That's the thing, he was obnoxious 😂. It was part of the appeal in a way - he was arrogant to the point of obnoxiousness because he was THAT good. Nobody else really predicted the round, in which they would knock their opponent out, because they didn't know. Ali did, because he'd done his homework. He probably forgot more about boxing (sadly) than the rest of us will ever learn. He showcased boxing as both an art and science, in a way that very few people (if any) have done before or since. Which was not far from Don Kings training camp in Orwell Ohio. I believe my Uncle said he stopped for a minute & was very nice. How could you not love this guy.
After reading these comments ... for some reason, I feel compelled to share this with you guys. As a young musician, I happened to be invited to a party in Bel Air California hosted by a well-known actress ... this was many, many years ago. The party was being held in honor of a member of royalty from a foreign country (won't mention who or where). This hostess was famous for her Hollywood parties and this one was attended by about 50 people including dozens of actors, a bunch of recording artists, and (surprisingly to me) a number of very famous athletes including Illie Nastase and another European tennis player I didn't meet (some long-haired blond guy ... not sure who). Anyway, one of the guests was Muhammad Ali (prior to the Parkinson's issue). As is often the case at good parties, some of the best conversations take place in the kitchen and this was no different. I was sitting on a kitchen counter having a chat with somebody or other when Ali walked up to me. As a forever fan of his, I was astonished. Nonetheless, I took the opportunity to speak with him and we spoke for ... probably 20 minutes. I'll briefly share two takeaways with y'all. First, his charisma was dominating. His mere presence is almost scary impressive and positive. I don't know a better way to describe it. You felt the star power in his eyes and the way he carries himself. Second, I asked him, "What does it actually feel like when Joe Frazier hits you?" He answered, "Have you ever been chopping wood and you swing the ax wrong and you feel a shock, a burn, and a numbness that runs up your hand, up your arm, and then all through the side of your body that lasts awhile?" I said, "Yes. I've done that." To which he said, "It feels exactly like that." Sans my marriage and the birth of my son, this was the most memorable 20 moments in my life. Ali was truly the greatest. And I don't limit that to boxing.
larzuga1 Yeah righto Mayorga, crawl back into your apple you little grub Frank Howard That's a great anecdote. I would have hung on every word if you transcribed the entire conversation, Ali shone a bit of his light on everyone who watched him fight or heard him talk. *Ali, bomaye*

I've done that." To which he said, "It feels exactly like that."
Sans my marriage and the birth of my son, this was the most memorable 20 moments in my life.
Ali was truly the greatest. And I don't limit that to boxing.
