    Please everyone wash your fabric in hot water before making. Most fabrics from the store are treated with chemicals so the colors don’t fade and they look nice. Plus they have been moved around in warehouses and stores exposed to lots of “stuff”. That said, This is a great tutorial! I love beeswax wraps. They can even go in the garden compost once they are completely worn out.

      Thanks as I was wondering whether to wash or not… so just hot water, sounds great.

    Enjoyed your video. Questions: Did you wash out the sizing from the fabric before you cut and waxed? What about the dye that’s is used on the fabric- are there any potential issues with it leeching into the wax? If you want to freeze bread for example, could you wrap it and then put it in a plastic bag to freeze?

      Whenever I use brushes like this and need to wash them I wash them in hot soapy water, I just do it quickly and rinse well in cool water. I also shake as much of the water out afterwards as possible and put them on a paper towel to air dry.

    Thanks so much for the video- I have been baking sourdough for a few months now, anytime anyone asks how to store the bread, people mention "beeswax wraps" quick google, amazon, Etsy and the "oh I can make these" later here I am! Do you find these stick well enough with just the beeswax? I see others add the Pine rosin? Thank you again for your video ❤❤

      Wash in hot soapy water (just do it quickly, don't leave it soaking in there for a while) and rinse in cool water.
      Shake out as much of the excess water as you can and lay on a paper towel to air dry.

      Can wash them with cold water a little dish soap. But you can't put them in a washing machine or use hot water to clean them.

    • @ShellyCline
      @ShellyCline 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Zero is correct. You can wash them in cold water only, a little dish soap, and you can even use a dish brush on them during the process. Rinse in cold water and lay across a dish rack to air-dry.

    @backroadsusa6915 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you wax both sides so it's sticky on both sides because when you fold it the top sides not going to have wax on it unless I miss that in the video.

    • @ShellyCline
      @ShellyCline 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The wax completely penetrates the fabric all the way to the other side.
      It's no different than putting water on the fabric. The water would go right through, and so does the wax.

      I would use Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap to hand wash the cloth, and no diluted bleach, vinegar or lemon juice rinses or fabric softeners. My preference is heavyweight unbleached muslin....this way I'm already two ahead with no chemical bleach residue or dyes of questionable origin.

    You forgot to dye set your fabric with a vinegar water soak😳 Fabric also needs to be washed and dried without fabric softener, before you start, just like when you sew a garment. Fabric often contains harmful chemicals and dyes. Full dipping in an old crockpot in my opinion is better. It didn’t look to me that your material was coated throughly with enough wax. . Bees wax wraps are better with the Addition of pine resin!

    • @kayleemoore5819
      @kayleemoore5819 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      From someone who dyes fabric consistently, vinegar does nothing for setting dye. Washing it with hot water and gentle detergent removes excess dye but you need special detergent to actually set dye. No need to do both steps! You can wash with vinegar if you want, but no need to soak and wash.

    • @ShellyCline
      @ShellyCline 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @beckyallen3771 Btw, full dipping unquestionably oversaturates the fabric and makes the wraps overly hard, overly sticky, and downright unusable. Less is definitely more when it comes to beeswax wraps.
      Not to mention the beeswax wraps she was using seemed to be fully saturated and very functional.
