I wish that were an option but used vehicles are still crazy expensive too. I’d be spending more on a truck with over 100K miles than I would on a down payment for many new trucks, and while I’d have no monthly payment, maintenance and repair costs will be much higher on a yearly basis to keep it running and passing state inspection

I'd like to see an automaker try to just build a basic, cheap, work truck. Features like a backup camera and 10 inch touchscreen is nice, but just adds way too much to the already boggling MSRP. Some of us just want basic transportation without buying a 20 year old rust bucket.

Before 2020, you rarely saw people complain about vehicle affordability but now it is becoming more & more common as you see it everywhere now . This should indicate to auto makers that the general buying public is unhappy with their pricing strategies of their products. Most of these products price out a lot of the customers.
All it takes is one brave company to build products with affordability in mind as the first priority and when it steals sales like crazy from these greedy OEMs, they will be forced to keep prices reasonable while reducing over engineering their products to justify the higher pricing.

I have a good job and make a pretty good salary. 75k for a truck is ridiculous who are they marketing trucks for? Millionaires? If you have a combined household income of 100k, it’s hard to justify spending that much for a vehicle if you don’t need it for work. A truck used to be a vehicle for the average guy, now their over engineered for the rich and the wealthy and used trucks cost too much. It’s harder and harder to find something the everyday person can afford. And recently auto workers went on strike for higher wages. Which means base model trucks will be right around 60k to 65k. And as minimum wage increases prices for everything is going to keep increasing.

Wish you had pointed the cheaped out transaxle. We get the 4wd auto on my 2023 1500 Limited Longhorn at the expense of moving bands - that I suggest will wear out quickly. It's a Borg Warner 44-44 I think and we need the old fashion 44-45?? I found this below and value your input. Did RAM cheap out the 4wd auto and the bands engaging when torque is applied?
The BW 44-45 transfer case is identical to the 44-44 but operates as an electronically controlled part-time transfer case with SOF (shift on the fly) capability. The operation is the same except for the control system, which has only four operating ranges: 2 High, 4WD Lock, Neutral and 4WD Low.

Would be way more helpful to know payload for model shown and mid grade trim than the base model IMHO.

Are the GM trucks getting the updated interior across all trims?

For all the money you spend on these beast you’d think they would need routine maintenance just to keep them rolling…ie: Rebuilding the Ram front wheel bearings every 30K…new circuitry to keep the Chevy/GM head lights and DRL’s glowing, rust inhibitors in the Toyota frame to keep them from rusting out in a couple years, etc. I’m sure there’s more issues…please chime in commenters.

As always, great and informative video, Andre and TFL crew.
On top of what GM trucks offer new interior and amazing engines, they also have the best in class bed in any truck on the road. The most cargo space in volume, 89.1 cubic feet of cargo volume on Long Bed models, 71.7 cubic feet on Standard Bed models and 62.9 cubic feet on Short Bed models and the most tie down points at 21 total, making the GM trucks the best choice period.

They also have cylinder deactivation in their engines, known to fail before 100k

Not if maintained well. Every truck does not have it. Other manufacturers have issues as well.

If that’s true, what’s your experience?
I’m a proud owner of three GM trucks, one 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the older Active Fuel Management System and two with the newer Dynamic Fuel Management System, 2019 GMC Sierra and 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, all with the 5.3L V8. All three with over 100,000 miles with ZERO issues with the cylinder deactivation system. That’s because I know how to take care of maintaining my trucks. And with my experience, the systems truly do work, for real.

I will buy the truck that does not implement subscriptions to use hardware that I’ve already paid for.

Sorry, I found this confusing. What is really new in each one? You did not even mention that Ford is including Bluecruise in most if not all their F150 trucks... what about the others? The only thing I got from this is there is a new Ford tailgate and Tremor $11K winch bumper and you like the GM diesel.
