She was sent to L.A. to Glenn Ballard. He wrote, arranged, recorded and produced Jagged little pill with Alanis singing. It was before google so no one knew. Everyone just thought she was a new original artist. Lol
She is one of the very few artists at a very young age, and start in her career, who was actually able to break away from the slave industry of music. She made her own way without being used by the record industry. They treat people like slaves. Prince talked about it all the time. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard him, and multiple other artists, talking about how the record industry controls people through the contracts. You do not own your own music. They own the masters. Alanis broke away from that early on, and made her own way with the music. She enjoyed writing and singing her own stuff. There wasn’t going to be anyone control her career or her music. That’s what I admire about her. This video here is the mold they had created for her. She broke it and destroyed it, and I love it.
I definitely agree. As a 90s kid, many cool ladies like her, jewel, and Shirley Manson were like the Britney spears of that time. It's shocking to me that Alanis always talks down about this time period. To me, this single is a really strong pop-rock song. It's really good! I just added it to my collection lol!
I totally did a ballet jazz choreographed dance number to this in 1991, lol. I was 7. I didn’t know this song was by the same person behind “Ironic” until a decade or so ago.
I like this Alanis more than the one we know now. "Head Over Feet" and "Ironic" are the only songs I like by Alanis Morissette. However, Alanis? "Fate Stay with Me"? "Too Hot"? "An Emotion Away"? Hell yeah.
Alot of people enquire as to why Alanis doesn't re-release the first two albums, here is perhaps why. She had very little ownership from a contractual perspective, the result is that any re-release could financially benefit individuals that she doesn't like to associate with. Worth a thought?
Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s I remember Jagged Little Pill but at the time I never heard of her two earlier albums that were only released in Canada. After hearing Walk Away for the first time I discover just how talented Alanis Morissette really is.
She really went with the trends, as soon as the trend changed she changed her music drastically with that. I think the later albums showed what a great songwriter she is, and these were obviously better genres to express herself than Too Hot and such pop fodder.
I actually find Alanis Morissette more interesting as a musician when I found out about her early dance-pop career and it is impressive. Plus she looks much better here compared to her alternative rock persona. It is great listening to her early music but also watching her dance and SHE CAN DANCE!
@@laurens7431 for example: there are people who were good looking when they were children and then they got ugly. There is nothing 'creepy' in saying that a person was more good looking in a certain moment of their life, including childhood.
My grandfather for example was beautiful until he was 10 years old, than his face changed in a bad way. To me it was kinda the opposite, I got pretty around 20.
This video was made shortly after Alanis was involved in a rush hour dog-sled crash that cost her last name. It wasn't until the mid 1990s that Canadian medical researchers developed the technology to re-attach it. Fortunately due to the winter of 1989 lasting until 1995, Alanis Morristtes last name was still frozen and perfectly preserved at the crash site and she was able to become a complete person again.
The full identity was re-attached when she left all her hair products behind in Canada, and didn't bother to buy any when she moved to Los Angeles. She also went from being high energy and happy to being morose and intellectual.
Im loving these pre JLP videos im going to beg her to make a dance record lol its been 20 yrs ! x I think they are great but just a totally different career path and she can Dance !
I wonder if she has ever performed this song after “ Jagged Little Pill “ exploded. Would like to hear a alternative version, acoustic version with her current style..
that song should have been released around the world, not just in Canada and I wonder how much success it would have gotten worldwide...such a contrast from the 1997 Alannis cd entitled ''jagged little pill''
This makes me like Alanis even more! She could have stayed with this genre of music because it was safe and she was good at it. Instead, she chose to follow her own way. She is one cool lady.
NaLa1490 She was following the 90s alternative music trend because that's what was selling by the mid and late 90s. If she stuck with 80s pop dance music she would have never survived the last half of the 90s. So having said that, Alanis Morissette is pretty much a poser/follower and a sell-out either way you look at it.
I remember this song I think I have it somewhere on a cd, I used to dance to this in the bus going to school it was so popular when I went to school in early elementary. I love the beat to this song it's catchy.
Before people diss her early work, ask yourself, are you the same person you were when you were 16? I'm certainly not. You know, if you listen to her first recording "Fate Stay With Me," as well as the albums "Alanis" and "Now is the Time" they're all very strong lyrically. The music might have been a bit, well, over-the-top pop, but she's always been a great songwriter.
During the Jagged Little Pill days when she was doing the angry alterna-chick thing Canadians never let her forget this. Never. Lol She thought leaving Canada would make everyone forget. Never. #tallpoppysyndrome Sometimes a DJ would start playing You Ought to Know and then cut right into Too Hot. 😆 Good times. Millions of albums later, she didn’t mind. 😏

If you're into mall music that's your thing
amazing song.. so under rated back then
I definitely agree.
Hell yeah.
I have this CD. Alanis needs to get out of her bad mood and release some more dance tunes like this.
YAS!!!! I have a photo of me and Alanis taken at my JL Ilsley 1991 prom at the Sheraton.
This song was the jam when I was kid. I knew about pop Alanis before Jagged Little Pill. I like both, people evolve and change :)
Alot of people enquire as to why Alanis doesn't re-release the first two albums, here is perhaps why. She had very little ownership from a contractual perspective, the result is that any re-release could financially benefit individuals that she doesn't like to associate with. Worth a thought?
You mean the guy from Hands Clean?
Ja, das habe ich auch schon mal wo anders gelesen.
@@dylry86 Yes
This song slaps what a tune 2024 and just found out this was her lol
LOVE THIS SONG.... BRINGS BACK ALL THE 90's feels 🥳🥰💕🎉🙌
best album ever!
IKR?
God this is catchy as fuck!!!
Like a bad cold.
Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s I remember Jagged Little Pill but at the time I never heard of her two earlier albums that were only released in Canada. After hearing Walk Away for the first time I discover just how talented Alanis Morissette really is.
Just to let everyone know YES THAT'S Alanis Morissette in this video.
This was the first time I ever remember seeing Alanis. On MuchMusic, of course. ☺
Alanis Morissette? Cê é Loko! Nem parece a Alanis que conheci em 97 😱
love love this .. bubbly and happy Alanis!! miss this girl..
Was having a crappy day. I feel so much better now :)
LoL this is so awesome. Alanis was so cute back then!!
thank you watchmojo
I had always heard about how she was a mainstream pop artist in Canada but once you actually see it - WOW, thats all I can think to say.
She really went with the trends, as soon as the trend changed she changed her music drastically with that. I think the later albums showed what a great songwriter she is, and these were obviously better genres to express herself than Too Hot and such pop fodder.
This is actually very good
She wrote them all herself
After listening to it tonight. It’s honestly not too far from 94 album.
I never knew this girl existed! Never! Can't really wrap my brain around it!
I actually find Alanis Morissette more interesting as a musician when I found out about her early dance-pop career and it is impressive.
Plus she looks much better here compared to her alternative rock persona.
It is great listening to her early music but also watching her dance and SHE CAN DANCE!
kind of creepy that you think she looks better, she's a teenager here... and had an eating disorder. i think she looks amazing from 1995 to date. :)
@@laurens7431 lol he was just talking about beauty don't bring other stuff here
@@laurens7431 for example: there are people who were good looking when they were children and then they got ugly. There is nothing 'creepy' in saying that a person was more good looking in a certain moment of their life, including childhood.
My grandfather for example was beautiful until he was 10 years old, than his face changed in a bad way. To me it was kinda the opposite, I got pretty around 20.
@@laurens7431 or maybe, looking up someone's age isn't important to everyone
I danced to this song in a dance class when I was 7. For the longest time I had no idea it was the same Alanis as Jagged Little Pill…
That is perfect (and this is coming from a Canadian, so...yeah.)
What? Can you elaborarate more? Whats with her Last name?
....and a strong component of that technology was maple syrup.
The full identity was re-attached when she left all her hair products behind in Canada, and didn't bother to buy any when she moved to Los Angeles. She also went from being high energy and happy to being morose and intellectual.
😂 this comment
Im loving these pre JLP videos im going to beg her to make a dance record lol its been 20 yrs ! x I think they are great but just a totally different career path and she can Dance !
I wonder if she has ever performed this song after “ Jagged Little Pill “ exploded.
Would like to hear a alternative version, acoustic version with her current style..
Yes she does. th-cam.com/video/_qWwd7fwTt8/w-d-xo.html
Awesome. Thx Rollin Rocker….
that song should have been released around the world, not just in Canada and I wonder how much success it would have gotten worldwide...such a contrast from the 1997 Alannis cd entitled ''jagged little pill''
I was 13 when I first seen this video.1991 the first year MJ won his first NBA championship ring.
This should have been her first hit album.....this is very good.
This makes me like Alanis even more! She could have stayed with this genre of music because it was safe and she was good at it. Instead, she chose to follow her own way. She is one cool lady.
She found her niche in 1994: Alternative Rock. And hit Gold!
It wasn't a risky move. Alternative music was far more popular at the time.
Kristopher Bras Yes! just like Shakira 90's albums in spanish. (google 'Dónde están los ladrones?' if you don't belive me. I'm from Argentina)
@@Lulaa_the_human Shakira tmb lanzó dos álbumes antes de donde están los ladrones que suenan como esta canción de Alanís
Wowww Alanis started like that !!! What à Surprise, pretty Good Surprise in fact.
I remember this song I think I have it somewhere on a cd, I used to dance to this in the bus going to school it was so popular when I went to school in early elementary. I love the beat to this song it's catchy.
love this song can’t believe i was able to get the cd used alanis dances raps and still had that awesome voice love u alanis❤️
Loved this song back in the day. Then she denounced it and did a 180 and never looked back.
Happy 30th anniversary to this #1 hit 🎂😊
Before people diss her early work, ask yourself, are you the same person you were when you were 16? I'm certainly not. You know, if you listen to her first recording "Fate Stay With Me," as well as the albums "Alanis" and "Now is the Time" they're all very strong lyrically. The music might have been a bit, well, over-the-top pop, but she's always been a great songwriter.
FLASHMOB!!! this A.S.A.P.
Luckily, Canadiens can take a joke!
She's from Ottawa Ontario right next to My home town of Toronto Ontario and man she did look beautiful int this video and she still is.
Robin Sparkles from How I Met Your Mother was inspired by this lol
Fight Sleep. watch Tiffany 'I think we're alone now' 😉
This is too hot and too cool! I love the sound and running man.
I don't know why she's so ashamed of this stuff--it's some of my favourite Alanis--so catchy and not at all angsty or angry...
thank you av club
I can't imagine Alanis busting a move.
you should watch the video so pure!Shes a really amazing dancer actually!
Shes still hot lol
aveuch Alanis can dance! Especially in her “Feel Your Love” video.
You don't have to imagine when you can see it with your own eyes
Lets go to the mall today!
