This bike reminds me the Kenevo Comp.. if upgrades like this one..WoW.
Great videos!

Amazing build! Awesome job on the picks! Love the “Sweetwings!” Good job Cane Creek! Have fun spreading the stoke brother!
SRAM Code RSC are going to be my next brakes. They seem to be the best downhill brakes you can buy.
Great choice on the new brakes they need a little bit more love then the shimano one's but I find the feal of them so much better enjoy
good fun video, Bri! It's got to be fun to also do a more relaxed video like this.
Love my Ripmo V1.
thanks, joey!

Awesome review Brian!
Awesome video. I am just shy of 5'10" myself, and was wondering if you liked the large or would have preferred the medium?
good bike check. Thanks for the good ride videos.
Velcro tape on the chain stay is simple and effective for chain slap noise. So far mine has been on for a year without peeling off.
That thing is sick!
I have thousands of miles on my Ripmo V1 and it remains the quietest bike I've ever owned. I also never throw a chain. FYI the dudes at the Trail House set my bike up...may want to give them a try
Maybe try adding a few spacers to the drive side of the bottom bracket. This will straighten up the chain line, and give you a bit more clearance.
New Christmas song ,"Silent Bike, Holy Bike..." 😆
An pity thumbs up from me for the joke
@@ukyo6195 Lol, thanks! Sometimes I can't hold back...I know it's dumb but i think it's funny.
It is always a good day when BKXC posts! Even stopped paying attention in my BIO 441 course 😂

Silent Enduro bike 😬 With the rowdy trails you ride... I think you’ll be chasing that dream for life LOL.
My Cube Stereo is almost silent but it's basically brand new. I think he'd have it rattling within a few months lol.
My RSC brakes to replace Code R on my 2019 Instinct BC are in being shipped to the bike shop--

also with the rear guide on the stfu cut it down do it doesn’t rub in your lowest gear and shift it forward till it doesn’t rub in the biggest
I think you need to bring your bike back down for a frame-up rebuild and we will add some secrets to make the bike extra quiet :)
do it @bkxc
Nice 👍🏻 I’m finally about to get and Enduro bike in May and can’t wait.
Heck yea! Soo nice 💯✌🏼
I use the STFU on my SB150 and its awesome!

I think you can run a gyro and a hollow compression bolt for you front and back brakes since you just have those two cables.
That chain ring looks ready dor the bin

I believe you would be well served on a 30T chain ring, how often do you find you are out of gears and cant pedal fast enough? For me, never and I have a 30T on my Ripmo AF with a 30T.
Great rundown of your bike! Did you ever feel like you wanted less travel? And did you ever feel like you missed the air shock vs coil?
I have the STFU chain guides on my Trek. Works well!
I am looking at the Ripmo AF, since carbon is too expensive for me. I was wondering what you thought of the DVO suspension?
I looked at a LargevIbis in Georgetown last week..It looks huge. I think ID rather have the Ripley! I thinknI will actually buy it for myself for Christmas
Nice mountain bike i love it it's like motorbike not looks like mountaincycle 😍😍
Hi Brian!! I say you 1 years ago: the Rock Shox Lyrik is better than fox36! Better move! I have an old 26" Lyrik 170mm and I love!
If you ever come back out to Nebraska check out Potter's pasture in North Platte!
Hi, did you ever try a progressive spring on the ripmo v2? I'm looking at some coil shocks and wondering if i should go linear spring or progressive to keep the liveliness. Thanks!

Ooo new deathgrips
I tried running a 34 chain ring, I prefer a 32. Best all around size in my opinion

We have a ton of punchy rocky climbs and very short downs. Our local trails in NE honestly don’t really require a low bottom bracket for “extra stability” and I have always preferred straying on the gas and not having to look at every Little Rock along the way and wonder if it’s gonna smash my pedal. Brian, how did you solve the SRAM app issue with it not allowing you to add the rear derailleur and the dropper post on the same bike, that is so annoying. I can’t figure it out.
I just got the RIpmo V2 with GX Eagle AXS. What did you use to plug the internal cable housing holes? Looking for a tip.
Now Scott & Sram, please please please make an AXS TwinLock! Got too used to it to abandon on my Ransom, but still want that shiny clean cockpit :-D
