Thanks Becky - I ordered the jojoba oil as per your link. When it arrived it said not suitable for internal use. I emailed the Aromathy shop and they confirmed that it should not recommended for wax wraps. So I’ve given it away and will use some veg oil when I do them today.

Thank you for sharing that info! I had planned to use jojoba oil, but your comment prompted me to do a little more research. The jojoba oil is probably fine for making wraps used as bowl covers, but I’ll use an alternative oil since mine will come into direct contact with food (wrapping cheese, etc.). Most oils turn rancid quite quickly (also not healthy!), so I’ll use more stable coconut oil, which remains fresh at room temperature for 1 to 2 years.
BTW, the jojoba oil is great for other uses: conditioning hair, moisturizing skin, lubricating creaky door hinges, and more!

I'm a beekeeper and have been making these wraps for some time. Regarding the oven method: beeswax melts at around 65 degrees and your suggested 150 degrees is way too hot - undesirable chemistry will be taking place at this temperature. Around 80 degrees is plenty hot enough. Top tip - if you fold your fabric neatly to fit the tray and put the fabric in the tray while it's in the oven, the wax will soak in and capillary attraction will do the spreading for you. The benefit here is simple: after the tray has been removed from the oven, there's no racing to complete the job before the wax cools. Oh, and we don't use any additives and especially anything that has been shipped half way around the world - no oil, resin or anything else, just pure natural beeswax and Irish linen. Some will say that, without additives the beeswax will crack. This is true if you use too much beeswax but, if you get the wax to linen-weight ratio correct (just enough to wet it and no more) then you soon discover that additives are unnecessary.

Thank you so much for this input RobinHBrainwaite! I just read a some other bee wax producer write that bee wax melts at 62-64 degrees C, so I baked mine at 65 degrees for 5-6 minutes, and they came out SO nice! Much smoother than my previous batch made with the iron. :)

Before anyone mentions it I'm aware the resin and bees wax came in a plastic bag and I crushed the resin in a plastic bag ! I am using up what I have, you could use a paper bag to crush it.
Hopefully this video will help, we can all learn together and reduce our plastic usage for the future.

This recipe works like the shop bought ones. (Always wash and dry your fabric first) I just watched this after making some of these from an online recipe. The ingredients are the same as yours, maybe a slightly different ratio, I’m not really sure as it was a batch recipe. I used a method very similar to your method 3 with the recommended 140degrees C oven. They have turned out really great and are working the same as shop bought ones. I did find that some of the wraps seemed to have a little too much wax on them though and wish I’d seen your method of ironing another piece of fabric over the first to soak up any excess. I might yet do that. I’ve made them with only beeswax and the iron method before and was extremely disappointed at the lack of “tackiness” and therefore moulding to shape and sealing ability when placing over a bowl etc. The recipe I followed said that jojoba oil has antibacterial properties. With the small amount used in comparison to the rest of the ingredients, I certainly won’t be worrying about them coming into contact with food on the odd occasion I’ll be using them for more than just covering a container. You wouldn’t want to ingest plastic but it surrounds most food items. Thanks for your informative video, I shall use some of your ideas in the future.

if you haven't seen PUL fabric, it's worth looking into as well... it's not self sticking so not good as a 'saran wrap' replacement but you sew it like fabric, and it's 100% waterproof. Almost feels like a really really cheap tshirt with a bit of sheen to it... but they use it make diapers and little snackbags, reusable feminine pads, raincoats - you name it... and they have loads with digital prints so the colour and patterns are fantastic.! for anyone in Canada, i had a heck of a time finding it, without incurring all sorts of import and stuff, but Fabricville.com has quite a few patterns.

Hi there, I've watched so many beeswax tutorials trying to make my own and just have to say this is the best one I've come across so thank you! I see that you showed how to cut the fabric up so that you can make round wraps and I know it may sound simple to cut out squares, but I tried cutting out a square but it's not even and was wondering whether you could please share how to cut a square piece of fabric out for someone who isn't super crafty like me? She currently sells them for £19.99 for 3 !!!! AND people are buying them!!! I see you crush the rosin, so if I wanted to bulk melt a mixture, how much rosin and oil would you need for 10kg wax pellets? or is it trial and error lol
teaspoon-tablespoon at a time will prob go to 2 cups - 1 cup- 1 cup etc but then buying 10kg- 5kg- 5lt is prob not the right ratio as 5kg of rosin once crushed will not go 2-1 with 10kg wax?
