+1 for Unmatched. I’m like Zee, I like to have Batman be Batman, using his gadgets and feeling like Batman, not running around with a Rick and Morty portal gun with Rose from Golden Girls.
Really like the idea for this series; I hope it continues :). I just picked up Unmatched, mostly due to the art, but have plans on grabbing FunkoVerse as a gift for my cousin who collects the pops when next we meet! Very glad both these games exist and while I assume my personal preference will lie with Unmatched I think FunkoVerse is uniquely positioned to get more people into the hobby :)
FunkoVerse seems to be a silly, high-energy game that is trying to highlight big swings and humor (silly teams and combining characters with silly weapons,) to create emotional response, where Unmatched highlights tension between play styles and hand management that feels more like a hunt, to create emotional response that comes from relieving that tension.
My thoughts while watching this video: 1. That tattoo sleeve looks awesome! 2. I bet I could pull that off 3. I definetly could NOT pull that off 4. Stop it brain and just listen to the guys talk 5. Start over at step 1.
I think at this point we can say that DT has moving from my beloved and treasured Tom, Sam, Zee show to an absolutely awesome thing that is a show with Tom, Zee, Roy and Mike*. I'm surprised and impressed both by how good it is now and... how it's impossible to compare to the old ways, as the mixture is just so different. Great job, everyone! *ordered just as the original trip by the time they joined the podcast/videos.
Unmatched! For the art. And expansions. Bruce Lee. Then Cobble and Fog set which includes Invisible Man, Sherlock, Jekyll & Hyde and Dracula. Prior to this is Ingen vs Rators and rumours of Buffy towards end of the year. Plus it packs small. I got 6 characters in baggies that fit inside the bigfoot box. Easy to carry. Lots of choice.
Both great games. I like the concept of Unmatched more than the actual gameplay. Whereas I liked the gameplay in Funkoverse more than the concept. Unmatched had less decision points than I thought the cards would provide which took the shine off for us, but both are great fun.
Unmatched you can lose due to not having cards at the right time, Funkoverse because of dice rolls. For some reason losing to dice feels better than losing to not drawing the right cards as at least you have a chance. Without the right cards, you are left high and dry.
Great idea for a show, it's good hearing you bring different opinions about a specific game/games, and you can go a bit more in depth than when someone mentions the game in a top 10 for example.
I’m Team Funkoverse! Although not overly excited about the coming IPs, except Golden Girls 2, and the supposed Back To The Future, which surprises me given they already have Rick & Marty. Would live to see Avengers and Ghostbusters...

It's a tie for me. Unmatched has carry over from a game I'm a huge fan of, but Funkoverse is ridiculously fun and I like that it isn't *just* a skirmish game, there's more to it. Both are solid 7-8/10s
Really like the Re-roll concept. If you continue with VS style matchups do Dinosaur Island vs Dinogenics next. I can see this working with a single game with polarizing opinions and a lot of buzz (like games with app elements). Keep up the great work and the fresh ideas!
I have yet to play either game, but I’m drawn more towards Unmatched because of the minis and their proportionally sized heads. I too enjoy this type of video. Hope to see more of them.
Funkoverse can have endless loops where someone knocks you out then you spend your entire turn to stand up and next turn that person knocks you out again. Cool down mechanism is cool and all, but I really like the card play in Unmatched. Imho unmatched is the better game.
I enjoy Funkoverse. I like the Idea of mixing Funko Pops and using them in a game setting. The Game has a lot of luck on the dice roll. It also allows for getting Gems and controlling area. I have not had a chance to play unmatched, I have heard mixed things of the game so im not sure if I'll jump into that game at this time.
One thing I wish someone talked about more was how well the team vs. team option works in each of these. We found the Unmatched iteration of that very dull. I haven't tried the Funkoverse one yet.

I'd love if they could release some soloable AI card driven bosses to Funkoverse. They're going to do new game modes after all, can't see why this can't happen.

definitely want to pick up the 1800s style UNmatched when available. Like Zee says, the direction they are going with the IP is really interesting rather than rehashing Batman etc.
I own both. Because of Mike I picked up Unmatched at Game Preserve, lol. I agree with Mike too. I will probably get way more Funkoverse expansion sets over Unmatched, being more choose-y with new Unmatched IP sets and grabbing ones that “speaks” to me. Now I know both publishers picked up Jurassic Park for their games so regarding IP I’ll pick both up for both games. This was a really fun first video. Very much dig it. I think you could still use the TV on the wall to help show off components and boards and what not, like done for the top 10. I think utilizing that will help the audience, visually, more. Great video and discussion!
I haven’t played either, but to me Unmatched looks more like a Jerry Bruckheimer movie whilst Funkoverse looks like a cartoon. Based on what I’ve seen and heard the gameplay seems to hold up to this, and as such I’m far more interested in the silliness of the Funkoverse games, but can equally see the appeal of Unmatched.
I think You forgot to say one about them. Funko verse is more about going for the points and objective and not for direct combat because of the dice roll which makes combat really hard. Unmatched is more about direct combat and defeating the other character in order to win. This is the main difference between them.
I've only played Unmatched, Funko looks fun and I'd like to try them. I like the characters for Unmatched so far (I have the Bruce Lee and Robin Hood/Bigfoot expansions) and I'm looking forward to future installments like the Jurassic Park set.

Great new concept for a new series. But the intro music is weird. Sounds like somebody took the Mission Impossible theme and altered it with a software to make it unenforceable by license.
Just got myself 7 sets for funkoverse, they were all very cheap and I only paid full price for 2 sets. I love them! They look great in the boxs with my collection and the game is just pure fun! Haven't played Unmatched but I don't regret getting funkoverse at all!
I've been pleasently surprised with the Funko game. It's just strategic enough but is still very simple to teach people. Plus they may play just because Batman or whoever is in it. But I still want to play unmatched, but the level of difficulty in teaching it to new people combined with the it being a little ugly makes me hesitant. But man do I want to play as big foot.
I feel that the Funko POP figures should have been smaller (like their keychain or advent calendar sized ones). Also, I don't find the modes in that game very interesting (capture the flag/take down opponent/etc.). Unsettled also has cons though. The abstract board and battle-to-the-death are drawbacks. If they had mini-scenarios with accompanying tiles (like Vampire: the Masquerade - Chapters board game on Kickstarter right now) then I'd be all over these games.

I find the Funkoverse aesthetic to definitely a turn off to me personally. Not that I think it's art style is *bad*, or anything is explicitly wrong with it, but the style of Unmatched with it's minis and awesome card art really does seem to evoke a greater feeling of the theme, like these mythical characters are really going toe-to-toe. This is even with the abstraction of the board and cards to me. Whereas the Funko-pop style really jumps off the board in a way that seems to distract from the imagined scenario you're playing with. This is of course separate from any gameplay considerations. It's only particularly notable in this case since a broad appeal of both of these games is pitting such a variety of characters against each other. With Funkoverse the Pop figure itself is really the only thing you have to go on to give you that feeling, and I don't think they do the best job of that.
I've got both with all expansions (and plan to keep both) and greatly prefer unmatched. When my brother came in for Christmas we started with funkoverse, then went to unmatched... I never got him to play another game of funkoverse after unmatched, but we played unmatched about 20 times. Something that wasn't touched on in this to consider is also storage... Those funkopop, though smaller than normal funkopops, take up a lot of space. Without finding an alternate storage solution, the current products alone can fill up a whole shelf. Another issue not mentioned that is in favor of funkoverse is that it has multiple scenarios/play styles where as unmatched is just combat. Fun-wise for me though, card combat easily trumps a small selection of abilities with dice rolls. (also totally agree with zee's comments about theme. I like the gag nature of funkoverse, but unmatched's selection is so much more appealing... And stylish/stylized too.)
Nice new line of episodes. Please keep them coming. I like how Tom is the “I just like this style so I really like it” and Roy is a more specific version of Tom. While Zee and Mike is supported with reasons and bring out more aspects for consideration. Look forward to more of these. I find the camera setup kind of weird because the first shot is four guys staring at you lol. I enjoy the setup in live play through, where I see you guys are in a circle playing and viewers at 1 side of the table, and in this case, discussing. This camera angle looks you are squeezed together and Tom is pushed back because of the way the table corner at. Maybe this is already a better solution hosting all 4 of you. Just saying.
I love HeroClix too, and because I have a nice collection of them already it makes me less interested in getting games like these and Marvel Crisis Protocol.
Unmatched for me, the IPs are much more interesting than the Funkoverse ones, that bar Golden Girls have been used time and time again. Also I kind of see Funkoverse as the poor mans Arcadia Quest style game, whilst Unmatched gameplay is really tactical and tense. My thoughts rounded up being I could get very similar gameplay and IPs as Funkoverse in many other games where as not so much with Unmatched.

Funkoverse may have Batman, but Unmatched has Bruce Lee, so I went with Unmatched so I can play with the martial art legend. It's also a great game.

Barely gonna try Funkoverse ordered the Rick & Morty one from HotTopic just waiting for it to come in. I never heard of unmatched until now.

The Funko games are merchandising. They are simply repurposed (slightly smaller) toys.
