I remember years ago when I first got into the hobby, I was in the store flipping through the index astartes books to pick my chapter. I chose raven guard, because I couldn’t paint for crap. Today I still proudly represent the XIX legion, and I still can’t paint
Ah, yes. My process of elimination came in steps. 1) I didn’t want to play Ultramarines. 2) Take off all the flashier chapters. White Scars, Space Wolves, Imperial Fists, Blood Angels and Salamanders. 3) It all comes down to Dark Angels (another one of my favourite chapters), Iron Hands and Raven Guard. I grew up playing stealth games, so guess which one I picked.
Pete The Wargamer consider it repayment for inspiring my Kill Team. The Van Saar to Eversor conversion. I even have Goliath Ogryns now. The whole team was a blast to assemble, paint and play.
You literally gave your space marine a haircut and I think that's amazing. He looks superb and I really like the format of this video. Please do Salamanders!!
Another great conversion Pete! The instruction and humor is perfect. I like the 5 Ways to Convert series as you are making some very interesting models and I am looking forward to your next tutorial. By the way, the painting on the figure is terrific.
I'm actually toying with the idea of loyalist chapters produced with traitor geneseed, kind of like how Sons of the Phoenix are hinted at being made with Emperors Children gene-seed on the sly. So these might find their way in some way!
I'd argue the Beakie helmet gives the Raven Guard a lot less readable expression than if they had the standard firstborn Vox Grill and that really adds to the terror of having to face them in combat. Instead of a berserker rage that bubbles to the surface and explodes violently, the Raven Guard are all about measured ill intent and tranquil fury, which the Beakie helmet would achieve perfectly.
Would love to see you do some stuff on Black Templars, how to spice up normal marines to look more like a Black Templar would! Great video, have not regretted subin!
Some good tip, thanks. I have a homebrew chapter called the Shanobi Ravens, which contains Raven guard & Dark angel Ravenwing models. Basically specialist in scouting & Guerrilla warfare, infiltrating behind enemy lines & hitting high value targets or marking targets for orbital bombardment.
Have a Space Marine army, and I use the Beakies as my Veterans, and Sergeants, because you'd have to have been around a while to earn those titles, and the Beak Helms are older gear in my head canon.
What are Raven Guars but miss understood super human teenagers. Reminds me of my high school yrs. Wearing black all the time, long grunge hair, listening to The Cure while smoking cigarettes and drinking beer someones older sister bought for us, talking about Edgar Allan Poe. Good times.
Pete The Wargamer oh, my boy. You are clearly a misguided youth and this is only just a phase? Why can't you be more like Guy from Midwinter minis? He seems nice and respects his parents. No go outside with your skateboard and don't hurt yourself. And be back by dinner. Your mother is making meatloaf
It would be awesome to convert Agrax Agatone into Kill Team as a Terminator. His base 40mm so I guess he can't easily fit as Intercessor. His Thunder Hammer is already an option for the terminator, he is just missing the shield
You should do a video on sons of the Phoenix. I'd love to see you take on candles and other gothic themed conversions. Everyone loves the sons of Fulg..... I mean Dorn. We're definintly the sons of Dorn.... Let's fortify our positions brothers?... Build a wall?....
What's that? We have a phoenix in our name and that despicable traitor Fulgrim was known as the Palatine Phoenix? Oh total coincidence, that and the purple armour and the wings in our iconography..
nice ideas there, I still need to find some feathers for my Raven Guard-Deathwatch Captain, however I did use several of the bird/skulls. Additional ideas I found quit fitting are bits from the Ravenwing-Box. My captain recieved a 'raven-hammer' and the corax-style helmet included with some additional details (plating). Also I used a plasma-pistol with some wing-iconography from Blood Angels-sets and several wings to glue to the jump-pack, legs and co by cutting aquila-symbols from the vehicle-sprues. Base modell was the already dynamic Deathwatch Captain Artemis with a new head and a mono-jumppack from the sanguinary guard (without wings for tactical reasons ;) )
Fun fact, I did the Emo hair technique, but I ran out of Reivers bodies... so they’re not just sitting in a bag until my next pay check... also this video has really helped me, personally I have been pushed away from marines into the Guard as I like the ability to make my regiments whatever I want via third party bits, but because of your videos I’ve begun to make a home brew raven guard successor chapter, thanks so much.
Raven Guard aren't really stealthy in the sense you imply (i.e. by using silencers or such). They are stealthy on the tactical scale. They wait in silence not showing their numbers to the enemy and once the time is right they make deadly drop pod assaults to surprise the enemy.

Even your profile pic screams Raven Guard 😂
I'd love to see a '5 ways to convert carcharadons ' video

"ITS NOT A PHASE, DAD" - Chapter Master Shrike

Never before have I been so offended by something I 100% agree with!!
But then they realise their dad was the same 👀
"I know, son, I know" -- Corvus Corax
"My chemical Corvax" had me in tears
They collabed with konrad to release "papa" before the heresy...
From the most heavily decimated and aggrieved legion in the heresy, to boy-band misfit teens joke material, ouch. no wonder Corax left.
I heard someone stole his eyeliner
They’re still the kindest legion, tho. All the humanitarianism of the salamanders with far less burning people alive
I feel targeted by the commentary of this video.
David you are right, it was you that I had in mind when I was writing that script, thank you for being my muse.
Pete The Wargamer consider it repayment for inspiring my Kill Team. The Van Saar to Eversor conversion. I even have Goliath Ogryns now.
The whole team was a blast to assemble, paint and play.
There is such a level of insanity to "silencing" a weapon as powerful and loud as a bolter.
I love it!

I probably should do shouldn't I?

Thanks! I'm having great fun producing these videos so expect to see more 😀
Long live CORAX !! Long last the beak helms! Very good video! The best you have ever made. Well because it’s about the best Chapter ever
Sorry you must be mistaken, this video was about Raven Guard, not Salamanders....
Came for Space Marine content, stayed and liked for the jokes. Spot-on. ;)
That bumper books of jokes paid off then 😉
Could you try that for the night lords and word bearers

I'd love a tutorial to see how you roughed up that model at the end.
All those scratches, battle damage, wear and tear look amazing.
It is a pity that you didn’t do a painting tutorial because the miniature looks so good! Awesome job
Never say never! Although, I did just say it twice.. man, I'm such a hypocrite.

Maybe...maybe...
Genuinely enjoying the more humorous approach, love your stuff your tutorials are invaluable, keep it up mate!
I started raven guard because my birthday is the 19th... Proudly
Brilliant model!
I definitely prefer the silent, gritty, almost grungy element of the RG compared to the long black hair sad boy element of it, great work though

Love to see 5 ways to do imperial fists also a fan of the death korps of krieg so any thing there would be cool too.
As soon as I figure out how to make a cement mixer out of spare bits, I'll be right on those Imperial Fists 😜
How about a how to paint raven guard tutorial?
The Hair style reminds me of Gary Oldham from 5th Element 😂
I play a lot of ultramarines and would love tbh to see 5 ways to convert ultramarines to prevent my guys from all looking really bland
You dare insult the power of the beaky helm?
I saved a bunch of the new Horus heresy beakie helms for my soon to be built and painted Raven guard.
Would love to see a video on how to convert Stormcast Eternals to Space Mariens
Wait? They're not the same thing 😉
I think I’m gonna go listen to My Chemical Romance now.
Don't forget the eyeliner
Great video, would love to see how these are painted🤞
that is AWESOME and way cheaper than forge world kits
Black templars are always interesting with cloaks and head swaps, plus fancy swords aren't anything to bawk at either
Plus if you ever need anything towing, they always have a chain handy...
Pete the Wargamer... nevermore...
A silencer? On a gun what shoots a 40mm micro warhead! Why not, it 40k!

New to the hobby, how can I get beaky helmets outside of a bits box?
Bitz websites will sell them off individually, and sometimes joblots of 20 or 30 come up on eBay.
I do kinda wish the ravenguard got some unique models

Named after their dad! Corvus Corax! Great video. Love it

That color scheme is amazing, I know the video is quite old but can you remember how you managed it?
How do you paint that amazing black armor?
It was basically Vallejos Black Grey mixed with progressively more White. But I should probably do a video on it 😉
Might use these ideas for the Riever Sergeant I'm about to build
Damn we have it easy now lol forge world sells raven guard helmets and shoulder pads and games workshop sells a raven guard primaris upgrade kit.
Oh no Pete. You said the word gun. I’m afraid we will have to take away your adds. Tut tut tut.
Yaaasss. Conviction that beaky helms suck. Thank you.
It annoys me theres both a Raven Guard and a Ravenwing and they're unrelated
That paintjob is amazing I havnt seen a nicer black armor any chance of a video on it

man i wanna see a painting tutorial for this. i love the grim dark look
could you do dark angels?
That's a good idea actually, I'll keep them in mind 😀
Hair is key! Doesn't have to be emo hair tho, heavy metal mop works even better 8)
I'm starting a Storm Wardens space marine army. Any recommendations for colour scheme?
Suppressors don't have a hole in the end of the cylinder. You made an extended barrel with a muzzle brake built in.
Yeh, but tacticool. TACTICOOOOOOOL
that's clearly not a raven guard, I can see him.
For all thepeople qho didnt know bnb black is not stealthiest colour it would a blackish blue or dark grey dark green or brown
Instead of the plastic rod i use plastic coffee stirrs
Amazing!
