so as the developer of this mod, something I've seen in the video you were curious about. 1. there are no weak spots for the shield not like a normal vehicle where there is an engine that could be hit. just gotta break the shield/ 2. the infantry aren't completely useless, 1 is good for distracting from heavily armored tanks also and any bullet does damage to the shield. the shield is just another layer of health. Tripods also have different stances, like infantry. the tripod u were using in the video was the low health one meant for people who want an easier better. i challenge you to fight the hard ones, spread out your men use the building as they help the infantry a butt load more and using static weapons etc ive taken out this tripod using mostly infantry and static weapons with on 5 tanks. so its definitely possible to do it with fewer. also, the weakness of the tripods are flanks as they take a while to rate and the tripods on have a 180-degree view. means there a whole another 180 they cant see or engage. thank you for playing my mod brother.

The movie made the Tripods very OP with their shields being able to resist everything the US army threw at them. It was till later learn that a soldier taking with them explosives for a close range suicide kill was the most effective at taking one down even though it had a cost. But anyway, The game here shows how the tech looks when the Tripods get nerf down their shields which kinda makes me wonder how the movie would had turn out had the tripods had weaker shields :3

Theoretically speaking, these things would be impossible to take down with kinetic weapons since they had a force shield working on some form of gravitational manipulation. And non of them took any damage from anything thrown at them in the movie. What ever they had there got scrambled by some form of Covid!
Well if you had an explosive weapon and you were already inside the shield dangerously close to the beam weapons you could damage or even blow up the tripod in the movie.

Pretty fun video. It'd be interesting to see the difference if you had artillery and close air support no to mention Javelin troops. Whilst the tripods were effective the Abrams like all tanks especially MBTs are best suited to open areas where they can use their mobility to their advantage. Rather than sit there and make it easy to get hit hah.
I knew the M1 Abrams was a great tank, i didn't know it could take down tripods when attacking in huge swarms. That said, I can't help but wonder if we would have learned enough about their shielding that we could breach it better.

It may help if you add AT infantry, guys with recoilless rifles, rocket launchers, Javelins, even Barretts. Setting up rifle squads and machine gun teams is a waste of FPS, they do nothing at all.
This battle was missing two things. Air support and rocket artillery. Having Apaches hitting the pods from behind might help to drop their shields faster.
By the way Daley, Germany had first contact with the tripods, so could we see first contact with a NATO force (to replace the massive prussian army that Kaiser Wilhelm 2 had assembled in the novel).

I think vs shield, HE would "realistically" work better than AP HE: most of the energy is transferred to the shield, draining the shield faster. AP: Get deflected, so only part of the energy is transferred to the shield: less effective than HE. However, the best weapon vs shield would be a shell that pierce the shield and hit the tripod behind it without needing to fully deplete the shield.

Something should be considered in this that I think is actually missing. The Tripods were actually given some rating of strength as originally written. For example, you have in the original a gunboat that as I recall takes out definitely one if not more of these using what could not possibly be anything greater than an antique 8" naval shell. What is on the field in the opening scene would most definitely equal or better that. Second, with the assumption that the firepower of the enemy was superior, opposing forces would direct their fire towards single victims at a time, betting on the possibility of a faster kill in order to decrease the overall fire they would have to endure as the battle progressed. It's an interesting study to a point, but if the power basis of each side is left as a variable for only one of them then it's a losing proposition. I get what FRANK THE TANK is saying, but while he pays some homage to the focused fire concept when addressing why there is even infantry on the field in the first place, he fails to follow that concept to the obvious tactical conclusion. As a remedy, establish some basis of actual power for the Tripods and then allow some level of actual tactical deployment to the event for the opposition.

Id like to see wwii era British military fending off these things. It would be even cooler if could be done in London too but that many buildings would probably cause some bad lag…
Just going to point out that the US has A LOT more than 200 tanks... (6,612 MBTs in official service)... let alone additional armored kits that aren't tanks like the strikers you have in the field against the walkers. That being said, fun video none the less.

@@CG-ej8nu yeah, in '05 we found that HEAT did more damage against their shields than APCR because they're weak to thermal effects.
