Great job 👍 hi from southern New Zealand 👋 great results getting honey for yourselves and to sell, fantastic 😃 something I noticed you said, the honey wasn't ready unless it's capped, that's a good general rule of thumb but like a lot of things in beekeeping not always true😅, sometimes the bee's just won't cap some honey, but it doesn't mean it's unextractable. The simple way to be certain is If you have a refractometer you can test the moisture content, they're about $20 USD to buy, and it's a great tool. I've seen uncapped honey at 16% and capped honey at 25%😂 North American beekeeping TH-camrs Bob binnie and kamon Reynolds have great TH-cam tutorials about using refractometers if you'd like to learn more. Great video and congratulations👋
Thanks for the tip! I’ve used one in the past, last year our moisture content was 16%. I’ve also heard you can tilt the frame on its side and give it a little shake to see if the honey comes out. This year was easy though, because all the frames we took where like 95% capped😊🤙🏽
we have reused some in the past so hopefully we've washed out a bunch of microplastics 🥴 but we will definitely use cheesecloth down the line. We also used the metal two stack strainer this year and that worked well :)
Congratulations, a great 4th year start! The cough syrup taste come from Pin Cherry "Prunus pensylvanica" trees. The Smith Brothers used it in their cherry cough syrup. Get yourselves some bee escapes. Really simplifies the super removals. The Mann Lake HD-105 is nice because you can thumb tack it on your existing inner covers. A Refractometer is darn useful to figure out you honey moisture. The cells do not have to be capped. Your medium wonkey comb frames? Scrap them down and and rewax. Finally, look to commercial beekeepers for information. Bob Binnie is one of the best hands down. Ian Steppler a northern beekeeper and Kamon Reynolds. Hope these tips help. Enjoy the adventure!
Thanks so much, those were all such great recommendations. We've used our mentors refractometer in the past and it was so helpful to know the real numbers. Really appreciate the support!
yes, they use it for everything, but only certain sections. You can also keep the queen from an entire box, where the bees can just fill the comb with honey and that's what we harvest. No baby bees in your honey that way :)
6:56 she says "cough syrup" 7:02 he says yeah "a coffee taste to it" the look on her face ... she considered calling him out and let it go. So nice of her 😂 And it keeps going ... her sweet to his buttery ... his floral, her I don't think it's that floral, it kinda tastes like wax 😂
@@hancockhaleI love honey . These are genuine questions. How much honey do the bees require for themselves? How much honey do u leave for the bees ? I learnt from a short of urs that a bee hive takes 50 days max to fill the hive , can the size of a hive be increased ?
Often during winter their hive size will decrease, but we always leave them 10-20 packed frames and then just take the extra. They will keep making it, but when cold weather and rain come they can’t get out as much.

Amazing! thanks for sharing your experience. Do you have any problem with hornets? here in France we have Vespa Velutina from Asia, it causes a lot of trouble.
Glad I could share! No hornet issues here fortunately! We will be in France in the Brittany region come January and February and hope to see some hives while we are there😊
@@hancockhaleenvy you Brittany and Normandy. My flight just got in an hour ago but we didn't go north. Next time! Im from Canada and we are not permitted to bring back butter from B&N. Dang. It would be great with your honey.
Now I understand why plants are considered helpless without bees. Forty eight days = 14 million flowers seeded. Human couldn't have possibly done that by themselves without spending money

This deserves more views
Ahh thanks, I hope more people can enjoy it :)
@@hancockhale so if im from New Zealand does that mean its nearly 10PM for you?
Been all over the South Island! Love it there! I think you are almost a day ahead of us 🤯
@@hancockhale ye its Friday here
Nature’s gold! Love it!
delicious and very sweet :)
Technically gold is nature's gold. Lol
Selling your honey with a honeycomb inside is an excellent idea!
Thanks! We love how cute it looks😊
This is super cool only thing is paint strainers leach micro plastics like you wouldn’t believe. Please use a cheese cloth

thanks so much! Really appreciate it :)
Awesome job guys keep it up
thanks, they are keeping us busy :)
Question...so the bees use the honeycomb to both lay eggs and nurse new bees as well as use some of the honeycomb to make honey? I'm so confused lol

@hancockhale Well I learned something new! Thanks for the reply! I am loving your channel!!

Great vid you guys, very informative ❤
thanks, glad you got something from it 😊
Can you do a video on mite and moth infestation and clean up, if you have ever had to do that?
Doing mite treatment in 2 weeks. I did link the mite treatment product we use in one of my most recent shorts😊
What are the names of all the other bees?

My sister uses honey to heal open wounds if her horses get injured.
I wish i had this in Pakistan currently my my thorte is irritated so i would love ro et that rn
Local honey can really help a sore throat 😊

An insane amount of money would be spent, while bees do it for free😊
Did anyone else click on this video thinking the thumbnail was of a jar of piss?
Now that’d be an interesting story to tell!
