An Irish man here living in Türkiye for more than 20 years. I'm not even going to comment because whatever I say will either be loved or lambasted depending on what side you're on. I will say something non political. My Turkish friends and neighbors are wonderful, warm and friendly people who are always helpful, try to feed you five times more great Turkish food than you could possibly eat, supply you with the best Turkish wine and ice cold Turkish beer or the famous raki if fish is on the menu ! You don't need to leave to go on holiday, you can ski, swim in the cobalt blue Mediterranean and Aegean, or Marmara and Black Sea if you like it cold. You can go mountaineering and trekking in the beautiful Taurus mountains, you can go back to the age of no cars by taking the ferry to the beautiful Prince Islands, you can scuba dive around coral reefs in the south or pop over to the Greek islands like Samos, or hop over the border to Georgia for a nice weekend. In İstanbul we can have breakfast in Europe, go to Asia for lunch and be back in Europe in time for dinner! You don't have to worry about the fasting month because most of the restaurants and all of the bars are open. The sun shines most of the time and you are surrounded by amazing history from Ottomans, Romans, Greeks and back to the dawn of civilization with sites like Göbekli and Karahan Tepe. The big problem if you're not earning €, £ or $, is the very high inflation. It's slowly getting under control but it's still very bad. Soon after I came to Turkey there was a new Turkish Lire, it was tl1.45 to $1. Now, it's 32tl to the $. This makes living difficult for the people at the bottom of the financial ladder.

I came to Türkiye 2 years ago as a Dutchmen, The Netherlands or Hollanda as some may know and I'll tell you 1 thing. I will never ever leave this country anymore. Friendliest people in the world. When you move to a new house, your new neighbour brings you food to welcome you. After eating at a restaurant you can stay as long as you like and get free tea after eating for the whole night. Anyone will offer to pay for your food when you go out to eat together. If you need to go to the airport your friends will offer you a 2 or 3 hour drive without any hesitation and nobody wants anything in return. Everyone is polite. People stand up in public transport for elder people or pregnant women. Everyone talks to eachother calling names like father, uncle, aunt, brother, which gives the feeling like this is 1 big 80 million people big family living together in peace and with laughter. The culture is what makes me addicted to Türkiye. Türk insanları, sıcaksınız, tiryakinim size ❤. Next to that the country has everything: You can go to the beach or rent a boat if you like hot weather. You can go skiing or snowboarding in the mountains if you like winter sport. You can go swim at waterfalls or go hiking in the mountains with wild çakals, wolfs, foxes, bears and all kind of cool animals if you like the outdoors. You can go old traditional bars with traditional music and Rakı if you like this. You can go to modern discotecs if you like to party and drink cocktails and beer like in the west. You can live here following any religion and if you are a good person, the people will be good to you. Almost all people here marry 1 time and stay together forever, way better then the divorce rates in the west. I truelly with all my heart love this country, it's history and it's people. Every country has it's flaws and so does Turkey, but for me it's absolutely the #1 place to be. Ne mutlu Türküm diyene... i hope to say one day when i get my passport ❤❤❤🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🐺🐺🐺

A important note on Gulen, who is for some unfathomable reason presented here as some random scholar who's been used as a sacrifical lamb.
Cults in Turkey are not recent. There have always been cults of personality donning religious looks both in Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic. Gulen organization is no different. They opened cheap dormitories for students only to force said students into religious practices modified by *their* impretation of Islam.
They had their alternatives for Islamic teaching (which normally would be carried out at Mosques under Government supervision) which quite literally used brainwashing tecniques on children and teens to garner support.
They were highly organized, to an extent they had an actual effect on politics, hence the reason many politicians ties with said cult.
    They existed before Erdogan.
America nor any other country would give 2 nickels about some random scholar. He is not innocent at all. Even without the coup attempt, their organisation is responsible for ruining many lives.

I was participating in one of those Study groups way before the coup and I left them a little before the coupetoo and we where tought only good things and the traditional values of Islam no modified bullshit, education allways was number 1 in those Circels and they tought us independence and how to live with discipline.Erdogan on the other hand is allways talking about religion and is making the people dumber and more stupid, Education in Turkey is being driven against a massive brickwall, TRT and other State TV Channels are spewing Propaganda 24/7 and even their TV Shows are full with deulsion, a la the turkish goverment is under terrorist attack everyone is against us we need to liberate Turkey against the whole World, every Year there is a new version of said TV show. And then there are the News, 24/7 Israel reporting to distract the people from the falling Lira and whole other shit that is going on in that shithole of a country. Who believes that Gülen was the instigator is badly manipulated by Erdogan. The Democratic State of Turkey is fucked, just recently a Woman was sentenced to 9 month in jail for saying "fuck the Sharia", its her oppinion and she has to go to jail for saying something we are all thinking.

"Turkey chooses Turkey". Truer words have never been spoken. Strong allies go down together. Turkey is not interested in going down. It was a sore lesson learned during WWI. Certain groups in the then parliament were in cahoots with Germans and they dragged an already sick empire into a devastating world war. A mistake that was not repeated during WWII. Ankara's distance to and diplomacy with both the allied and axis powers kept Turkey "the only country where the lights remain on". When it comes to international politics, friendship means mutual benefit. Nothing more, nothing less. That is a blurred line that constantly shifts this way or that. What's more important is the solid bridges between nations and peoples. As long as the foundation is strong, offenses can be forgiven although maybe not forgotten. We still remember the TCG Muavenet Warship that was "accidentally" hit by 4 cruise missiles lauched from USS Saratoga during a "friendly exercise". It was a betrayal from an ally and a clear punishment from Washington to Ankara for refusing to obey their commands. Such 'strong arm' politics have often been favored by DC when dealing with Ankara and it's a HUGE error in judgment. Turks historically don't respond well to threats and insults. You can keep them in check by force for a while but not for long. That should have been abundantly clear, as many NATO/UN commanders could testify. Such 'cowboy politics' puts a bigger wedge between the two nations than anything Erdogan could conjure up in his wildest dreams. From the Turks' perspective, it's ALWAYS Washington acting childish, greedy and aggressive. And oddly enough, it may well be. Because even with the power imbalance between the two countries, the US seems to recognize Turkey as a 'legitimate threat' to her 'global authority and interests', as is indicated by the hostility of Washington and the repeated 'political analysis' from various think-tanks portraying Turkey among the "potential rivals of the US in the 21st century". Claiming that it's all Erdogan being a dictator while Washington's hands are squeeky clean would be a naive belief. Believe you me, like her adopted predecessor Rome, the US too is anything but innocent when it comes to foreign politics.

@@islammehmeov2334strong and powerful? You guys have a literal "strongman" dictator who apparently isn't strong enough to take an insult or criticism without throwing that person in prison lmao. I've spoken to plenty of Turks who hate his regime and are literally scared to live there. You also cater to Islamic extremists while slaughtering the Kurds who simply want a place to exist after being repeatedly persecuted by you and your neighbors. Not only that, You STILL deny the Armenian genocide.
By playing both sides you have no true allies and only hold the strategic power you do have due to worming your way into the organizations (or being lucky enough to join early before it was as powerful as it is today) that run the world and by extension the politics of the strongest countries on earth.
Do you see any other country besides yours and Hungary in NATO exploiting it's rules for personal gain to the detriment of all the other member states and their generally unified foreign policies?? No.
No one in NATO would miss Turkey or Hungary under their current leadership and if either faced true military danger then I doubt the list of countries willing to help would be long. Your military may look adequate on paper but it has next to zero practical experience and has failed to eliminate your Kurd problem. I say this despite the multiple comments I've seen claiming Turkey has the 2nd strongest military in NATO and I have to say that is absolutely not true. That spot would still belong to the UK, France, Poland, Finland, Sweden, eventually Ukraine etc.
So we got an undeserved sense of pride, obsession with being "strong", believing you're smarter because your leader plays both sides, and an inflated ego regarding your military. Yep, that definitely sounds like Erdogan has passed on his characteristics to some of his people lol
Do yourself a favor and free all of your countrymen who are now political prisoners under Erdogan in your country and remove that old pathetic idiot dictator of yours before you (via civil war) or another country has to do it for you down the road. A dictator with Erdogans characteristics AND the regime he built (that will still exist past his death unless something changes) never ends well for the country or people they rule.
Frankly, I'd rather have Kurd in NATO any day of the week. Amazing fighters with a proven record, good sense of community and equality, welcoming to outsiders, knows how it feels to be persecuted relentlessly yet preserves, destroys Islamic extremists. Better qualities than Hungary and Turkey right now combined tbh

There is no power in Anatolia that has endured balancing between West and East, the time will come for Turkey's fall and it will be sufferable as it will bring both the West and the East to squeeze it, for it is in neither's interests to have a strong middle power who would play them one against the other. This has been the rule of history in Anatolia, whether it was the Ottomans (Entente powers from the West in the form of French and British troops and the East by Russian troops) Byzantium (attacked by Venice's Catholics from the West and the Seljuks from the East), the Armenians (Romans from the West and Persians from the East) or the Hittites (Greeks from the West and Persians from the East). Unfortunately, there comes a limit as to how long the West and the East would tolerate an Anatolian power's ''both-side'' playing game.

I’ve been wondering how long it would be before this video came along. As a viewer of this channel since day one, I’ve noticed one name consistently coming up in nearly every video produced: Turkey. If it’s an episode to do with North or East Africa, the Middle East, Southern or Eastern Europe, the EU or NATO, and even the Far East from as far away as China, Turkey plays a role in all of it. Be it diplomatic, military, or foreign investment, Turkey as a nation has vested interest in everything that goes on anywhere in the world. More so than any other single nation, save for the US, Turkey is bound to play some role in the political games of other nations. And to be honest, it’s kind of a scary thought. But considering I’m an American, it’s also laughably ironic just saying that.

The term "deep state" actually comes from Turkey, when in 1996, a car crash in Susurluk, Turkey, revealed something strange about the passengers: what were a police chief, a member of parliament, a beauty queen, and the leading drug-trafficking contract killer in Turkey (Grey Wolves member Abdullah Catli), doing together in that car?
Thus Turkish political analysts had to offer up the explanation to the public, that there exists a "deeper state" than the public one.

Turkey's economy, eternally in a sorry state, convinced my husband Turkey will play no role in this conflict. I remember telling him, that not only was he wrong, but that Turkey will actually have most to gain from this conflict between the so called "Rotting West" and "Communist East". Turkey is not secular. Turkish secularism is not a Western one. Turkish secularism is a form of state-conform religious tolerance. Turkey's highest budget ministry is the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Diyanet, that controls religion both in Turkey and in the Turkish diaspora. Turkey is an exporter of Islam in the West and a danger to Western civilization. If you think they are doing something good by supporting Ukraine, you are a fool. They are happy Christian civilization is dying and at each other's throat (between Catholics and Orthodox, Western Europe against Eastern Europe, Rome against Constantinople) as has been the case for centuries. It is the reason why the Turks are successful, because they play us, Christians against one another and thus ruled for 600 years over European lands...that is until the Entente Powers of WW1 was created, an alliance between Western Europe (France, Britain) and Eastern Europe (Russia) that brought the end of the Caliphate in 1918....yet that didn't last long, as the moment Russia turned Red, the old dividing line between Western and Eastern Europe was reestablished and the Turks launched their ''war of independence'' which was nothing else than ridding themselves of any historical justice being restored for the Christian genocide against the Greeks and Armenians, the true owners of Anatolia.

Few points to add to Simons mentioning of Greece and EU membership.
While Greece and Turkish Republic are rivals due to territorial disputes and Cyprus issue, they are also allies in natural disasters and against 3rd party interests, until recently at least.
Both nations made a joined application for NATO and EU membership was also planned to be a joined application as well. The coup at the time broke the Athen's trust and their reaction was a hastened solo application for EU membership, which was rather swiftly accepted.
A decade after said Coup, Turkish membership of EU was in question again and has been a political tool to garner votes in Turkey for decades now. However the second Coup and territorial disputes with Greece, on top of the Cyprus issue drove a wedge between the two nations.
I wont go into Cyprus issue here as it is not mentioned in the video.
But EU membership efforts of Turkey was not unanimously denied by the council as Simons ''Shelved for human rights concerns'' may imply you to believe.
Firstly, our ancient rival Greece has been one of our greatest supporters for EU membership since it would quite literally solve every single problem between the two countries.
The only nation that Vetoed the Turkish application was France.
France did *not* demand Turkish forces to leave Cyprus, an EU member state, which would've been logical.
France did *not* demand anything related to Kurds, Israel or Libya. Latter of which they have no leg to stand on.
France demanded Turkey to accept Armenian Genocide and stated it would not pull its Veto unless done so. Erdogan refused and only *then* the EU application was shelved for both sides.

The true reason and not the BS excuse is that Turkey is too big of a country to be a EU member which would rival French and German influences on the union by its own rules, a big culturally muslim country at that. Both Sarkozy and Merkel at least openly said that they wouldn't let us be members instead of stringing us along with promises. also the Cyprus thing is another huge blunder by them. They let a country that is in conflict into the union which is a direct violation of their laws and now they have to contend with Greek Cypriots vetoing decisions to advance their own interests which they have every right to since that's the right the union gives them and are not to be blamed for.

Erdoğan is famous for saying "You lose Istanbul (the powerful Mayorship) and you lose Türkiye. 4 years ago the AK party lost control of Ankara and İstanbul with big wins by the CHP. They lost Istanbul by 800k votes, but that was nothing. The mayoral elections were held again this year and the CHP won in Istanbul by more than 2 million votes and there was also a huge increase in votes for the CHP mayor in Ankara. The three biggest cities, Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir are all in CHP hands now. Erdoğans and the AKP days are numbered. The next President will likely be the supremely popular and secular Ekrem İmamoğlu, the present mayor of Istanbul.

What you must understand is that Turkey is the biggest shark at the region. There are no countries at Balkans or Middle East that can beat Turkey militarily. On the contrary, Turkey can make military operations inside each of its neighbors territories easily (like they do at Iraq and Syria right now). Even Russia (which is not a neighbor) will never attack a NATO country and has huge economic interests inside Turkey so it is forced to be somewhat friendly. This makes the continuation of an independant foreign policy very easy.

Turkey can increase its influence in Central Asia and tighten its relations with China. That's why Turkey is pressuring Armenia. Azerbaijan is seen as the gateway to Central Asia. The new gas agreement with Turkmenistan is important. In other words, the pressure on Armenia is not historical, the purpose is different. Erdogan started to give more importance to the organization of Turkic states. Turkic states in Central Asia are starting new language reforms. Kazakhstan will switch to an alphabet identical to Turkish. It started to make more sense for Erdoğan to turn his attention to the Turkic states instead of dreaming of the Ottoman Empire. He is dealing with the PKK in Syria and Iraq, other than that, I don't think he has much interest anymore. He makes statements about Palestine because of his sympathy for the Muslim Brotherhood, but Turkey, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have high commercial relations with Israel.

You support using veto power in NATO to get what they want, keeping well-intentioned countries like Sweden and Finland from joining? Do you support the denial of the Armenian gen*cide? Do you think it is right for Turkey to support Iran? A country that is known for brutal implementation of Sharia law and human-rights violations, not to mention the support of the war on Ukraine? Also, please don't generalize the west. I would love for us Scandinavians to not need the support of the US, as they also use abhorrent and egotistical tactics. Especially republicans like Trump. Nobody forced turkey to invade Rojava and cause death and destruction just so they can be happy the Kurds couldn't secure their homelands and live in peace. Hatred for Kurds means instead of a booming economic zone to feed off from, they have a warzone to the south. When ISIS had the entire boarder they never once had a desire to invade, but the moment Kurds regained their freedoms the threats of invasion has not stopped since. That's when the economy of Turkey took a turn. Let that sink in and you people can be satisfied of yourselves. It isn't lost on Ankara that the Russian Empire is in a similar stage in its decline as the Ottoman Empire was when the European powers started to develop designs to carve it up. As the Kremlin becomes unable to project power in the Caucuses and Central Asia, someone is gonna have to fill that void. Ankara is already moving into these areas politically and militarily. Even if their leaders were not motivated by ambition, the Turks would be forced to assert themselves for their own security before Tehran and Beijing fill the vacuum themselves. These Moscow "allies" (Turkey, Iran, China) are basically just rooting for their friend to fall right on his face so they can benefit. At best, China in particular, is only interested in Russia falling in the most gradual and manageable way possible to make the transition of taking over Moscow's sphere of influence as smooth as possible. I am no expert, just openly curious. I can only compare to my own USA background and the merit, reverence we place on men like Washington, Jefferson, and beyond into the modern day. Are these men whose deeds will survive the ages, like the ancients across the globe? Questions only, NOT judgements.

17:30 "ohh despite the word the term genocide originated blabla..." that doesn't prove anything. It's simple logic: for example, if I make up a word for blaming you for a horrific crime that you haven't committed, would that make you a suspect automatically? No it wouldn't. Let's test it. Here, "gobizubi" I said it, that's the legal term that proves your ancestors killed 5 billion eskimos who were ancient first human beings.

They think to understand what's going on Türkiye, why do they feel the need to make a biased absolutely uncorrect so called informational video based on what? Even they are not living in Türkiye.
For example, if i make a video about this person, how accurate can i be even i did see a lot of video's of him??? NONE
To make an accurate and thrustful video, i almost have to live with him to understand.
Yes you my friend, stop making this kind of video's or at least learn how to make nuanciation's.
