    I actually liked my MotorGuide Tour Pro when I had a boat. Ran solid for 3yrs. I prefer the electric motor being in the head vs the mount like the others. I also preferred the electric assist cable drive vs pure electric drive. Just my old school ways I guess. Probably one of very few who agree with this.

    Xi3 owner here. Sad to hear they are calling it quits. I have run mine for 2 years and it has been solid. It hit ton's of rocks, stumps, and deadheads, and it still works great. It's amazing how fast the marine industry went from booming to selling off, and discontinuing major brands.

    • @theINQBS
      @theINQBS 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The one good thing Milliken covered several months ago was how the BOOM in the fishing industry and particularly the freshwater side of things during the Covid Lockdown in 2020, major acquisition companies started buying up major staples in the industry to bring as many of them under one umbrella and that's when Pencil Pushing accountants are brought in and it then becomes a numbers game. Once enough of these companies are controlled by the same entity, they assess which brands offer what, which ones sell better and they then dissect things to bring in the best Marketing, the Best Design and they best features and roll them into one and the winning brand then owns a significantly larger portion of the market. This means that some familiar brands will be killed off as time passes, and usually it's sooner rather than later which is why it seems so many have disappeared in such a short span of time.

    Been running my X3 for two years without issue. Does what it needs to do. Added pinpoint for spot lock and also use the Lowrance head unit functions. Works great. Great value. My dad just added the Garmin Kraken. That thing is on another level. But also cost 3x what mine did. To each their own. I guess nobody wanted a good value option. Always trying to keep up with the Jones's

    Bought the new tour a few years ago and installed it on a 97 Hydra Sport. I have since sold that boat. Current owner still has that trolling motor and upgraded all the graphs and added live scope.
    I actually loved the new tour despite the larger head. Was very quiet and the head didn’t spin back and forth like all the others when you put it on spot lock. The foot pedal I really liked it was an electric assisted cable steer. Very smooth and because it had both it always had a redundancy system should one go out.
    I will admit that it had two warranty recalls for bad boards that would not allow the spot lock function to work correctly. The first time you took it to the mercury dealer he ordered the board and installed it. However that didn’t wholly fix it. So they sent us the end users a plug in dongle that updates the software on the new board and that finally made it right.
    A little frustrating, but they paid for every bit of the warranty.

    I had a tour pro for 3 days. The first day was driving my new used boat home, the second day I took it to the lake, ran it for 10 mins almost got thrown overboard by the spot lock and the third day was the day I sold it, there were many other problems too like not wanting to calibrate etc... Nonetheless it was legitimately 3 consecutive days lol. I went to an ultrex next then and a second ultrex after fighting steering sensor issues and having to replace the whole motherboard too. Now I have a Powerpole Move and I haven't looked back. The Move is so many leagues above everything else it's not even funny! I absolutely love it!

    I run a 36 volt cable steering Motor Guide. It’s been very dependable and there’s a place that sells remains for about $900 so I also have a spare. I like how easy they are to change out. I haven’t had to change it out put 30/40 years ago Trolling Motors were so unreliable that I carried a spare in the boat. I stopped carrying a spare about 10 years ago but like to have one in my truck. I’m not buying two Power Pole Trolling Motors and wouldn’t be comfortable with not having a spare. I see a lot of guys having issues with the spot lock feature on their Minn Kota’s.

    I got a 2018 Xi5 and it works fine. Spot locks great, set heading, save routes. What more is it supposed to do? And it was affordable compared to what's out there now. And replacing components would have been easy because if you needed something you could buy it without having to pay a tech to install it it for you.

    Currently have a tour pro 36v with pinpoint/spotlock. Really love it. Ya the head is kinda weird and different, but it works every time, powerful, and no real issues. The biggest plus is if something goes down in the electric steering, I turn it off and use it like a regular cable trolling motor. My day/trip isn’t ruined, I can still use my trolling motor. The older ultrex’s don’t have that (idk if the newer ultrex plus whatever ones do), so if one of your little sensors go out in the foot pedal, you can’t turn your trolling motor, except with the remote. As long as they keep up customer support (have 3 years warranty left), I’ll be a happy dude.

    Love my tour pro! Does all it's supposed to do. Got mine when they first came out. 4 yrs ago. Worked right out of the box with my lowrances. Cost me 2100, not 4 or 5k! I've been around trolling motors, bass boats since the 70's. After you use the motor for a few trips you don't even notice the head size. So many guys I talk to can't afford the crazy price of these motors! The weekend guys just don't need all the useless tech added to these motors. Just need a decent spotlock motor.

  • @JStarFishing
    @JStarFishing 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thousands of kayak anglers have been using xi3’s for years. PowerDrives are not very useful due to deploy/stow design. We can do all that while seated with the xi3.
    I’m not sure what we are gonna do now- I am pretty sure most are not gonna run out and buy $3300-$4800 motors despite realizing that brushless is better. Hopefully Lowrance comes out with an affordable alternative or continues the design under the new brand.
    PowerPole is a great company with excellent customer service, but $1350 vs $$4800 is just not a reasonable price difference for most people.

    At one time motor guide was the only trolling motor to own. Evinrude was crap, steering cables broke, breakaway cables broke and the wire under the head would wear in two and the directional arrow would break. Pure crap. I can remember when Mercury had a trolling motor and you could hear that thing all the way across the lake. The lowrance ghost has 3 control boards, crap!

    Loved my old Tour Edition, bought it used and used it on 2 different boats. Unlike Andy's I didn't have an issue bending the shaft. In all the time I owned it, the only thing I ever had to do to it was replace a steering cable. A friend bought that bought my boat is still running it without issues. In my opinion, motorguide started the downhill slide when they first discontinued it and went to the x series motors. By the time they were ready to release a motor with spot lock they were playing catch up and in one of their release videos at icast they were bragging up how accurate the spot lock was but you see the background moving all over the place. Despite my love for the old Motorguides, i wasn't going to invest in something like that. I bought a Ghost instead and absolutely love it.

    Wow I know 2 guys in our club bought the motor guide trolling motor because Bass Pro Shop was selling them for cheap money one our guys tried out my ultrex and he said he would not spend that much money but I think it’s the best motor out there I had the Fortrex before that and I beat the crap of out it and never had a problem at all

    Where were all these positive comments before they went outta business 😂.

    I had a Tour pro and it was the biggest pile of garbage I ever owned, had problems from day one and their customer service was terrible, no wonder they went out of business. I have had 2 Ultrex trolling motors and they have been flawless. The older MG trolling motors were pretty good, I still have one from 2010 or so on my smaller boat that works fine.

    Because there junk my repair center quit selling them and will not repair them. They said there parts were junk you repair them and three months later there back because the same part failed again.

    Bought mine and it has been goofed up since I have owned it. Support has been distant. Yeah have you done this? Yep. Over and over. Can I get a new board? Well.... maybe. Fuk it...

      I still have warranty but not sure what good it does me. Ill probably sell it as an 82lb trolling motor for cheap money.

    Garmin is the best unless u want to add another 1500 t0 2000 bucks more for power pole. Garmin has the best support. Ultrex seems to have a lot of repairs based on the friends i have that have them.

    I've got the xi5 and DON'T like it at all. It works great as a weed rake,it would gather pounds of weeds on the head(yes pounds). I would have to clear it all the time when we went out.👉👎

      Oh forgot the wireless foot control is total crap. The trolling motor would turn 2-3 seconds after ya moved the pedal. Impossible to use. $180 wasted used it on one outting and then took it off & used the hand controller!

      I agree totally. I mean even shaft-wise. They stayed metal when everyone else went black composite.
