    is this the same thing as external viewpoints?

    • @snaplanguage
      @snaplanguage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with that term in reading. In literature, you sometimes have a third person narrator, who's an outside viewer... in the video, we're talking about the viewpoint that the writer brings into any text, including non-literary texts.
      Thanks for watching and leaving a question! :D

    Is the author's main point and the author's point of view the same?

    • @snaplanguage
      @snaplanguage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, Johnny. Thanks for the question. These are different concepts. The main point is the "main thought" that the author wants to express. The author's point of view is how the author approaches that point--that is, positively, sarcastically, neutrally, and so on. You main want to watch our videos on the main idea and details; they may help.
      Thanks for watching!

    how does the point of view work when the author's purpose is informative

    • @snaplanguage
      @snaplanguage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and for leaving a question.
      In any field of study, there are often many ways of explaining "facts." That's why there are often competing theories about or explanations for things. As a result, even in an informative passage, writers bring in their biases and beliefs. As readers, when we detect the author's point of view, we should be aware that the information will be presented from within that point of view and perhaps leave out alternative explanations.
      I hope that answers your question. :D

      You need to be more specific about what you don't understand. If you mean the video, you should watch it again and take notes, focusing on the main points. Then it will start making more sense when you watch it yet again.
      Cheers! :D

    You use “he or she” frequently, why not use “they?” It would be less wordy and more inclusive for non-binary people viewing these videos.

    • @snaplanguage
      @snaplanguage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find it annoying, too. I wish grammarians would get over the use of "singular they" in academic English and otherwise. In more recent videos, I just use "they," and let grammar nazis deal with it
