This song makes me think that my calm life, one that many would love to be having, is not exactly what I would want, all the boring routine... All the wasted time I try to convince myself it's just quality time I should be grateful for... And yet, still I'm so afraid of bringing my ideas to reality and getting into the unknown... This is how deep this song makes me feel.

Naw, I like the studio version better. I bet AFs shows are great when you are in the crowd but if we go solely on the music I prefer the cleaner more powerful vocals of the studio version. I think it's the other way around btw. Most people won't admit when they like a studio version better than a live version, because it makes them seem less "legit" fans if they do. Running around like I’m Bryan Robson playing for England.
Flicking cards in the playground, trying to win more and more. Selling back corona bottles
"I want a daughter while I’m still young. I wanna hold her hand and show her the beauty before all the damage is done... if thats too much to ask, then send me a perfect son."
This line always breaks my heart :/
This song makes me think that my calm life, one that many would love to be having, is not exactly what I would want, all the boring routine... All the wasted time I try to convince myself it's just quality time I should be grateful for... And yet, still I'm so afraid of bringing my ideas to reality and getting into the unknown... This is how deep this song makes me feel.
Still, all these years later, my favorite song of theirs. Musically maybe not the most complex, but the lyric writing is just superb. It's been going through my head so much lately, that line about the walls and the houses we built in the 70s finally falling. Just sublime.
I didn't know the Hamburgler was a musician. Pretty Cool.
I miss you guys so much. Please drop a new album soon.
Diego Guerrero careful what you wish for
You've made me cry several times 😭. Tears of joy and sorrow at the same time. Thank you for your beautiful music ❤️.
In the suburbs I
I learned to drive
And you told me we'd never survive
Grab your mother's keys we're leavin'
You always seemed so sure
That one day we'd be fighting
In a suburban war
Your part of town against mine
I saw you standing on the opposite shore
But by the time the first bombs fell
We were already bored
We were already, already bored
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm movin' past the feeling
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm movin' past the feeling again
Kids wanna be so hard
But in my dreams we're still screamin' and runnin' through the yard
And all of the walls that they built in the seventies finally fall
And all of the houses they built in the seventies finally fall
Meant nothin' at all
Meant nothin' at all
It meant nothin
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm movin' past the feeling
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm movin' past the feeling and into the night
So can you understand?
Why I want a daughter while I'm still young
I wanna hold her hand
And show her some beauty
Before all this damage is done
But if it's too much to ask, it's too much to ask
Then send me a son
Under the overpass
In the parking lot we're still waiting
It's already past
So move your feet from hot pavement and into the grass
Cause it's already past
It's already, already past
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm movin' past the feeling
Sometimes I can't believe it
I'm movin' past the feeling again
I'm movin' past the feeling
I'm movin' past the feeling
In my dreams we're still screamin'
We're still screamin'
We're still screamin'
'Send me a *perfect* son'
Send me a perfect son
Sublime ❤️

Ah, the imagery that this song stirs! How many memories will this spark in how many people? And just think...it's the kickoff song of a whole concept album dedicated to the suburbs. A masterwork.
This song has me so happy . What truly fortunate and gifted artists.
One of the most wonderful songs of all times.
This song is so deeply nostalgic for me. Always will be. Can't believe it's been almost a decade since it first came out.
These guys make me look for modern music with another eyes! So brilliant!

peace and love to all!
10 years ago I listened to this song and I loved the way they decided to make it, and today I still like it, it is one of the best songs for me.
One Of My Absolute Favorite Songs Of All Time. So Beautiful- So Melancholy. Don’t Listen To Anyone, Don’t Let Anyone Bring You Down. Follow Your Dreams & Achieve Them! Before You Grow Too Old, & Move Past Those Old Feelings. Those Dreams Will Continue Screaming
Never get tired of this song or the whole album.
Every time I wash the dishes in the suburban home I live in at the moment hahahaha
This is the best record of all time by such an underrated band! They are superb and this album is amazing! The lyrics and tune to this song make me so emotional and it’s my favourite song and I never tire of listening to it! It’s remarkable!
God only knows how much I Love this song. Thanks again and again, Arcade fire!
just heard this song for the first time yesterday... my god the tears.. amazing song
Desde ese día es tu canción más..
Hands down my favorite existential anthem
What are your others?
Am I the only one who prefers this version over the studio one?
It's definitely more raw, but without having a shitty mix like most live recordings do.
This song is better live.
Any way, just my two cents.....
This is more dreamy.
I prefer Mr.Little Jeans version :)
This is a masterpiece. Every detail is magnificent.
Adding a comment for the big man to realize I am still listening and loving it.
In the suburbs, I
I learned to drive
And you told me I’d never survive
Grab your mother’s keys, we’re leaving
You always seemed so sure
That one day we’d fight in
In a suburban war
You put it down against mine
I saw you standing on the opposite shore
Nobody down, the first bombs fell
We were already bored
We were already, already bored
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m moving past the feeling
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m moving past the feeling again
The kids won’t be so hard
In my dreams we’re still screaming
Running through the yard
And all the walls that they built in the 70s finally fall
And all of the houses they built in the 70s finally fall
It meant nothing at all
It meant nothing at all
It meant nothing
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m moving past the feeling
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m moving past the feeling into the night
I just can’t understand
How I want a daughter while I’m still young
I want to hold her hand
Show her some beauty
Before this damage is done
But if it’s too much to ask
If it’s too much to ask
Send me a son
Under the overpass
In the parking lot we’re still waiting
It’s already passed
So move your feet from hot pavement
And into the grass
Cause it’s already passed
It’s already already passed
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m moving past the feeling
Sometimes I can’t believe it
I’m moving past the feeling again
Shivers down the spine. Then tears. Every time. Masterpiece.
Such a well written song. Just gorgeous! Sitting in lockdown in Shanghai and this suits the mood...
Ive never been so happy to be sad listening to a song
