    The message of this video isnt' that mind muscle connection is dumb. He tries to tell you that you don't need to overcomplicate things. All you need to do is be consistent and chose the right exersices.

    • @doncollion
      @doncollion ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Exactly

    • @tristanhnl
      @tristanhnl ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Can't agree with that. Even if you choose the right exercise, not having mind-muscle connection can mean leaving gains on the table.
      Example....scientific study has consistently shown that lateral raises best develops the side delts. However, that requires the delts do most of the work, and not the traps, which a lot of people mistakenly do by shrugging their shoulders upwards while doing the raises. That's where mind-muscle connection comes in. And guess what...scientific studies also show that those who engage in mind-muscle connection increase the delts activation by as much as 30-40%. That is not insignificant.
      Folks need to stop listening to this Ian Barseagle guy. He constantly gives BAD advice, but people listen to him because he sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

    • @AK_Catholic_Traditional
      @AK_Catholic_Traditional ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@tristanhnl I don’t know who is this Ian guy and I see the guy in the video for the 1st time but your lateral raise exercise example is bad. Specially for beginners g (1st 2-3y).
      What they should be focused on is FORM.
      If the form is good on them, no need to over complicate it. Same goes for overhead press, bench, dead, squats.
      Get the form perfect. Increase weight. Increase muscle. That’s it.
      If you “feel” it in the leg muscles doing squats and your form is literally a squat away from disc bulge, then screw that mind muscle connection. Better don’t feel anything at all, and crank 8-12 perfect squats with heavy weights. You’ll grow much more.
      I’m sure Olympic weightlifters don’t care about mind muscle connections but their back (specially upper back) is monstrous, thick as a brick.

    • @tristanhnl
      @tristanhnl ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@AK_Catholic_Traditional , scientific studies would disagree with you (not sure how you can argue with science). The example I gave is perfectly valid. When performing certain exercises, it is entire possible for muscles other than the ones you intend on working, to take over. And again, lateral raises is the perfect example. A lot of people who do the exercise but see little gains, often develop their traps instead. But once they concentrate on pushing the arms out rather than up, it works the side delts more, which increases activation of the intended muscle. Mind-muscle connection and form go hand in hand.
      You mentioned "feeling" it in the muscle. That's bad advice. Some muscles you can feel, such as the quads as you mentioned, but it gets a lot more complicated if you're working a body part like the back, which has multiple overlapping muscles. Again, scientific studies have shown what I said to be true.

    • @maximc9033
      @maximc9033 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@alextomlinson Along with the bands I bought myself a "power tower" that allowed me to do pullups, dips, pushups etc at home. But I also used bars in my local parks. I work out 4/5 days a week.
      My workouts were and still are super simple:
      * Warmup (stretching and lightweight work)
      * Pullups: 5 - 10 sets of pullups (usually 10 sets) -> First 5 sets are difficult pullups with higher resistance/difficulty which u can only do for 3 reps before failure (once you work up to about 6 reps of this initial resistance/weight, up it so that u can only do 3 once again). -> the next 5 sets would be sets of lower resistance where I could do 8-12 reps (once again upping the resistance/weight once you can do more than 12 and find a resistance where u can do about 8). -> Once I got strong enough I sometimes did 5 sets of pullups with added weight of which I could only do 3 and then 5 sets of bodyweight pullups till failure with banded dropset for the final 3 sets.
      * Dips: 4-6 sets of Dips -> much the same as pullups, first 3 sets with higher difficulty - 3-6 reps build up then increase weight. -> next 3 sets 8-12 reps build up then increase weight. -> and sometimes once I got strong enough sets of body weight until failure.
      * pushups (strict military form): no real structure but I try to do sets throughout an entire day (except on rest days). What I did was start small with 50 a day doing as many pushups as I could per set. Then I worked up to about 200 a day in sets of 20 reps. Once I found 200 a day ez enough I added weight on my back to make it more challenging keeping to 15-20 reps.
      This has worked wonders and got me from being able to only do 1 pullup and about 10 ok pushups to 20 perfect pullups in one set, a muscle up and tons of pushups.
      I hope this helps, if u have further questions feel free to ask.

    Yes finally ive found someone with the same logic as me. My thought was always that if you stick to the basic compound exercises, and get really strong at them muscle automatically grows. Most sources i read said that strength and hypertrophy are two different things but really its that they go hand in hand. You cant become muscular by not becoming stronger, but to become stronger your body will have to grow bigger muscles to allow you to do stronger movemrnts.

    Very inspiring channel! 💯 I started calisthenics in November last year after doing the 100 push-ups a day for 30 days challenge. I’ve been hooked ever since and it has changed my life and I can keep this going my whole life unlike heavy weight training. Highly recommend sticking at the basic movements and just do more reps. It’s also better for your joints too. Here’s my current workout plan that I’ve tried a few but I think this is my final. Well for now 😂
    Upper
    Pull-ups
    Push-ups
    Dips
    Shoulder press
    Hanging leg raises
    Lower
    Squats
    Romanian deadlift
    Split squat or pistol squats
    Calves raises
    Hanging leg raises
    I do upper and lower body splits as full body was getting harder as my reps went up. I do this like 4 times a week along with running once or twice a week. But take longer rests if my body needs it. My reps go between 50, 100 or 200. Lower reps for pull-ups than push-ups. Higher reps for legs unless I decide to use heavier weights I do 50 reps. I usually do 5 reps x10 sets for pull-ups and 10 reps x10 or x20 sets for push-ups and shoulder press and legs. This is such a great way to build muscle and lose weight and feel super energetic. Definitely worth trying this for 1 or 2 months if you are looking to get in great shape with little equipment, you can do this at a park with a resistance band and a tree or at a gym with dumbbells and pull-up bar. 🔥

Silver of us have higher testosterone levels at that age. For example I don’t drink I don’t smoke and I don’t do drugs. He looks like he’s in the same boat. But I will say this, you’d have to see him in person because he may not look as big as he does in person as he does on camera. If you ask him what he weighs he might say 180 and he might say he’s 5’6. That’s totally totally possible. And he’s right about getting stronger and the gains following it because the more resistance you have the more mass you will most likely build if you’re healing correctly. If you’re sleeping if you’re eating and you’re not totally stressed out, you can build. Age has a lot to do with it obviously but this guy is 20 years old. I’m 43 now.But I believe it because I haven’t worked out in over 20 years and I just started recently and I see a difference. I also had seven car accidents and worked on a computer for 15 years 12 hours a day and so if I can make gains why can’t this guy at 20 years old when I think he probably eats right sleeps right works out right and everything else.

    Absolutely!!!!!! I am an amputee and do compound training 3/week. And 2 20-30 min HIT training on my cardio machine. And eating a balanced diet with 2 snacks and 2 protein shakes. I used to do the other trainings and it is much harder, especially if you are amputee. Modifications are necessary of course, but it works.
