    What they don't tell you in these little feel-good videos though is this: If you're doing it like Andrew, you've made it as a *TH-camr*, not as a producer, artist or musician. People like him are so quick to pretend those are all the same things, when they're totally not. People know him first and foremost as a likeable TH-camr who happens to make music production videos, but that doesn't necessarily mean they really know his music, let alone him having "made it" as an artist. To each their own, i'm just saying if you but your eggs into the YT basket, your daily schedule will consist mostly of recording videos, scripting, editing etc, but not making music at the same amount. You might become a successful TH-camr, but not necessarily a successful artist. These are 2 different things, at least most of the time.

      The model where music is secondary to the content that comes first. It's a winning formula but doesn't allow to achieve mastery in one or few genres. Its jack of all trades and its business first

      Your post reminded me that a few years ago he was complaining about how his life was a living hell because of trying to constantly come up with ideas for videos, editing, music gear reviews, TH-cam algorithm, etc . He said he was going to cut back on TH-cam videos.
      I would like to his true metal give up TH-cam and only focus on making music.

    I had similar situation as Andrew (not related to youtube though) so I gave up my previous job for a higher salary job but I didn't know there is so much stress and salary difference doesn't pay off for the stress! Your health is the most important thing and is the most expensive - no money will buy you your health back so don't chase higher salary, instead, chase for low stress job. Some though are lucky and get higher salary with low stress - I wasn't that lucky...

      "why would youtube do that?" it's all about the ad eyeballs. yes, they could push whatever old faff they wanted through their algorithm, but if it doesn't hit a minimum level of quality, it will not retain viewers, and YT loses the eyeballs.
      I think it was a Dr Mix / Anthony Marinelli interview where they mentioned if you got to a certain subscriber level, YT assigned you a direct contact and gave you access to YT studio space with equipment and staff support for shooting (and possibly editing) videos. It sounds nice, but isn't altruistic in the slightest.
      (and here I am "engaging" in the comments offering my eyeballs to YT where the lion's share of my premium money goes to YT, not Weaver...)

    I feel like in two years from now, we'll find out that he or his wife's family was rich, similar to how we discovered that Bill Gates was offered a McDonald's franchise by his folks if he finished college, or that Elon Musk's dad owned a diamond mine in South Africa.
    All I wanted to do since I was a kid was make music. However, my parents wouldn't even buy me new guitar strings for my $25.00 (1982 money) thrift store used guitar. If someone offered me $100,000 to make music full time, damn right I would quit my job. Instead, I ended up in IT for a school district, too tired to make music when I get home.

I grew up poor but now I make 315k in a low cost of living state and there’s no way I can buy myself music fame. I didn’t grow up with a well connected high status upbringing or marry into one, which is what you need to “make it” in a lot of cases. 95% of our favorite artists had help from mommy and daddy who’re already “in”.

He's invaluable to the online music making community imo. His theory video has probably helped tons of people who never were able to take lessons or were lucky enough to go to a music program in grade school. I don’t understand why people get upset about it. Like yes, it’s effectively an ad for his book. But is the story good? Yes. Is the takeaway lesson good? Potentially. So yah, he’s doing what he needs to do to make a living and maintain his lifestyle, yet is still able to do it in a way that makes for somewhat decent content in the form of a story. Like just because someone is trying to sell you a product, doesn’t mean it’s a bad interaction. I love a good sales pitch or a clever TV ad. In this case, I love a good story 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I watched this video, and I notice that he says "salary plus bonuses" and then it's just "salary" thereafter. TH-cam wasn't offering to pay him 100,000 dollars per year, they were offering him a job that paid a small amount of money and that he *might* make more if the people he works with have some success. That is, it was a commission sales job. He wants us to believe that his determination and wisdom in personal choices drove his success. He wants us to believe that his skill at what he does will make people this much money. He wants us to buy his book so we can have the same kind of success. Success of course, isn't just about process; if it were, everyone would be successful. He doesn't talk about the mistakes and missteps he made along the way, the hours he worked and still works, and the luck involved. And he will never, ever say that what works for Andrew Huang won't necessarily work for other people. He keeps throwing out as many large numbers and business related words as possible to reinforce the idea that you *must* *buy* *his* *book*. He's Tony Robbins with smaller teeth and less jawline.

    • @damousx6860
      @damousx6860 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think he’s saying that this book WILL give success, nor do I think he says this book will make you successful like him. It comes across as, if you’re interested in my perspective on how I got here, I made this book that throws in my 2 cents and can gain a thing or 2 about it. Also, I don’t know if he has never mentioned any of his mistakes, but he definitely has mentioned his struggles, and the book will probably give insight to his perspective. A formula that has aided to where he is now.
      Not sure why you’re making it seem like he’s scamming when he isn’t making outlandish claims or promises from what I can tell.

      I agree. It's typical shallow TH-camr wording, pretending to be meaningful as if this was helping for some great cause or something. Often they say "It helps the channel" to avoid more accurately saying "It helps me in getting more money".

    @Weaver Beats 2 - Man, I like you, and you come across pretty smart often, but ..."a vehicle to sell your stuff" ... most TH-camrs don't get started on TH-cam knowing if they are going to be successful or not ... so at most, there might be a wish like someday that might be a possibility, and you should know this, which means, no one is doing what you claim them to be doing. And TH-cam is one of the largest platforms on the Internet. What do you want people to do, NOT USE the platform to market themselves because Weaver Beats thinks they're using everyone? Man, c'mon ... that's strike 1 ... 2 more strikes, and I am going to start calling out on your occasional sketchy logic. Be the cool guy that I think you are. No point in you doing this if you end up doing the same shit you call people out on. LMAO. I do not like this Andrew guy but, I still think it's pretty cool he made it this far and, I hope you get to this point as well someday. I mean, it's not fair for you to work hard at what you do on TH-cam, but Andrew can't work hard and reap any benefits? C'mon duuuuuuude .... strike 1 Weaver .... strike 1 ....

    • @AAllinsonNN
      @AAllinsonNN ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nawh, he’s right. Much of it is a vehicle to sell you stuff.
      They’re certainly allowed to make their money and do their thing.
      But content is king. And if your content is just elaborate marketing or falsifying a community to drive engagement and sales, then it’s a massive disservice.
      Every relatively interesting AH video I’ve tried watching, just seems to be another “look at this thing you can buy” wrapped up in a cliche story or subpar musical endeavor.

    • @Francisco12G
      @Francisco12G ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AAllinsonNNmassive disservice... Like he the only one... He's an easy target. Do you consider how much time it takes to edit a video and put some lights on, sync the audio, efx and all that? If they are spending more time doing videos than music, it says a lot. Yeah content is king because you need to be chewing on something everyday everytime. Because of it, videos aren't densely packed so to stretch it out throughout several videos and never run out of ideas. How many channels started with techniques and ended with product placements and reviews? It's not about music anymore, it's either about ethics, gear or sales.

    • @hansmemling2311
      @hansmemling2311 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Francisco12G He’s allowed to have his opinion. If he doesn’t want to watch cliche videos that feel more like product placements than good content then that’s his prerogative. No one has to watch anyone’s content just because their life is hard or some shit. At the end of the day we want to watch the content that we like. I’m not on TH-cam to support someone, TH-camrs aren’t my friends and most of them aren’t charity cases either. If I want to do charity I can do that trough other, better channels.

    • @Francisco12G
      @Francisco12G ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hansmemling2311 Exactly my thoughts, i don't like either. i share a lot of what he said. And i'm not against sharing your opinion as it's good being critic. Either way it felt like biased hate towards something or someone you don't like from the start, especially on a video that already has that connotation.Would be much more surprising different opinions on the subject. Exactly, we watch what we like and i favor sharing your opinion and much prefer reading comments that are your own conclusions without even regarding the opinions shared in the video. I'm not here to support monetarily anyone either. TH-cam is a platform, you use it as you like. If now you can make money with it, people are gonna get their money. It's not personal, it's business. His channel kept changing in terms of content and i was never a big fan since it always felt watered down and some videos i didn't even bother to open. it's the target public marketing thing. You have to recognize that a lot of channels now copy exactly what he does and that is probably what can be consider "massive disservice". I blame the others more than him, since he was like this from start albeit a bit less, while others changed to adapt. You knew what you were getting if you think about it. It isn't really massive disservice, but it just feels like it because of the exposition the channel has and that's why is such an easy target and also one that you should probably not even bother with due to the already mentioned reasons including the ones of @phryge2468 . With that said, why bother really? The channel is so big because it appeals to the general public. Content is king but youtube content is cannon fodder unless you can take something from it. Take only the good stuff, be passionate and critic but forget the hate. Massive disservice is this collective attitude on the platform but easily dismissive if you just take what you want and need.

    I am sure, even though I did not do the math, that taking $100k jobs in CA would not be a smart move in you're making $50k in Canada. Even though they offered to move you, the cost of living alone would leave you actually making around $70k , plus taxes ,etc. Here in NYC, the costs are so high that they have estimated that $100k is actually around $40k...It also sounds like the wanted Andrew to influence who makes more YT money alongside the algorithm...I'm a DJ with a HUGE collection of CDs/records, and even with some of the older TH-camrs, I have NO music from them they released. Some of these bozos create fake beefs, and talk smack ONLY online, pretending. They know full well they will not have that same energy in person...

I'm that selfless. just believe in yourself is great but I'm not a fan of this type of shitt. if you aren't the 10-20% that might make it doing this cuz your not that good, arent that lucky, get injured or car broke down. then you are now broke with no job and a brutal self-doubt and depression.
    also youtube didn't offer him 100k. that offered him a commission job sales thing in a place that costs like way more so 100k would be pretty bad, which if he was good could make kinda ok money. this is clickbait to sell us a self-help book. how many self-help books are honestly better than a 10 minute youtube video going over it. these ideas are so well known. like the is 10000 books telling you this stuff.
