      @louco1965 his fight doctor, Ferdie Pacheco did advise him to retire in 1975 after the Thrilla in Manila. However, I'm assuming Ali's staff convinced him he would not be The Greatest if he retired.

    He was 8 years past his prime at this point. This fight should have never happened. The effects of boxing and Parkinson's are quite evident but so many people leeched off of him and Ali had made a lot of horrible financial mistakes as well that drove him back into the ring. RIP Champ!

No one could foresee that he would get Parkinson's not be able to speak he was the greatest of all-time God bless him and rest in peace Muhammad Ali the champ

      that is strange, he slurs in many interviews before this and even just before the fight. I'm sure being energized and not being tired and mood can effect that but he sounds pretty good here. Personally, I always thought the Holmes fight was the one that really sealed his fate as far as damage but who's to say. Boxers go through years seeming normal only to end up with major problems in old age. It's always seemed the damage seems to really show up as the person ages. George Chuvalo, Joe Bugner were speaking clearly a decade ago, I hear they are both having problems at the present time.

    If only John Tate had lasted another 2 minutes of that 15 th round against Mike Weaver we would have seen Ali vs Tate . Even though Ali was not the same fighter anymore , I believe he still had enough left to beat Tate at this point and become 4 time heavyweight champ . When you compare the two Trevor Berbick fights , Tate was knocked out by Berbick in 1980 while Ali took Berbick the distance in 1981 . The Holmes fight was a mistake for Ali and should have never happened , Holmes was the best heavyweight in the world at that time . I think Ali should have retired after Manila against Frazier in 1975 , and his Parkinson started around the time he fought Shavers in 1977 . But you couldn't tell Ali to stop fighting he was the GOAT !

    If there was anyone that watched autopsy when they did Ali in March of 2017 they would know Ali had been secretly going to the doctor since 1972 complaining about issues in his head that he felt affectedhis balance. he had taken x-rays and back then they saw nothing wrong with the x-rays and sent Ali home but the autopsy doctor said on Modern equipment today he could see things were abnormal at an alarming rate back in 72. Ali ultimately had a white substance in his lungs when they cut him open, when they put it under the microscope they found it to be a pesticide. Going all the way back to 1972 when he bought that training camp in Deer Lake Pennsylvania, some of the guys that trained with him said when Ali would jog in the road in rural Pennsylvania there was Farms on both sides of the road. And when Muhammad Ali would jog and his corner people would ride in the car behind him and they remembered the small air plains would spray a white substance and they thought nothing of it. They put the windows up and Ali kept jogging. The guy said back then we didn't know anything
    about pesticides and didn't know he would eventually get sick but he did! This is where it all got started, two years before the George Foreman fight. And it slowly progressed from there over time. and in the beginning of 1976 he started slurring his speech a bit. It was very subtle but you can hear it in comparison to 10 years before. And Dr's said he was speaking 26%slower During that time he was taking 20 to 25 pills from ill advised doctors that claim it would make him better, where it actually made him worse. As Dr Freddy Pacheco said it was like taking the wheels off of Indianapolis 500 race car and expecting it to perform in the winning circle's. it's just not going to happen. No matter how great that car is you take the wheels off it just won't perform. And that's what happened to Ali. He never had Parkinson's disease as they said in the early stages and then it changed to Parkinson's syndrome. and there it remained known and universally accepted as his assumed sickness He never had any of that what. he had wasn't really known until they did the autopsy. And It was said to be from pesticide in his lung that mimics Parkinson syndrome it gotten through his lungs and flow through his bloodstream and lymph nodes and his mind and nervous system and it messed him up. The fella on autopsy said at the end the only thing he was unsure about was, was it done intentionally or unintentionally was the question

    just as an aside to show you how much times have changed...when Ali was training at 5th st. Gym in '70 or '71 the Miami Beach P.D. picked him up as he was jogging over one of the bridges from Miami to Miami Beach...as it was against local ordinances for Blacks to be on beachside. I was a Sr. in H.S. in '74 and it was unheard of to see blacks at the beach. They would go to the rivers or one of the intercostals but never the beach.

    Its crazy to think he was fighting 4 to 6 months and in between time would gain weight then have to lose it quick people dont realize how much strain you put on the body doing that

    If he’d have fought more often through 79 and 80 he’d have beat Holmes and could have held onto the title a few more years. He should have fought on but not lost so much weight.

    • @maxv6837
      @maxv6837 ปีที่แล้ว

      His skills were severely degraded. He was not ever going to beat Holmes after 1979. Only the Ali that beat Liston could have beaten Holmes. The Ali that fought Foreman, Norton, and Frazier would have lost to Holmes.

  • @clyde642006
    @clyde642006 ปีที่แล้ว

    As great as he was Ali should not have been fighting at this time in his life. Parkinson’s had already begun to set in and in retrospect by the time he fought Holmes he was more or less done. I’ve never watched his fight with Holmes and never will because it’s very painful to see a living legend get berated the way Holmes did Ali.😢

    • @josephgeorge7385
      @josephgeorge7385 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was early in his training he didn't know if he would Tate or Holmes then Tate lost to Weaver and then it was Holmes or Weaver both had Belts

    • @dreman1970
      @dreman1970 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically here's what happened....most people were saying if tate beat weaver then Ali would be his next opponent...weaver knocked him out with 45 sec left in the last round...otherwise tate would've won easily by UD....the original negotiations were for Ali to fight weaver but they fell thru so that's why Holmes was put in the picture....

    • @paulcolville5972
      @paulcolville5972 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dreman1970 That's interesting. I remember Tate being the WBA champ at the time, before Weaver upset the applecart. And given that he held the less prestigious of the two world bodies titles back then, I'm surprised. But then Holmes would always have been the tougher opponent so maybe it was the wise choice. Perhaps the plan was to fight Holmes after unify the titles after beating Tate?

    YOU COULD EASILY SEE HE HAD PARKINSON'S AND HE WAS A SHELL OF HIMSELF SO SLOW JUST DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT. THEY SAY HE EVEN HAVE PARKINSON'S AS FAR BACK WHEN HE EVEN THOUGHT ERNIE SHAVERS.. And here's the kicker according to Angelo Dundee his trainer we never got to see the best of Muhammad Ali.. the four years that they illegally and unjustly took his belt would have been the best 4 years his crime Dundee said it was like shutting off jet propulsion!!
    And even with that not counting those four years HE STILL WAS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!

      Holmes was a great fighter but was not foolish enough to be proud of beating Ali. He knew he only beat a badly faded Ali and it was just a payday and nothing more.
