Mini-bio: My name is Brady. I'm 24 years old and am a graduate student in history. I started this channel as something fun to do while I finish my schooling. My primary area of study ranges roughly from the American Revolution through the first sixty years of the 19th century. While I am a historian (with a B.A. in Liberal Arts), I am a very new historian. I am more of a learner than a teacher, so I use the react format to do a little bit of both. Also, flags are fun, and I like them very much... and video games... and maybe some other stuff. While my videos are not all history related, this channel has a serious social studies bend to it.
Bird Note: I have a bird, his name is Peridot (Peri for short). You may see him appear in some videos and not others. While he has quickly become the channel's mascot, he only appears in videos when he feels like it. I don't force him to come on camera, he just likes being around hoomans, and I am hooman. Also, understand that birds are a lot of work, so don't go out and get one impulsively just because mine appears behaved in my videos. Bird parenting is a full-time job.

There is one youtube channel you are nvr allowed to skip the ad reads on and that's Jay Foreman. There's some hilarious ad reads on his channel and many even come close to rivalin the main channel content heh
I'd love to see more Jay Foreman from you, a suggestion though: Go from old to new in order. I think it would be the respectable thing to do to allow original creations to have a period to garner traffic naturally before others begin poaching them for reaction. This video is the newest one he made and he might still have viewers to attract for it.

Fun fact: if Spain was made of the union of Castile and Portugal rather than Castile and Aragon, it would have been a virtually perfect square.

For the colonies it depends on how they are set up, take the netherlands, where some colonies are countries in the Kingdom of the netherlands, The Netherlands is also a country in the kingdom of the Netherlands, so saying those previously mentioned colonies are colonies of the netherlands is not correct, as The netherlands and the kingdom of the netherlands are two seperate enteties.
France has not the same system, but you have terretories belonging to France, and then parts of French republic outside of Europe, so French Guyana, is a part of the French Republic, its citizens are french citizens, they vote in French elections, and are citizens of the EU, meanwhile citizens of the French Side of St.Martin are not, so France (whos mainland is not square anyway but for this example lets say it was) Would be DQed since French Guyana is very much not a square.

The rectangles in Canada are much more square but the map makes them rectangular...

So depending on the projections the canadian provinces are much square than they appear. This is using a Mercader projection which stretches them way to much.

cloinies don't really exist any more, they are from the time of empires, now the colinies have rebelled or the old emprors have created things like the common wealth. Also if you have colinies they are added to your empire not you country. for example a british coliny was India and you wouldn't call it Great Britain as before it was a coliny is was a rules by its own govment and therefore a country.
France disagrees. French Guyana and Wallis and Fortuna are parts of France.

i actually kinda doubt egypt is the squarest of the ones we've seen. both from "border straightness" and "how much of its area overlaps with its bounding square"... might be worth actually running the math on
i feel like it might've been more cote d'Ivoire or Suriname, they both fit better in the square
