  • Here is the Final 9 holes from Karl's 3rd round 66 from The Prestige collegiate held on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West at La Quinta, California. It was a Shotgun start and we have holes 6 thru 14 on this video comprising the 2nd Nine.
    At 25-40mph and with play being suspended due to the wind on R2, the winds affected the bigger hitters and like so many of the top-ranked players in the field, Karl shot much higher scores than usual, recording 81 and 79.
    This final round would have periods of calm and periods of gusty winds and saw Karl record the 2nd lowest round on the day.

    Haven’t watched for a while and given the conditions, it was an excellent round - hitting fairways brought his irons into play and his putting looks pretty solid - length has never been an issue - with that stellar coaching team he has every reason to be confident 🇦🇺

    Cracking round, first time of had a look for a while but he seems to be making solid progress. One observation, he seems to spend an awfully long time over the ball before he hits hit, is there any reason for this? Truthfully I think it has the potential to be mode damaging than helpful.

    Karl's putting is much better, his putting coach deserves a lot of credit. Has he tried reading putts from the left side on left to right puts like Faxon does ? I just get the feeling he is not seeing those putts as well as he could and that would help. His overall game looks good and you can see all the short game up and down drills has really paid off.

      Hi John. Karl's been working with Col Swatton for the past 6-months and the putting has certainly improved. The reason we got the two of them working together was primarily due to where he got Jason's short game to. At one stage Jason was #1 in Putting, chipping and bunkers, and it's that part of the game that Karl most needed to improve. Karl's FIR and GIR rate is also pretty good. He's been leaning towards FIR over distance for quite a few years actually and generally carries 300, but when he needs to clear 315, he can do it with 5 yards to spare. Still got a lot of work to do with the chipping and wedge proximity though, but once Karl's academic workload eases in June, he'll have that extra time to put into those areas.

      @@KarlGolf Col Swatton helping is has a fate feel about it, he was a huge influence on Jason Day's development and Karl his mother is from the Philippines. He has taken a player from not being on tour to getting on tour and then to the tip. You can't buy experience like thhat and he is strong in the areas where Karl needs help. How did you manage to get him to help Karl? Karl's swing also looks better has he had a lot to do with that also?

      Hi John. I set the ball in motion with Col Swatton at the 2014 US Open at Pinehurst where I chatted with him for 45 minutes about my plans for the (then) 12-year-old Karl and we've stayed in touch since. What cost Karl so many tournaments last summer when he was in contention was his lack of a Cut shot in his arsenal. He'd had it previously but under his then coach it had become impossible to play the cut due to the mechanics being employed. He'd developed an uncontrollable Draw which made it impossible to attack any right pins, so tournament wins went begging. Karl eventually acknowledged that he needed to make a change in the coaching and with Jason and Col having recently parted ways, it become an opportune time to partner up.
      And yes, Karl and Jason have very similar characteristics on the course, so Col is perfectly suited to deal with Karl's weakness in regards to certain areas. I should point out though that Karl's mother is Indonesian, but having a Eurasian mix in this increasingly cosmopolitan world is something also shared by the likes of Xander Schauffele.

      @@KarlGolf Paul I am also a Eurasian mix Hue is a Chinese name. How often is Karl coached by Col Swatton ? I can see that really working out well it is like the missing piece of the puzzle. Karl just looks a more complete player than at any other point un his career.

      Not very often due to college, maybe every couple of months for s day or two, but that will change when the time comes to turn pro in a few years.

    • @KarlGolf

      Good question! Both Karl and fellow Stanford team-mate Barclay Brown tested positive after this tournament and were subsequently ruled ineligible to play in the Cabo tournament just 3 days later. Both players were asymptomatic and despite submitting subsequent Negative tests, were still not allowed to travel with the team to Mexico.

    Still sticking with the SIM or possibly moving on to the Stealth? Obviously length isn’t an issue for Karl so sticking with something that generates better feel is optimal and understandable.

    • @KarlGolf
      @KarlGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just started using the Stealth this past week. Karl takes a lot of persuading to change his clubs, especially his irons. That Spyder Putter he wields has been in his bag since it was first released around 4 years ago.
