Modifying and Reinforcing a Land Pride Grapple

  • In this video we repair and reinforce the bottom teeth of our Land Pride grapple. We used the grapple on our Kubota B2920 to move many large boulders that proved tougher than the AR400 steel that the teeth are made of. We designed the gussets using Fusion 360 and cut them out of 1/4in mild steel on our 4x4 Wright CNC Plasma table. A slight bend was added to the gussets using our Swag Off-Road Finger Press Brake. Enjoy the video!

    I just purchased the same Grapple as well. I can see they're not built very robust. Nervous about my poor judgement wish I'd seen this before purchasing. Gotta be better choices out there somewhere. Wish EA hadn't gone out of business. Thanks for showing us what we'll need to do in the future! 👏👍

    Looking to get the 72 at a discount of 2600 new. Should I Weld reinforcements to it before I begin to use it? I don’t want to tear it up right off the bat, but I’m buying it as a package deal rather than coming up with the extra cash to buy a different grapple.

    What would possess a person to think they could pull a full sized tree trunk out of the ground with nothing but a small tiny sub compact tractor using a grapple that is made to pick up things that are not attached to 100 foot deep tap roots 2 foot wide?

      If you look up the grapple you will see it is a light duty for a BX tractor. Always buy the right size grapple for your tractor size.

      Yes, I was not impressed with LP's grapple, even though I own other LP equipment. The Wicked Grapple by EA is definitely the way to go IMO. But what a great job on the fix and reinforcement of this LP unit! My hats off to them -

      @@michaelvoorhees5978 Hey Michael, so here's what I finally ended up doing. As I mentioned, I kinda fell in love with Everything Attachments grapple. I called EA and tried to order one for my Kubota 2650. They were very nice and knowledgeable, and answered all questions. But the bottom line, we were looking at something like 12 week's before I could have it, and he honestly told me it would probably be longer. So I called my guy at my Kubota dealership. I told him I thought EA made a better product at a lower price and that I thought that
      LP was way over priced. He told me that the prices were comparable or even less and said to stop by when I get a chance. So I went and looked. I wanted to buy a 54" unit and told them as much. Well, It seems the big problem is guys buying a lesser version of the LP grapple, which is made more for a BX, (the 54" model) and putting it on their larger B models. He told me he will sell it, but Kubota/LP will void the warranty if put on a bigger tractor and that he actually tried to push a warranty through for another customer and got shot down. When making a side by side comparison, there are pretty obvious differences. The larger 660 (60") models were quite a bit beefier. They also had a heavy piece of round stock welded in between the teeth about 4-5" up from the bottom (just as EA does) this prevents the teeth from bending, as well as acts like a stop when digging the teeth into the ground and allowing them to ride above ground like skids. Note how the video shows no reinforced tubing on his lower jaws. Either he has an older model that did not have that feature, or a lighter duty model. Also, LP uses AR400 steel just as EA does. Weight wise, they are very close at 250lb. I ended up buying the LP grapple and am very happy with it. I have my own videos about it on my channel. As another poster stated, I think people are using these grapples for way more than their intended purpose. My son used mine to clear a few acres of brush for a garden and was amazed at how well it uprooted small shrubs and trees, rocks, debris, etc. I'm not a tractor expert by any means, but I do know the difference between a grapple and a root rake (my LP is built more like a root rake) Not sure what this gent did to bend his teeth like that, but you can be sure it was doing something it wasn't made for.

    Really glad to see that I'm not the only one bending the lower tines on this grapple. Mine is a land pride SCG0548 and managed to put a bend in the two middle tines yesterday - thinking that reinforcement is probably the way to go on these. In the "bend it back" department, could you use a ratchet strap as you did towards the end of the video?

    • @PalsProjects
      @PalsProjects  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing would move the tines. They are made drone AR500 which is very hard to bend back.
      Maybe some heat with oxy/acetylene would work.

      @@PalsProjects That grapple should just be used on a BX tractor. It was designed just for a BX. Its no wonder that it got bent. Might consider buying the right size grapple for your tractor.

    Funny that this came up in my feed, I just came inside to eat a bite and go back out and finish welding on my grapple. Landpride only welds one side of those teeth and the welds break and the teeth fold over...and the factory welds are not that great in terms of quality.
