5 Giant Tripods from the War of the Worlds are invading Earth and the Entire US Army complete with 100 M1 Abrams and 1000 US Soldiers are defending from the Giant Tripod invasion. This was made using the Men of War Assault Squad 2 Spin off Call to Arms War of the Worlds mod battle simulator.

so as the developer of this mod, something I've seen in the video you were curious about. 1. there are no weak spots for the shield not like a normal vehicle where there is an engine that could be hit. just gotta break the shield/ 2. the infantry aren't completely useless, 1 is good for distracting from heavily armored tanks also and any bullet does damage to the shield. the shield is just another layer of health. Tripods also have different stances, like infantry. the tripod u were using in the video was the low health one meant for people who want an easier better. i challenge you to fight the hard ones, spread out your men use the building as they help the infantry a butt load more and using static weapons etc ive taken out this tripod using mostly infantry and static weapons with on 5 tanks. so its definitely possible to do it with fewer. also, the weakness of the tripods are flanks as they take a while to rate and the tripods on have a 180-degree view. means there a whole another 180 they cant see or engage. thank you for playing my mod brother.

Well, depend on units,
Laser vs laser, and in the movies those tripods have shield as well , but in on bias republic or empire might take a win, also Y-wings or Tie-bomber might do it
Republic/Empire would simply disable their shields by using ion cannons.

Funny thing is, they might exist in the same universe. All of the Steven Spielberg aliens movies are possibly on the same earth at different times, depicting different kinds of alien behavior. And if they ARE all in the same universe, then the Mor-Taxans are in the Star Wars universe because ET's species have a seat on the galactic Senate.
I actually love this mod is super fun. It's an even fun to have them pit against each other lol
I would really like to see a video of this with the US Army and the Russian Army and the German army all working together in the next video Against 18 Giant Tripodsi.
And have Air support and have the Dutch Army.

their entire design is to strike terror into humans. the original 19th century audience is just as startled as the modern day one by seeing these things IRL because it plays on our fears from when we were prey animals. the martians designed them like this with the same mind as mussolini entering Abyssnia with tanks to fight people who only had access to spears, bows and arrows

Pretty fun video. It'd be interesting to see the difference if you had artillery and close air support no to mention Javelin troops. Whilst the tripods were effective the Abrams like all tanks especially MBTs are best suited to open areas where they can use their mobility to their advantage. Rather than sit there and make it easy to get hit hah.
The movie made the Tripods very OP with their shields being able to resist everything the US army threw at them.
It was till later learn that a soldier taking with them explosives for a close range suicide kill was the most effective at taking one down even though it had a cost.
But anyway, The game here shows how the tech looks when the Tripods get nerf down their shields which kinda makes me wonder how the movie would had turn out had the tripods had weaker shields :3
It may help if you add AT infantry, guys with recoilless rifles, rocket launchers, Javelins, even Barretts. Setting up rifle squads and machine gun teams is a waste of FPS, they do nothing at all.
Artillery. Apaches. Drones.

Theoretically speaking, these things would be impossible to take down with kinetic weapons since they had a force shield working on some form of gravitational manipulation.
And non of them took any damage from anything thrown at them in the movie. What ever they had there got scrambled by some form of Covid!
That's right, a single celled organism was the real hero in the end.
Well if you had an explosive weapon and you were already inside the shield dangerously close to the beam weapons you could damage or even blow up the tripod in the movie.

Why check now when that Harvester has collected hundreds or even thousands of people without much of an issue. They also might not be completely familiar with human technology, not really knowing the difference between that bag of grenades from a random piece of clothing or something.
not even: literally got a cold and died of cringe from not having anything other than an overdeveloped nervous system and a heart and lungs, and literally nothing else. they literally use humans as capri suns and are essentially "what if ticks mastered fire?" look at the original book aliens and even the 2005 ones and tell me they don't look like parasites. they overused antibiotics and after eradicating all harmful microbes on their world, thought that Earth microbes wouldn't recognise their chemistry and thought not to get their vaccines while travelling to basically space Africa.

I knew the M1 Abrams was a great tank, i didn't know it could take down tripods when attacking in huge swarms. That said, I can't help but wonder if we would have learned enough about their shielding that we could breach it better.

@@CG-ej8nu yeah, in '05 we found that HEAT did more damage against their shields than APCR because they're weak to thermal effects.
@@CG-ej8nu If it was reality, there might not be much difference. Ballistic weapons are always common even in science fiction settings for a reason.
Just mine the path of them. There must be a break or interuption in the shield at ground level or they could not walk.

Awesome! Love getting more War of the Worlds videos. Would be really awesome to see them against ww2 (or even book appropriate (pre-ww1)) units! If it works with a ww1 mod, it could be neat to do a series of battles inspired by the events of the book.

A group of tripods against an artillery unit would be a really good match up. Or long range missiles like the MLRS
the force field is supposed to be indestructible and there should be no weak stops on the 2005 tripod. they only died because of human disease

People love to complain about the impracticalities of AT-AT's, but they take advantage of height just like these tripods (indubitably effective) with much more armor, and in the Expanded Universe they can go much faster. AT-AT's had their disadvantages, but they're still cool, and both AT-AT's and AT-TE's need ground troops and support vehicles deployed with them to cover their sides, underside and rear.
I could actually explain why the AT-AT's weren't moving fast in the Battle of Hoth. See, if they moved too fast, they would end up walking past enemy anti armor, and expose their neck to the enemy. Thus, they had to walk slow to ensure that they were killing all the anti-armor before they moved past the Rebel trenches.

By the way Daley, Germany had first contact with the tripods, so could we see first contact with a NATO force (to replace the massive prussian army that Kaiser Wilhelm 2 had assembled in the novel).

I enjoy any battle vids for the pure carnage. Large alien robots and exploding body parts definitely help emphasize that carnage 😂
This battle was missing two things. Air support and rocket artillery. Having Apaches hitting the pods from behind might help to drop their shields faster.
Could you do one in a Town, it would be awesome to see the destruction in A built-up area.

Something should be considered in this that I think is actually missing. The Tripods were actually given some rating of strength as originally written. For example, you have in the original a gunboat that as I recall takes out definitely one if not more of these using what could not possibly be anything greater than an antique 8" naval shell. What is on the field in the opening scene would most definitely equal or better that. Second, with the assumption that the firepower of the enemy was superior, opposing forces would direct their fire towards single victims at a time, betting on the possibility of a faster kill in order to decrease the overall fire they would have to endure as the battle progressed. It's an interesting study to a point, but if the power basis of each side is left as a variable for only one of them then it's a losing proposition. I get what FRANK THE TANK is saying, but while he pays some homage to the focused fire concept when addressing why there is even infantry on the field in the first place, he fails to follow that concept to the obvious tactical conclusion. As a remedy, establish some basis of actual power for the Tripods and then allow some level of actual tactical deployment to the event for the opposition.
They had no shields in the original story. The artillery took one out maybe more and Thunderchild the Torpedo Ram ship got 2, after the artillery became ineffective against them ( because the martians started lobbing Black smoke at them to neutralise them before getting in range) it was infered they were hoping to destroy them using mines.
All you need to beat these things is one guy with a bad cold and a cherry picker. You're welcome.
Id like to see wwii era British military fending off these things. It would be even cooler if could be done in London too but that many buildings would probably cause some bad lag…

I think vs shield, HE would "realistically" work better than AP
HE: most of the energy is transferred to the shield, draining the shield faster.
AP: Get deflected, so only part of the energy is transferred to the shield: less effective than HE.
However, the best weapon vs shield would be a shell that pierce the shield and hit the tripod behind it without needing to fully deplete the shield.
