I have a young (late 40’s) friend whose son wants to get into backpacking. We’re headed to Caprock in April, 2023. I just sent him you video to watch to see what he’ll see.
Me and my family used to come with a trailer, and stay at the park all the time. My dad and I would hunt for mule deer on another property in the Canyon outside the park. It’s been years now since I’ve visited, and I can’t believe I see so many buffalo there now. There was a point where I stayed at the park almost every weekend, and I remember seeing only 1 buffalo the entire time I was there. It’s really amazing to see this, thank you. :)
That’s amazing! The park now has Buffalo roaming everywhere. I wished we spent more time in the area. We plan on revisiting this park to finish the trails. Caprock had become one of our favorite parks to visit in Texas 😊
@@MrSTravelQuest that’s awesome, I’m glad you like being in the Canyons of the Texas panhandle. I grew up in Canyon Texas next to Palo Duro. I know how easy it is to get lost in Caprock and Palo Duro, so be careful. ;) Also, I’d love to see some more videos of you going around both of those Canyons.
Absolutely! We plan on revisiting Palo Duro again during the holidays. I know about the Canyon Slots and want to check them out. Caprock Canyon I want to film again, we got caught in the dark on our hike. Which trails do you recommend us checking out next?
Texas definitely does have great parks. You should check out Garner State Park during the warmer months, it has great spots for swimming. Crystal clear waters. We have a few videos of some other amazing parks you do not want to miss.
We went over the summer on fathers day weekend. I had so much footage of that park. You can check out that playlist here 👉 th-cam.com/video/TfpYx8iSqKE/w-d-xo.html . I'll have to check out your Garner videos, I loved the Caprock Canyons video you did.
@@MrSTravelQuest We definitely will! Right now, we are working on our camper so don't have any immediate plans. We wish you guys a wonderful New Year!! ;-)
My thoughts exactly! The views were amazing and couldn’t believe how empty the trails were. I’m planning on visiting the trail way next time I’m out there.
We camped at Caprock a couple years ago. Was before we had our camper. Darbi was not a fan of the bison. She barked and growled every time she saw them. I personally loved the prairie dogs. Loved how there was so many of them. We didn't do any hiking at Caprock. Honestly, don't even remember seeing trails lol. It's a really beautiful area. The campground was pretty nice. We enjoyed our stay.
We didn’t take our dogs on this one. Wasn’t sure how close we could get to the bisons 🦬 . I liked how all the tent camping were right on there trails. This was our longest hike and we were dead tired. The park’s beautiful and gets overlooked by Palo Duro.
We haven’t hit this one up yet. Passed it a bunch of times and day dream of stopping! Looks really cool and it’s pretty neat that there are Bison. Love that canyon hike. This ones on the list and it looks great 👍
You and the girls would love this. The bison are everywhere. The park unique on how they just roam. I was hoping to pass them on the trails, but maybe next time.
Thank you Takacs! Thinking of returning during spring break. These three trails are a must. Wish I had more time at the park. The Bisons are a neat part of the park.
It's a nice park and bison's are everywhere. Watch out for the bison turd lol, that's everywhere too. This park not as crowded as Palo Duro and the views are just as nice. I know you would love going here with the family.
@@TexasFamilyCamping I loved this park and ranked it higher than Palo Duro. The camping is nice and rest rooms are near by. I spent all day at the park and only seen a few folks on the trail. I wished I took more photos of the Bison. I'll probably revisit this park again during spring break.
New subscriber! Great job explaining the park! I can't believe y'all kept hiking at night. Was it cold? We will have to get back and explore the fern cave. It looks awesome!
Thanks friend! I think y’all did a great job in your video as well. I thought we could finish the trail in under 4 hrs and got caught in the dark. It wasn’t cold when we went. I planned the hike on a warmer day. The fern cave was awesome, but you could hear animals in the area. What parks are you planning next?
WOW! Gorgeous red rocks! So cool you got up and close to the prairie dogs! And were you guys scared of the Bison? It looks a bit cold! What was the temperature? How epic is that fern cave!
This park was amazing!!!! The Bison were cool and got a few feet near them. The first day was a nice 70 degrees, the second day was cold. I took mostly photos on the second day. The hike was no joke, we knocked out 8 miles.
@@MrSTravelQuest Congrats on getting those glute gains and cardio workout. When you visit Maui, we have some uphill hikes too. The view is worth the hike
Temps are colder this time of year, but we went in November of 2020 and the temps were only cold at night but the days are warmer. We just loaded a video of our trip there.
The Honey Flat campsites are great sites at this park. Very spacious and spread out from each other. We just loaded a video that shows our RV site at the park.
Traveling to Colorado next week and I'm trying to decide between Caprock and palo duro otw. Palo duro seems to have the better views but Caprock canyons looks just as good. Caprock does seem to have way less people from what I hear which is a huge plus for me, I'm not a big fan of crowds on trails. I probably can't go wrong with either park though as they both look extremely beautiful.
I love both parks. If you want less people and see bisons then Caprock is the way to go. Caprock Canyon has similar views. Palo Duro is one of the more popular parks we have here. You visiting any parks in Colorado? We just purchase the National Park pass and planning to visit more out of state parks soon.
@@MrSTravelQuest yea most videos I see of palo duro its completely packed lol. Definitely leaning towards caprock instead. I've been to Colorado before but mostly on the i25 corridor Colorado Springs/Denver area. Garden of the gods is amazing and I highly recommend. Other than that I've been to a few different trails close to denver but never any of the major parks. On the way to denver this time I'm stopping at great sand dunes National Park and rocky mountain National park, highly looking forward to both Once you get that National Park pass you can't go wrong with any of the western states if you havent been yet. I've been to all of them briefly and every one of them is simply beautiful. My favorite is the pacific nw
@@nomaderic We missed going to White Sands when in El Paso. It was 1 hr from where we were staying. We purchased the National Park pass and visited 4/14 parks in Texas. We plan on visiting New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. The videos I’ve seen of those parks are amazing! Palo Duro busy especially during the holidays. If you visit early in the morning it’s not that bad. The Lighthouse Trail and Rock Garden are two of the more popular trails at Palo Duro. If you visit Caprock check out Haynes Ridge. The views are amazing and no ones on that trail. Bisons are everywhere! We’re surprised we didn’t run into them on the trails.
I was there several years ago. Did a lot of hiking including to Fern Cave. Fell in love with the park, and hope to go back some day.
