This is a never seen place for me. Thanks for showing this part of the world. Place looks beautiful. Watching from Scotland . Big like and support for entertaining me👍
Wow thanks for watching. I hope I can produce more content that you enjoy watching. Consider watching my video coming out Thursday. I go to a somewhat similar environment.
Actually the town that Caprock Canyons is part of is, Quitaquay, Texas, pronounced kittyquay. We live in Texas and have been camp hosts there. It's the 3rd largest canyon in the U.S. we love your videos. The funky odor in the tunnel is bat dung, and owls wait outside at night for the bats to come out. There's hundreds of them. We never walked in, only in trucks because the bat dung is all over the top, sides, and floor of that tunnel.
Just discovered your channel. This vid was especially interesting to me because my best friend lives in nearby Lockney and I'm hoping to move to the area in a couple months. I love biking and had no idea this was in the area. Now that I do, it could become my go to spot!
So to let you know that is an eolian sandstone deposited by the wind not the water. Easy mistake but I appreciate you showing the wonderful geology! Great video by the way!
Planning to ride South Plains to Estelline, like maybe one day to Turkey Hotel, then Estelline. Have you ridden the rest of the trail east of the tunnel?
Thanks for the video. I was thinking of riding the South Plains to Quitaque section over the holidays, but it looks a lot less maintained and rougher than expected. Most of the videos on this trail are several years old, and I think the weather has taken its toll.
Yeah it's mainly the rough gravel that's the problem for the first couple miles and then here and there over small sections beyond that. Overall I enjoyed it though. If you have fresh tires with slime inner tubes you may be okay.
I love your channel, I just found it. The only TX experience I had was driving across the pan handle, yuck! I had no idea TX was so diversified. Thanx, will visit some of these places hopefully soon!
I didn't see any signs of snakes in the tunnel. I had a light but didn't want to mess with the bats in the middle of the tunnel. I did see some incredibly fast prairie snakes (i think)outside though.
The trailhead I used is in community of South Plains. Go east from there. There's another at Monks Crossing on highway 689 but it will a bit less scenic.

More than 100 million years ago, a giant inland sea divided North America into two smaller landmasses. This sea stretched from the Gulf of Mexico all the way to Montana! Even though much of the American West is dry desert today, its character was shaped by the many years it spent under water.
On that first bridge I did not I know you had already dumped the truck. I thought it was video from the truck so I cringed when you went over that super narrow bridge

It is amazing how the terrain changes so sharply...newer sub and dropping in from Nova Scotia, Canada...hope you have yourself a marvelous weekend...
Thanks again. Yeah, that's what drew me to the area. Love it.

Cool. This trail and the hiking trails at the main park would be fantastic places to explore on a regular basis.

Love this area of the south plains
How did we miss this?

This place is in the panhandle lol
The Llamo Estacado at some point was beach front property.
You are a brave man for going through that tunnel. It is well constructed, but the bats would scare me away. How about snakes?

erosions-fluvial was actually where the Flood water drained off.
IS THERE PRIMITIVE CAMPING ON THIS TRAIL?
Where is this its very cool

Thank you for cutting away and not showing your disposal of the bodies of the two hikers.
What was the tunnel for?
Train tunnel
...it was for the Fort Worth and Denver Railway...
Where is your flashlight?
Looks like part of the trail is an old abandoned train right of way
It is all RR right-of-way and is now managed by the park service.
@@genelappe Thanks for the info. Looks like a great ride.
A strong headwind can be much more of a challenge than the gradient
If you wonder which part of TEXAS that someone is from, ask them how they say the town named LA MESA or LLANO

Don't let science get in your way. Proof Texas was a shallow sea
