It was just a night of friends and acquaintances renting the rink to have some fun. I was having a HORRIBLE night in goal. During our first intermission while we were getting ready to go for round 2, one of the guys skated over and asked me how I was doing. I was pissed at myself for playing so bad...not that we were keeping score, but a goalie KNOWS! That’s our job! I told the guy I was mad because I hadn’t stopped a damn shot all night. He picked up a loose puck and put it right in my chest. “You stopped one”, he said. I played awesome the rest of the night. For what it’s worth I’m glad that guy interacted with me, and it made all the difference in the world. The way he interacted with me made all the difference in the world as well.
Goalie is as much a mental game as it is physical. I play out and in net and when i am skating out I can see when a goalie is “Broken” and know that is the time to pounce. Also the only time I can score but that’s another matter.
Goaltending is a tough job. Just make one mistake and the puck is in the net. Every other player on the team can make mistakes and it won't result in a goal.
There’s a difference between yelling at your whole team telling them to get there shit together and yelling at one guy who arguably is less at fault then the defencemen

Ovi's PPG in playoffs is huge, also he was MVP in their cup run. Ovi also played his heart out during this series, unlike a lot of other Caps players. And Samsonov was great all game, sure, but what does that add up to if you make literally the DUMBEST MISTAKE POSSIBLE TO COST THEM THE WHOLE THING? All that effort to keep in game meant jack shit. Of course Ovi would be pissed.

So I think it was Ovechkin's right to be angry at Ilya in the moment, but as a captain I think he should have said some words of support after.
