For me the absolute magic of golf is this: No matter what level you are playing it, your best shot(s) of the day will be of a quality that could surpass those of the greatest pros for any given shot. We all put approaches in tight, we all make 30 ft putts on occasion, we all hole chip shots. Golf is the only sport that offers glimpses of greatness to mere beginners.

Agree with this 100% most average athletes can’t dunk a basketball, hit a fastball or be as be or strong as pro football players. But any average golfer can pull off some of the magical shots that the tour pros do, even if it’s just a rarity

I think we talked about this before, maybe on reddit? This video, and your description at around 6:47, really hit the nail on the head. Everybody likes to say, "This is why the pros are better..." But I think more than anything it's just focusing on each shot so that when they fail they don't compound it. So, like you said, they end up making a par or a bogey when an amateur would make a bogey or a double. It just adds up so quick.

I played Bethpage Black last year with a PGA professional and it just put into perspective how good they are. This guy was only a club pro and said he only made the cut a few times at the pga qualifiers. He played from tips, I was 2 tees up and he was out driving me by 20-30 yards. “Poor” iron shots were just short of the green or on surface and 30 feet away. Shots around the green had all the touch. Can’t remember his exact score but it was barely over par and he was pretty down on himself. Meanwhile I was just there trying to break 100 🥵. It was a fun round, he shared some tips that were great but it just put into perspective how good even the guys who can’t qualify into the PGA as club pros are

I played this course about ten years ago. Think my HI was close to 12 then. I didn't break 90. I had many unkind thoughts about Mr. Nicklaus as I struggled around the course. I especially hated the bowling alley gutters on either side of many fairways and the false fronts. I believe the course had been used for the old PGA Q school back in the day. Very tough and my game was not up to it that day.

I would like to see the back nine...👍😇 Have never played a pro...but last year played with a 30 something and his dad. The guy hit PGA lengths and other than the first drive, I don't remember any that were not in play. He played from the tips and 3 of us old guys played the whites...he drove it 100 yards past us...par 5's were all par 4's for him....He did not chip or putt better than us but the length was an incredible advantage and his iron play was also stellar. A game I am not familiar with...
